OpenXR Toolkit (upscaling, world scale, hand tracking...) - Release thread

i will NEVER understand and accept when “making a youtube video” has become an acceptable way to document some optimizations etc. a ONE HOUR LONG VIDEO for something that could be written on one or two pages of text. I can’t believe this has seriously become a thing and that so many people are actually endorsing this. CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THIS IS HOW @mbucchia would PRIMARILY COMMUNICATE? It’s ineffective.

Some folks aren’t too tech savvy and it’s nice to have a video to show the various steps etc IMO.

I know for us things like “open NVCP” and “set MR to on”, “turn off vsync” is like super obvious, but I can also understand how for some people, it’s so much easier to SEE it, what the menu looks like, where the little checkbox is… it’s reassuring.

I certainly don’t have time to go and make those myself, so I appreciate it when folks like @PIESKYTOURS or @FlyWithNick8888 make very detailed content like this.

Different media work differently for people. While I’m very proud of our website’s documentation, I’m pretty sure I would be busier answering questions if these videos did not exist, and that would take away some dev time!

Great video, very helpful thanks. :+1:

One question I have is what sort of FPS do you get with MR off in order to achieve a steady 30 FPS with MR on? If have tried MR on my setup (i9 10th gen/3080/32GB/G2) and even though I can pull 40+ FPS at cruise, I cannot achieve 30 FPS with MR on and while I can do 22.5 FPS it is a stuttery and artifacting mess, so I’d much rather a smooth 30-40 FPS with it off. Thanks.

when you put it that way…

Cheers @mbucchia - yes good to see some people appreciating the hard work we do with making videos.

I thought I’d try these settings on my i9 with 3080, except at 75 FSR, and was getting similar FPS to you. Better still, I had previously tried NIS with an earlier version of this tool and was left underwhelmed with the resultant quality, but this FSR setting seems much clearer so I might give it a go with my flying from now on.

Yeah I found early on the FSR looked much better for me.

Glad you are getting some good results.

Very nice video - thank you.

you don’t have to watch it. you can skip forward. many options besides complaining.

i stopped watching immediately after seeing his tips on “cpu optimization”. First of all using intel extreme tuning app to OC his cpu (which in itself is a terrible suggestion), WHILE admitting on the video “he won’t go into details about ocing cause he doesn’t fully understand it”, WHILE on-screen diagnostic clearly shows his cpu running at very unhealthy voltages and STILL actually posting this online as advice, actually “helping” other people do…let’s just say…very nice things to their cpu’s life span (or worse). I am very very sensitive to this kind of…“behavior”. I’m trying so hard not to lose my cool right now.

there’s so many other , wayyy more important things to worry about at the moment. Relax.

I don’t think the video is too bad as a kind of overview of what COULD be optimized.

However, I’m getting stutters since SU8 and I don’t think it’s down to any of the factors he mentions. Nothing is throttling or overheating, so there is no need to undervolt anything, everything is tuned well and was running great before SU8, and now it’s not. Many people are reporting these stutters now and it’s clearly an Asobo code issue tha tcan’t be optimized away. Maybe he doesnn’t notice it due to MR, I don’t know. I can’t even get MR to run smoothly and without insane artifacts.

What bothers me the most (and this is true for a lot of ‘tutorials’ videos), is that they say “do this, do that” but without any explanation of why we need to change a value and what this value does.

The only video I’ve seen that does what you request was done by pieinthesky just recently dealing with msfs2020 in game settings, well worth a watch.

Great video, GPU voltage/frequency curve info was extremely useful. Thanks for posting

Tried the graphics settings and MR On, didn’t work (AMD 6800XT), at all. Do undervolt card now, see what it does.

is this washed out colors thing a reverb G2 problem or a MSFS problem? i ask because varjo users report great contrast color and clarity

Washed out colors are a global VR issue. I’ve the same on my Quest 2.

try bright 45
contrast 50.8
red 68.7
blue 67.4
green 73.9

Oh I did tweak with OXRT and it’s better, less blue and less bright but I was talking about the vanilla game, without mods. :slightly_smiling_face:
