If you think MSFS is bad when it comes to problems wait till you get a load of P3D and XP. I will admit though that XP makes troubleshooting rather simple. XP12 and P3Dv6 (if it comes) will have it’s fair share of problems too. I have never used a flight sim (or any piece of software for that matter) that didn’t have any problems.
nearly 15 months after release, no replay tool, no multi-monitor support, issues remain with IFR, ATC… all this after WAITING A DECADE from MSFT’s last Flight Sim… yet the issue is the consumer!
Of course folks are impatient
10+ years brings functional expectations
MSFS is vastly superior to FSX, it’s not like MSFS is some serious downgrade from a past iteration. I can address all of your points via PM if you wish.
EDIT: Shortened post to avoid getting too off topic.
With the low framerate and rampant CTDs on Xbox, I think the PC crowd will enjoy this more. A high performance PC will mean a huge advantage in these fast, head to head races.
Xbox series X bandwith = 560GB per second
No doubt on many levels it is a superior product to FSX.
Zero doubt!
It would be wrong of anyone to claim the effort of Asobo was not an improvement, especially visually, to the franchise - for the features they focused on.
HOWEVER, launching without features that have been standard for 20 years… not lifting the bar high on ATC… weak IFR etc etc.
I remember in August 2020 scratching my head about the Garmin 1000 in the Cessna thinking they barely touched the surface. Then the device/peripheral defaults seemed like an after thought, and where limited only to current devices. Once I got going… literally my first flight, I noticed an odd thing: no replay. No replay in a 2020 sim???
Superior yes, but only in narrowly defined ways.
Respect to all @ Asobo.
It’s an extremely heavy one to lift. Personally I stopped using stock ATC back in 2009, been using an online network since.
This is an interesting one because it’s something I’ve never used in my bit over 20 years in this hobby. It wasn’t too long ago I figured out XP has one, still haven’t used it.
Guys, get back on topic please instead of warming up those ancient discussions that we get with every SU, WU or DLC.
That stuff has little to nothing to do with Reno Air Races. Otherwise you’ll get the topic closed, which will help noone
I’m buying it just to collect aircraft…especially Asobo level quality aircraft!
agree 100% - the other discussion is useless
Personally I’m most interested in the T-6’s and wondering if it will be possible to fly with the canopy open…also - as with the Ju-52’s sliding windows - will the canopy (both front and rear) be position-able rather than either open or closed.
Practically a necessity for taxiing these planes too, and listening to that radial as you roll up to the hold short line is half the fun. It’s going to be a huge miss if that isn’t included at launch and I’m waiting with bated breath to see what happens here. As long as the flight model isn’t completely ridiculous, the rest is going to be gravy. Since I’ll never get to fly these aircraft in real life, I’ll never know the difference anyway. But I do know the visual model and sounds will be stunning. The Asobo aircraft always are, so I’m really glad they’re the ones doing these aircraft rather than a third party to be honest. The one downside is that they may not get the continued support and improvements we see with the third parties as a result. Like if the canopies don’t open, we won’t be able to mod them to make that possible, or petition to have the feature quickly added.
Obviously a captain irl
I like the planes, especially since Xbox has not seen many. Will give the racing a shot, who knows…it could be fun!
I managed to get one race and a couple of qualifying rounds in on the Beta before it shut down, and I LOVED it. I admit the repetitive nature of only one track does make me worry a little, but I really see the fun of this add on, and can imagine many a twitch streamer setting up group races and a lot of people having a ton of fun with it. Just not sure about whether to go the whole thing or the base.
I will probably get the $20 add-on, if only for the planes. I’m also interested in trying the racing aspect, though based of a lot of the comments I read from the beta, I’m not sure how long the appeal will last. Do the real Reno Air Races use the same basic course every time? I can see how in a game, that might get a bit boring after awhile.
If MSFS makes the air racing components - the Start/Finish line, pylons etc available as placeable objects in the SDK then this addon has FAR more potential to grow a fan base than it would otherwise.
I hope they get this right but just being able to fly the airplanes they’ve created for it is enough for me…
The Volocopter exceeded my expectations. Nice way to explore the neighbourhood in a low and slow manner. Well done to the developers.
