If you are in the UK I believe that would be covered by GDPR. Since MS do business in the UK they have to abide by that too.
@hobanagerik
Are you in the UK and did you get prompted to give your consent to send anything about your usage of FS2020?
If not, either they don’t send anything, or none of the people under the GDPR umbrella are contributing to fill their bug reporting database Sebastian was talking about. If this is true, then let’s just hope you won’t get any bug with any European airports, database, Bing, servers, etc… otherwise it might never be solved!
Yes, I’m a UK resident. I don’t remember being asked explicitly about it, but it may be wrapped up in the EULA. That should be visible from the MS Store I expect, though I’ve never looked for it.
With most Window Apps, if they CRASH, there is a Pop Up, that tells you that data has been collected about the CTD, to be sent to Microsoft.
The Pop Up gives you a link to the text file on your PC, that is the data that will be sent, and gives you the option to send or not.
I do not see this happening with MSFS

or specific for a crashing application

If you allowed diagnostic data when you installed Windows I’m pretty sure it says for Windows and other Microsoft products and not just Windows. There is no way they would grab that info illegally, it would cost them billions if caught so if and when they are using your data you can bet you have 100% agreed to it whether you know it or not.
@DensestSnail693
Would you help trying to understand this process?
Here is the Diagnostic and Feedback online help:
Diagnostics, feedback, and privacy in Windows (microsoft.com)
But when I read this:
Microsoft uses Required diagnostic data to:
Determine whether an app or process experiences a performance issue (e.g., the app crashes or hangs) and when a crash-dump file is created on the device (crash dumps themselves are not collected without additional permissions, such as choosing to send Optional diagnostic data).
And I’ve set my settings both at the minimum “Required” level (can’t opt out from any) and I’ve never seen any FS2020 crash dump prompt either… ?!
All I’m really saying is yes I’m sure MS are using diagnostics but only from those that allow it. They aren’t the NSA
You might be right. Let’s try a poll and ask (there are 108 messages in this topic, maybe a dozen or more different people posting)
| Have you seen any prompt to send your FS2020 Crash Dump? | |
|---|---|
| NO | |
| YES |
Why not ask everyone if they read their EULA?
