FLIGHT DETAILS

Join us for a trip across the sea as we (partially) re-trace the journey of Odysseus from Homer’s epic poem! We’ll start at Çanakkale Airport in Türkiye near the archeological site of ancient Troy and then fly across the Aegean Sea to Greece for several touch-and-go landings and a flyover of the island of Ithaca.

Particularly adventurous pilots are encouraged to test the wrath of Poseidon by setting your weather to thunderstorm conditions! :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain:

Suggested Marketplace Add-ons: Players may choose to purchase these products from the in-sim Marketplace to enhance this week’s Fly-In. Please note that purchasing any of these products is entirely optional and is not required to participate in the group flight.

Guys, I know a shorcut!

Also freeware airports:

There is a lot to unpack here (literarly), all of them are available as freeware from multiple developers.

LTBH

prefer this one as textures seem better (even though 2020 native):

2024 native

LGAV

LGKC
prefered:

also available in a 2020 native airport pack, but less detailed, can be cherry-picked from the zip:

LGKF

prefered this one (even though 2020), had more details

less detailed, but 24, also has some strange markings on the ground

LGPZ

has a few overlapping side-buildings but didn’t bother me, part of this Airport pack, can be cherry-picked from zip

Well, that was an odyssey.

Hello,

I’d like to join but every time I try to import the flight plan into the flight planner it tells me “wrong file version - this file was not produced for Microsoft flight simulator 2024” which seems very odd to me.

I’m logged in on my playstation account on the flight planner page and the flight planner works for myself, that is to say when I save a flight I can import the data in game into the EFB no problem.

But downloading the flight plan from this thread and then importing doesn’t seem to work.

Any ideas?

Personally, I almost never import the flight plan - I just follow everyone else and it usually works out fine.

My issue is that, half the time, I’m not awake in time to join - it starts at 08:00 in my time zone, and I usually wake up an hour or two later than that.

Same happens on PC. The .pln file can’t be opened in Flight Planner as it is the wrong version.

I don’t know how the Playstation works with links but the Flight Planner requires the hyperlink to access it, but MSFS24 can read the .pln just fine.

On PC there is a simple workaround by opening the .pln in Windows Notepad and changing the version number from 11 to 12. It works just fine after that. Don’t know if PS has an equivalent text editor.

Depending on the aircraft of choice, it may also be possible to put the plan in manually in the FMS. Today’s flight is mostly with airports as waypoints, so that is relatively easy to put in.

LTBH departure
LGPZ arrival

and in between the departure and the arrival the waypoints

Hi @SeedyL3205 Is there any chance you could list the ICAO codes for all of the airports (including the touch and go airports) in the description. The .PLN files are hard to import on XBox. Thanks!

Thank you all for your replies! I’ll just try to fly along

Just confirming, you’re flying on Xbox with MSFS (2020) and not MSFS 2024, correct?

Hi @AloneData247495 and @UnwiredEddie,

Are either of you able to post a screenshot of what you are seeing? The .pln file loads normally on my PC without any error messages on both MSFS (2020) and MSFS 2024.

Hello @MisterPugh,

Importing .pln files has never been supported on XBOX. If you are using MSFS 2024, you can load the flight plan using the link in the OP to the flight planner website. If you’re just looking for the ICAO codes, those are also displayed on the flight planner website (see screenshot below).

Thanks,
MSFS Team

@SeedyL3205 If I use the link to Flight Planner, everything is fine. If I download the .pln and attempt to open it in Flight Planner I get

If I open the .pln in Notepad and change AppVersionMajor from 11 to 12 I get

and it works fine.

Oh, you’re trying to import the .pln file into the Flight Planner website? That’s not necessary – just use the Flight Planner link in the OP to open it.

MSFS 2024 Pilots on PC, PS5, and Xbox can import the flight plan from the new Flight Planner tool at this link.

The .pln file is for players on PC who want to open the flight plan directly from the World Map in the sim on either MSFS (2020) or MSFS 2024.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Yep, that’s what I do normally. @AloneData247495 is on Playstation and is having troubles getting it to work on their end - I was just letting them know what we PC users can do as I don’t know how PS works with flight plans.

PS5 users can use the direct link to the flight planner website in the OP, just like XBOX players.

Thank you guys for the help. The link indeed worked after I removed my last active flight plan from the flight planner.

I was at the departure airport with all settings as suggested but I couldn’t see anyone else so I assumed no one was flying on playstation. Followed the stream until now I’ll try next week again, maybe someone on playstation will be there.
