Opinion on object-attaching add-on for aircraft

This is exactly what I’ve been hoping someone would produce! Have you seen Payload Manager X by Lorby SI, I think what you’re working on would be similar…PayloadManager X available - Lorby-SI

For mine, I think this would be great to be able to add FLIR’s, winch’s etc to heli’s that don’t have them…I know they might not be functional, but at least it makes the heli’s look the part until more are produced!

Best of luck, will keep a close eye on this.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on this - It has been a tough slog, but I’ve been making a slow but measurable progress with this. The main reason is the lack of reliable documentation on some of the SimConnect functionality, so the work accomplished so far has been the result of sheer trial and error process, which is very time consuming.

However, we do have a working prototype in MSFS2020 (Not P3D), not perfect, but it is a start. At the moment, we have the ability to attach ANY SimObject (stock or user-designed) dynamically to the aircraft, take off with it, and land with it, remove it, add it, etc. This object follows aircraft in flight with rigid latitude/longitude clamp, however, we have some oscillations happening in vertical (altitude) direction which we are trying to address.

Anyway, I will post a video in the next few days demonstrating what we have. I have been also posting on Dev forum, and I’ve been getting some good pointers, but so far no solution for the altitude oscillations.

Does it show on user TCAS?

Sorry, does what show? Oscillations, user aircraft or attached object??

The attached object. As far as I know, injecting anything in the sim via SimConnect results in TCAS alerts

Anything, as in any category Simobject (GroundVehicle, Animal, Boat) or just “aircraft” category?

Frankly, I haven’t been testing it with any TCAS-equipped aircraft. If it shows up on TCAS, then it is definitely a TCAS bug. If you can direct me on how to test this on any default aircraft, I’ll gladly give it a whirl.

The default VFR Map would show them.

Aha, ok - no, nothing shows up on the default VFR map when I spawn and attach the object.

A quick screenshot of the work in progress… This is a SimObject dynamically linked to the default aircraft. (I know - wrong aircraft )

… and in flight:

I created a few SimObject props just to play with… here are the results. While the horizontal axis placement is very stable (Lat, Lon), I am still not able to resolve the vertical (Altitude) oscillations. No matter what I try and how I set the data, there are always vertical oscillations when the altitude is changing (rock steady when in level flight or on the runway). There is something in the inner workings that is introducing the oscillations, and it is quite impossible, aside from trial and error, to establish what they may be and how to fix them. We have the math in place to attach any SimObject anywhere on the aircraft, and in any orientation… the only thing holding us back is this altitude oscillation problem. @Asobo, or anyone, if you would have any insight on how to properly do this, I’d greatly appreciate it!

I’ve looked into this and downloaded and tried it (although it is very buggy), but I think this is a very specific case for P3D V4.5 and up, where LM added custom SimConnect functionality that enabled for attaching stock or custom SimConnect objects to the aircraft. Yes, exactly what I’m trying, but on MSFS2020, which unfortunately does not support this functionality.
