OurRadioFS — The Community VHF Radio

Hi all,

I’ve been building OurRadioFS, a free companion utility for MSFS that turns your aircraft’s COM radio into a working VHF radio. Sharing it here in case it’s useful to some of you.

What it is — and what it does not do. It’s a small Windows app that runs alongside the sim. It reads your COM1 frequency and your position through SimConnect — it never writes to the sim and never changes your flight. When you hold push-to-talk, you’re talking to the pilots on that frequency who are actually in range: who you hear depends on real distance and altitude, so voices fade into static as aircraft drift away, just like real VHF. It’s not a global chatroom — it feels like sharing the airspace with the pilots around you.

What it does:

Real VHF range — line-of-sight, driven by your altitude and position.
Signal fades into static at the edge of range; no hard cutoff. You can hear a plane getting closer.
The radio only works when the aircraft’s electrics could actually power it (read from the sim).
Incoming volume follows your cockpit COM1 volume knob.
Universal push-to-talk — any keyboard key or controller/HOTAS button.
A live list of the aircraft on your frequency and in range (callsign, type, distance, altitude).
Optional in-cockpit toolbar panel (Community folder) to see who’s on your frequency without leaving the cockpit.
Optional live map — turn it on to share your position and see who’s flying and on which frequency; find someone to fly with, then tune in. Off by default; otherwise your position is only used to work out who’s in range.
It also runs on X-Plane 11/12, and MSFS and X-Plane pilots share the same frequencies — so there are more voices on the air from day one.

Free and private: no accounts, no email, no tracking; voice is relayed live and never recorded.

Install: grab the free installer from flightsim.to and run it — it’s a normal Windows application, not a Community-folder mod. Pick a callsign and a PTT key and you’re set. (Windows SmartScreen may warn because the app isn’t code-signed — it’s a free project; More info → Run anyway.)

Happy to answer any questions in this thread, and I’ll keep it updated as new versions come out.

Update 1.5.2

- Added support for starting the application minimized.

  • Added selectable audio mode between Radio Effect and Clean Audio.
  • Radio display now shows — until the radio is powered on.
  • Fixed callsign field alignment in Settings.
  • Fixed the Saved message in Settings remaining visible indefinitely.

Good idea :+1:t4: But whenever I open the live map in my browser to see who’s online, there are usually only 1-2 aircraft worldwide, or most of the time no aircraft at all :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Numbers will be low until more people use the app. It is a fantastic add-on and i use it to make radio calls but as you point out there is almost no one online to hear me butchering the calls. One day someone will answer me and i will probably get the biggest fright.

Hi, that’s true, but we need to be patient. It was launched very recently; Rome wasn’t built in a day. Like anything, it’s a matter of time. Best regards.
