They have fixed 20’000 bugs. Sometimes people in this community don’t see the forest from the trees. They only focus on a small number of bugs that affect them, and if they don’t get fixed, they jump into conclusion that the team is not doing anything at all.
Hi,
possible I have overheard it but who invites these 5000 users? What are the criteria? Also Mr. Neumann speaks about a “must do” to invite 3rd party devs:
how is here the process? I ask because we (Navigraph) was not invited last time … so possible we miss some background information - I have asked the same in the Dev-Support forum for a month or so but without any real answer.
So, possible someone can explain the process to be a part of these opt-in/beta/branch testings …
Thank you very much,
Richard
5000 was a guess not a solid concrete number, it’ll be Opt-In which means anyone can join it if they go ahead with the idea.
the 5k is a wild understatement in my opinion
If there are a million players, I guess the number is anywhere between 20k and 100k. At least.
Absolutely!
Hopefully SU6 and the following updates will finally bury the widespread theory that the XBox release meant the end of all good things for the PC community, and therefore also for all those “serious simmers” out there.
It was always obvious to me that the graphics issues introduced with SU5 were merely results of a rushed release without the necessary settings adjustments for high-end PC’s rather than an evil plan of some kind to throw most of the user base off the bus because MS would never allow a PC version to outshine the XBox.
The time after SU5 has not been pretty in this forum, and of course this thread is also littered with pointless and unfounded negativity.
I will not be signing up for anymore beta. It is useless when identifying and reporting bugs that they never plan to fix… Because I may be one of a few who see/experience/report a specific bug before releasing the update.
ATC expedite bug.
Aircraft Altitude higher than aircraft design (i.e. Longitude max altitude is 45k but planning defaults to 46k or 47k.)
Clouds and lightning.
CTDs.
Reason two is I lost a few things after beta closed. Hobbes times were reset. I had to reinstall the sim twice, the first update installed in a different location than the original install… Doubling the disk space used and the path for Community content was too long, breaking some mods.
The change that moved most of the code execution to the GPU increased heat in my rig, I had to add fans to help cooling.
Not to mention the troubles we all had downloading the update… That took hours (I believe my first download took 6 or 8 hours).
Like most companies, Asobo is more focused on making more money, adding new planes, Xbox release, etc. Bugs go unfixed, even those I reported early in the release.
I still love the sim and will keep flying. I just bite my tongue when something f#$ks up.
If I’ve said it once I’ve said it 1,000 times: the number of beta testers was not and is not the issue. I did not see a single bug reported regarding the beta I was involved in that was not identified within the beta.
Having agreed to one myself, I’ll say this: nobody forces it on you. And if you agree to NDA you should honor it. I completely understand why they do it. I have un-typed quite a few posts on here to keep myself well within bounds.
Absolutely, 100%.
It’s mind boggling. Just watch/listen to the live Q&A from yesterday when they discuss wind gusts. It’s like Seb is hearing about it for the first time, seemed confused about what the issue is.
It’s unreal… Seb said he flies 6 hours a day and hasn’t noticed the lack of wind gusts (using Live Weather no doubt). Not sure how there could be any confusion at all about the wind gust issue. Absolutely stunning.
I think Jorg meant that if everyone was invited, only maybe 5000 would bother to opt-in.
Having said that, Jorg did say they want to expand the beta testing to more 3rd party vendors. So I think you should contact Jorg or Jane, and they can probably get Navigraph into the next beta. I don’t see why an established company like Navigraph wouldn’t be given access to the beta.
To be fair you could have changed that folder before you hit the install button. I don’t know why it was changing in the first place as I have never had mine do that, but I have responded to one instance where it was self inflicted by renaming the Community folder inside the dialogue box for choosing where to instal the update. The net result was the sim was reinstalled into an empty Community folder.
See what I mean…
I didn’t know I had to… Understand that the typical installation program should know where the previously installed program resides and OVERWRITE it. It’s not my fault that I did not see the path before pressing install or continue.
Also, this was weird because Asobo appears to change the installation process. One of the earlier updates asked me where I wanted to install the main program (default is c:/program files/Windows Apps/Microsoft.FlightSimulator_<version number, etc.>
I selected D: and it created a directory structure under D:\Windows Apps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_<version, etc.>
There was a link from the default installation path to my D: Drive.
For whatever reason, the install after beta went to a totally different directory:
D:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-3614399670-1168835466-867837764-1002\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages
My data path (Official & Community) was still D:\MSFS
So, W T F?
I have to laugh at this…
I was looking through the files in the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.19.9.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe directory.
There is in fact a dynamic link library called W T F.dll (without the spaces)
I can only imagine what it contains.
Great find! Skipping the obvious, it could stand for:
Weird Temperature Fluctuations.
Or Wind Tunnel Figures.
Or Wild Terrain Features
Or Wacky Terminal Failures
Or Words To Filter
To the OP:
Why in the world would GIANT Microsoft Corp. have to have a bunch of beta testers more than a YEAR after the program was released ? Are you kidding me ? Tell me that you are just kidding !
The issue is on your end.
Not really, it’s an issue that has popped up several times in the past. Is just one part of what is a very broken download, install and updater mechanism… That means it is Asobo’s fault.
I give up. Why?
