Passenger loading system: seat-by-seat interface and 3D passenger model spawning issues

:white_check_mark: SIM INFORMATION

This is vital information for our test team, please do not skip it or your issue may not be able to be reproduced or fixed.

1.1.9.0

  • Game Platform (Steam, Xbox, MS Store):
    MS Store

:white_check_mark: ISSUE DESCRIPTION

  1. Description of the issue:
Seats tab under mass and balance page of aircraft tab in EFB doesn’t seem to work properly or consistently in multiple planes, including the citation longitude

  2. If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:
All tested planes with >2 seats that support the new 3D passenger models. Longitude, Baron, Bonanza, new King Air, both Cirrus planes, Cessna 172, 404,400, 208, etc.

  3. Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
    yes, yes

:white_check_mark: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you? (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)
seat-by-seat interface is always malfunctioning. 3D models fail to appear upon loading if flight is started cold and dark

:white_check_mark: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue.

  1. Load cold and dark in the Longitude (or other plane that supports 3D passenger models)
  2. Bring up page on EFB. Attempt to add weight to seats and click “load in aircraft”
  3. Observe that total mass reverts to what it was before you attempted to add the weight. Blue/white circles/squares representing seats behave oddly. Sometimes clicking “load in aircraft” empties a seat you tried to fill already.
  4. Slide Quick fill to the right and click “load in aircraft”
  5. Observe that 3D passenger models do not appear
  6. quit to main menu, start new flight on any runway
  7. Slide Quick fill to the right and click “load in aircraft”
  8. Observe that now, 3D passengers appear inside plane

So after some fiddling around, I’ve figured out that passengers can be loaded correctly (but only in a subset of planes) by using the “quick fill” slider and then clicking “load in aircraft”. The issue remains where trying to do this manually (or should I say, not so quickly) by clicking on seats and entering weights does not have the desired effect.

It’s entirely possible that this is somewhere between a bug per se and just really counterintuitive UX; “quick” fill does imply that using that slider is optional.

Another thing I figured out last night – passengers only spawn-in if the flight was started hot on the runway – if you start cold & dark, no amount of fiddling with “quick fill” and “load in aircraft” causes them to appear. The weight of the aircraft will adjust correctly, but the 3D passenger models never appear in the aircraft. This seems like a bug that should be relatively easy to fix in the next patch…

Hello,

same issue. Passengers only in start at the runway. Cold and dark there are no passengers.
Steam version.

Agreed-hoping for an upcoming patch to fix this as I like to have passengers spawn-in the cabin.

Yeah same issue here. I can get it to work occasionally but most of the time no joy.

Hey,

it works if you start cold and dark. You must do the passenger boarding over the atc.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Yes
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

RTX 3070 Ti 8GB (laptop GPU).

I think this should be addressed in one of the upcoming patches along with more important bug fixes/improvements/enhancements by the team-as I enjoy the passenger system in 2024.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Has anyone tried filling the passenger seats, and then requesting through ‘GROUND’ to ‘START BOARDING PASSENGERS’? Then see if your passengers show up from Cold and Dark?

Ugh, nobody (at least no core simmer) wants to use MSobo’s ATC when products like BATC are several years ahead.

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged

I’m thinking (as mentioned before) at this point that this is less of a bug per se, and more just absolutely horrible, un/counter-intuitive UX design that needs a total rethink. Needing to use the ATC interface (and having the doors open) to spawn the passengers from cold and dark, but being able to just spawn them in from start on runway using the EFB, seems like the sort of design accident that happens when teams aren’t talking to each other or are designing for different use cases, not something that would ever be deliberately agreed upon in advance. And without a doubt, the entire thing is very poorly documented (yay Agile!)

But also I really hope that the loading interfaces in the EFB are a 0.8 stub and we’re going to get something more fleshed-out and intuitive in future releases
