Anyone have the ORBX sceneries? Was thinking of getting the Dubai, Mumbai, and Singapore City packs, and a few of the airports during the sale, such as Santa Barbara, Catalina Island, and/or Burbank? Are these worth it?
Orbx sceneries are usually very good quality…
Santa Barbara, Catalina Island and Burbank! Have these and I like them all, don’t think you could go wrong with any of them.
I’m on Xbox. I love the meshes, Dubai and Singapore are wonderful to explore. The London pack makes London worth touring, but London still suffers from bad base textures. Like there are cranes all over the city, and for some reason the cranes all look like they have moss growing on them. If it wasn’t for the London pack I really couldn’t stand flying around London at all presently (Asobo knows and says they will address London at some point).
The one on Xbox I am dying for is Cape Town, considering I lived in South Africa for a while. I specifically don’t fly around Cape Town until they release it so I don’t get disappointed with the base city.
I also have a couple of their airports very nicely done; it’s worth the money
I have Singapore - it’s nice. Cheers.
Agreed. Very nice.
I go on a product by product basis with them. I certainly wouldn’t buy anything they made blindly.
I find quite a few Orbx airports to be lazy ports from previous sims with very retro textures. Others are really good.
I’ve been using orbx since FSX. And yes now some of the quality has gone down hill. Some just pure laziness (pretty sure Sydney Cityscape for MSFS doesnt even have LODs which cause a big FPS hit.
But when they make something with love n care they are ultimately one of the best. I have a lot of their sceneries / landclasses/ cityscapes etc across multiple sims. Their Orbx central is also great! Recommended.
Orbx city packs are great in quality and value.
BUT they recently did something with the Frankfurt city pack that I do not like.
They did a partnership with Asobo to supply all the POI buildings in FRANKFURT for WU6. So they gave all the Frankfurt city pack assets to Asobo. Everyone got it for free during WU6 while those who purchased the pack are left feeling cheated somehow.
BTW you cannot buy the Frankfurt city pack on Orbx anymore just to hammer in the point even more.
WU7 is Australia and Orbx is again a partner for that WU. So you can take a guess what they would do with all those nice Orbx products in Australia
Orbx does have a Capetown city pack, and it seems to be on sale if you hurry
Understood. I’m doubtful Asobo will perform WU to cover Mumbai, Cape Town, Singapore, and Dubai all in a year - maybe eventually, but on sale those ORBX are like $5-7 each, so the end user gets those potentially years ahead of WU.
It’s not on Xbox yet
Oops, sorry, I overlooked that you were on XBox.
I fly with one of the developers at Orbx, and I have to say that he/they are not only really dedicated, detail oriented guys, but they are also really nice people. I have been buying their scenery for many decades and have never found them to be lacking in any way. They are, IMO, the best that money can buy. If you ever have technical problems they go head over heals out of their way to help you through your problem, even years after you have made your purchase. BUT do not take only my word on it, try it for yourself and see how much you will like it.
Thanks. Which specific Orbx airports were “lazy ports” with the retro textures, and which have you found to be really good? Hard to tell from the Marketplace. Thanks.
Burbank is literally a port and the performance and textures is not that great and the airport is missing night lighting in some areas.
The rest I own like London City are noticeably better quality.
OK. Already got Catalina Island. Like it enough - much better than default, which was just a runway. Was thinking about Burbank and Santa Barbara. So no to Burbank?
Santa Barbara is better. Burbank needs a visual and performance update. If they are on sale get both.
Burbank in the screenshot.I picked it up on sale months ago.
They both are on sale. I fly in that area a lot, mainly GA.
