Oshkosh

Is there any Oshkosh Airventure scenery? For Xbox /marketplace. I didn’t see any but wanted to check. If not, that’s odd. For such an aviation themed game and missions of aviation events, how can this one be left out. Hopefully someone makes it.

Nothing for X-Box. There was a third-party that made a limited-time release for PC last year but I can’t even recall where that was from (wasn’t posted to the main file libraries light fs.to).

No, there is nothing for XBOX, a couple freeware’s on flightsim.to for PC.

The best Oshkosh scenery is done by Pilot Edge, for their annual SimVenture event, but it is only really available to PE members, (either subscribers or those on a test evaluation of PE)

Gotcha. Hopefully in time asobo or a developer makes one.

Yeah it does seem to be a bit of an oversight for MSFS to not have a high quality scenery available for this iconic airport, not to mention the surrounding area airfields that also do duty during the annual EAA week. I will be attending Airventure 2024 in person this year and would be nice to have a little sim time around this airfield before I go.

Funny that. Some of the most important and popular aviation sites in history and no one want to take money for bringing them to console. Oshkosh & Duxford (Imperial War Museum Aviation center) are hugely popular across many aspects of aviation across many contries and continents. But when asked if anyone will bring payware versions to a potentially HUGE audience and earn loads of greenbacks, 3rd party developers shy away. WHY? I recently asked several top rated airfield and scenery producers along with some who created some freeware versions and the answer i got was mostly " why would we want to ruin our fun"
I thought the sim was for everyone with both PC and XBOX inclusive. I sincerely hope that with FS2024 along comes a greater equality in content across both platforms.

Between the update delays on the part of Microsoft, competing free scenery options, and I’m sure other restrictions, I doubt the marketplace is really that lucrative. Now add in the additional hardware limitations of the Xbox that forces a lower quality product and it’s really not surprising at the hesitation.

EAA is a huge event, but also kinda niche. It’s not a huge airport and doesn’t get a lot of traffic other than GA, and tubeliners don’t fly in there, so I doubt it’s really known about outside a relatively small number of hardcore simmers. It would be cool to see a fleshed out custom option for Xbox, but it’s probably wishful thinking.

Most developers that have commented on their distribution models have indicated that marketplace sales make up 95%+ of their sales income.

Just speaking for PC… remember, MSFS was released globally to users from all walks of life, many of whom (thousands of whom) may not be fully in tune with the online community. All they know is that they have an exe to access the game, and oh look a marketplace to get addons. It would be a big assumption to think that the crowd outside of the long-time FS users even knows about Orbx, Contrail, Simmarket, and the other dozen stores out right now.

And those of us on console who do frequent these locations and are aware that external addons are availiable and made by those who also produce payware get fed up with seeing aircraft parked and taxiing 6ft above the ground. And then are snubbed quite openly when asked what add ons we would like to see
