Please see below for details on the upcoming Fly-In Event:

FLIGHT DETAILS

One of the new features introduced with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is an accurate depiction of the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) when and where they are visible in the real world. For our Fly-In this week, we’re venturing to the frigid shores of the Barents Sea in Northern Norway :norway: in search of aurora!

As always, this event is open to pilots flying on MSFS (2020) as well, and even though you won’t see the Northern Lights, you’ll still be able to enjoy Norway’s fantastic scenery.

MSFS (2020) Pilots on PC can download the .pln file here:
2025-02-21 Norway.PLN (2.6 KB)

MSFS 2024 Pilots on both PC and Xbox can import the flight plan from the new Flight Planner tool at this link.

You can find instructions on how to load a flight plan from the Flight Planner website to your in-sim EFB on your PC or Xbox console on our forums here.

We will be starting at ENHV. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter your platform, sim version, or level of experience.

This looks great but if the flight is set to be in the day time will there be any northern lights to see?

It’s night time in local time

Did the flight, didn’t see Northern Lights, but it could be a glitch that affected something else too since when your preloaded pilot doesn’t load properly he sticks 90% of his body out of the cockpit like he’s Dino from the Flintstones

Settings say daytime. Not local time. I’m sure most people realised though.

Ah yes, that’s probably just copy pasted from all the other flights which are done in daytime. But it’s something that can be adjusted on the fly so it’s not a big deal.

I did the flight as a test and had major snow happening with live weather set to on.

Surely bring something warm for the arrival at Tromso ENTC. It’ll be snow, rain, or a mixture of those by the time we get there

I’m going to try the AeroElvira Optica today. Let’s see if the Optica is fast enough to keep up.

Almost landing at ENHV for joining the groupflight with the Cessna Skycourier

Set daytime: 16 nov 2024 @ 21:35 UTC

Had a blast during this community flight. The previous few ones I did not manage to join because of some settings not working out, but I am so happy I got it sorted for today’s flight as the northern lights were simply amazing!

This FlyIn must have been the reason I bought the sting S4, the panorama canopy was perfect for this flight. And in VR it look surreal real. OMG we should definetly do more night flights, couldn’t stop taking pictures.

I’m sorry but these are alread the filtered out ones.
