Passive income losing money

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Passive “income” is losing a lot of money each day because the insurance is more expensive than the income.

I have two companies (Flightseeing and VIP) with three planes in total (2 x used Cessna 172, 1 x new Vision Jet). All the planes have the Crew mode set to On. I bought all three planes with Premium Insurance. Because of this, every day when I start MSFS-2024 and go to career mode, I have much less money than the day before.

The Flightseeing company with one Cessna 172 loses by far the most money. This morning, when I checked the Passive “Income” for it, it was 38k, but the insurance payment was 99k.

I tried to change the insurance plan to something other than Premium, but it doesn’t seem to save the settings.

UPDATE: Took a screenshot from this morning’s Passive “income” results.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Every 24 hours or once I log in for the first time each day.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes (although I have a Cargo Company)

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• My credits yesterday before going to sleep: 2 170 934 cr. I have 2 lower insurances: 512cr and one medium 31420cr. 1 of the Cessna 172 has Crew ON. I got notification of passive income in the morning: 72 480 cr. And broken looking Insurance screen (no numbers in the screen just {NUMBER}). After these screens, my total credits was 2 055 604cr?!? My calculation says it should have been something like 2 213 018cr. So passive income is useless right now.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
• Checked data from the Account history. Why I’m being charged 151 570cr for insurance when they are set to 2 x 512cr and 1x 31420cr? Seems I’m billed 3 x premium for insurance! This is an insurance scam!!! And only got 1 x 36240 income instead of 2.

Yes, the Insurance screen is broken for me too. It shows nothing, but I can see it when I go to My companies > Account history. However, there seems to be a disparity in the so-called Passive “Income” too:

As seen in the images aboce, I should have earned around 58k but in the account history only around 29k is shown. Then again, according to the Insurance screen I should have paid 0 cr for it, but in the account history it says 179k, so I guess that makes it even…

In any case, the way the game works now, it’s very effective in making sure that I start each day with 0cr. In other words, it discourages grinding the previous day… interesting design choice…

I am loving career mode but this is killing me.
The insurance bill (which you can’t read) is many factors bigger than it should be. I am loosing 100,000’s of thousands of dollars being overcharged.

I have three companies and three planes between them, all with passive income on.
Yesterday I flew about 5 hours in two different planes with an income of 166,830. There were three passive income flight with a total of 3 hours and income of 52, 590.
The insurance bill (for 8 or so hours) which I have mid level coverage was 197,220.
I’ve not had any plane crashes in the last 48 hours though I have had some CTD mid missions.

To avoid losing all my money, I now disabled the Crew option. Tomorrow I will see if that helped, since I’m reading from other posts that even when it’s not selected, the crew sometimes does the flights anyway.

I also tried to change the insurance plan to the cheapest for each plane, but it doesn’t seem to save it. You can select a different plan but there is no save option, only return. I guess that is another bug.

Anyway, with the current msfs-2024 built (or this could be also a server-side issue), this is what I’ve learned:

  1. Alway choose the cheapest insurance plan when buying a new plane, as the profits don’t cover the premium plan, and insurance doesn’t pay anything anyway when you crash.
  2. Do NOT set Crew to On. See point one.
  3. The insurance plan cannot be changed after the plane purchase, so select wisely. See point one.
  4. See point one.
  5. Oh, I almost forgot, see point one.

I actually took the cheapest insurance when bought extra plane. Was still charged premium.

Yep same problem, makes career mode almost worthless, i’ve lost over 3 million credits with just one aircraft as two companies without an aircraft is losing about 500k a day. It doesn’t matter if crew is or off, can’t change off premium insurance.

may i see the all companies chart? if there is evidence of you using your own plane, then that explains the insurance costs… that said - basic is what i use.

from my experience changing insurance there is no save. the moment you click the new plan, it tallies up all the hours you flew that day and bills you at the rate you had selected so you start the new plan at 0hrs.

i never trust the notification pages… they’re bugged to hell and just spew nonsense. i only go by the charts u can load on demand.

in a flight so cant get to charts to easily but, ya tehe charts show a clear dip, the UI I thik is bugged saying the cargo company without a plane is losing money but its still a clear loss, i’m basically resetting to 0 every day. One of my problems I think is the system let me sell the plane of an active company without me buyin ga new one so its having a bit of a ‘wtf moment’ with the company that has no plane.

I am seeing this also but I’m starting to think this was a stealth nerf on the backend and not a bug. Really unfortunate. Just shows that all the brutal punishments are intentional for… future reasons.

Right… I have “good” news. Disabling crew option does stop the passive income. I did that yesterday morning for all my three planes and this morning the passive income was 0cr. Excellent!

However, this doesn’t seem to stop the ever-increasing insurance bill. This morning it was 210k for the two companies i have. Making some quick calculations based on the hourly rate of the premium plan, I should have been flying 12+ hours yesterday… funny I can’t remember doing that.

Anyway, I’m back to 0 cr… at least the system is consistent.

Yesterday, to test whether my own flying with company planes was loss making, I didn’t fly at all with them. No Freelancer missions, that is. Instead, I only flew Employee missions. But this morning I was still charged the exact same amount for the insurance for my two companies as the previous day and I was back to 0 cr:

I opened a separate bug report for the insurance: Insurance draining money to 0 cr each day

i now have 3 companies/planes all with crew and located at winter hotspots… still no passive income on them for the last 2 days

This part of the Career Mode doesn’t work. Do NOT have any unused aircraft in your possession or the insurance bills will eat up all your money. Sell everything and always have just one plane you fly yourself. All the other features aren’t working properly.

The thing that makes this system rage inducing when it doesn’t work is that it is completely hidden from the player. There is zero progress screen or current state screen, or a screen starting what the server thinks will happen based on how you set things. Nothing. It is entirely hidden from the player. I believe it was because this was not tested and they knew it was buggy, and had a lot of issues, and didn’t want to advertise it to players so easily.

If said screen existed we could say “see look here, this is broken and should not be tracked like this”. Now we have to wait 24 hours at a time and be like “it didn’t work for me, I have no idea why because I have no idea what the server thinks”.

Maybe it’s just because I always have bought the basic insurance since the beginning but I am making good money on my passive income even after insurance.

Well, at least with the latest update it’s more transparent about the insurance bill, even though I flew 0 hours on any of my planes:

Not sure, but looking at the figures from most peoples posts, the passive income is working fine.

The problem is the insurance bug just wipes it out.

So as an example, you get passive income of 40k
The insurance bill bug causes a deficit of 100k
Your Passive Income Pay now reports as a loss of 60k.

Here is the issue: The game doesn’t take into account the flight hours of a given day, it takes into account all flight hours of an aircraft. If you don’t fly, the next day you’ll still pay the previous insurance, because it’s calculated by all flight hours done, ever. If you fly more, then the next day it will get added too, and you pay even more. You can’t win. After a while you won’t be able to do enough missions in a day to earn enough money to pay the insurance.

So the insurance can only go up day by day, and it stays there if you don’t fly. But if you don’t fly you don’t earn money. Either way we’re all screwed. The only outcome is infinite debt in Career Mode.

Even worse, you can’t sell all your aircraft. If you want to sell the last remaining aircraft you get an error message.

I think the only remaining option is to deliberately crash the aircraft to “lose” it and remove from your fleet. This way maybe the insurance cost goes away, too. I will probably try it because I won’t wait for all my money to disappear.
