Pause Button

Flying the A320 @FL290 GMMX - DAAG.

Half way through flight I hit the pause button on PC. When unpausing, the aircraft entered steep descent
speed fluctuated wildly and heading not maintained as per flight plan. Happened twice so far.Looks like it will be better to save flight and return later instead of using pause. Not sure if this happens with other aircraft

Helpful?

That’s an issue with live pause across the board - apparently, you can exploit it to slingshot a 747 off a small runway.

Note that saving the flight might not work too well either. I’m not sure if I did something wrong or what, but when I tried to load a flight earlier, my flight plan was completely gone. Kind of messed up the flight on that one.

So at least for now, the best we can do is “ESC” and Resume? Thanks all for your helpful input in these forums. :0)

No, read the guide linked above - [HOW-TO] How to actually PAUSE the sim!. You can map a key to a full pause/unpause option. It’s not mapped by default. This does the proper pause and not active pause

Perfect. Thank you very much!

I think the active pause can be quite useful in term of working avionics and things like that. When you’re not very familiar with systems it may take time to find the function and do some inputs, so putting active pause in critical phase of flight is a useful technique. BUT, I think current implementation is wrong. The location of the plane is paused, but everything else is happening. I had several occasions when in decend I put active pause to look for my charts and the airframe got destroyed due to overspeed. Or if you set active pause even in level flight in a slight turbulence while autopilot is engaged, this may results is a very bad stall. If the plane is happened to be a bit lower assigned altitude because of turbulence, the autopilot set the pitch trim all the way up to the limit. When you unpause, the plane is stalled, and even then it is not easy to recover, because you have to screw the pitch trim all the way back, and it takes some time. So, in my opinion, the active pause should leave all avionics working, but freeze not only airplanes location, but also speed and controls.

what is the pause key command in MSFS? Can I program the FMC when it is paused?
