#pc I cannot install the game

Hello

Is there a way someone from MSFS or Asobo may reach me to solve my issue, pls?

I have unistalled the game due to cascades of issues and messages and problems updating the last version.

I have already unistall and reinstall the game FOUR times with no avial

I followed all the steps I found inthe forums and I have even tryied to install it through the xbox app and that doesn’t help either.

The safe mode always crashes, there is a constant message of repair needed despite it is a clean install

I really need knowledgeable staff assitance please as I got zero reply from zendesk

Background:
I had my game in Drive D
Set the community folder to empty bedore the update
Run the sim and warmed me I needed to go to Microsoft store. NOTHING was there to download not even the game showed as installed
Did a million things related to MStore
Did a million things to get the X box App
Finally the product showed up
Installed it and before almost finishing it crashed
Finally got installed
Run it and got constant different messages
Then after trying since noon to midnight I decided to uninstall and clicked on C instead of D this time as I though the insistance of the installer in doing in it in C despite I had all in D
Got installed at 5 am just to realized it was installed in C and I had also stuff in D
So I decided to do the clean install
Deleted the game and now it always says it encountered an error
Did the repair, the fix etc
When it opens in safe mode then try to install the mandatory update then when starts the download it crashes again and again and again
I had follow for three days all the steps in this forum and I am desperate and sick of this
Is there any chance you can guide me to install it for the third time to avoid giving it up forever?

Thanks

Why did you install to drive D? if you initially installed to C the installer may be looking at your C drive to deliver packages and content there.

Microsoft Flight Simulator launcher (Approx 1.3GB) will install at the default games and apps installation folder

In my experience it is better to install to:

Microsoft store version

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe

Steam version

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator

of course you can install to any drive if you wish

I have my sim installed on the E: Drive and have had no problems so I don’t think that is the issue :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Hi
I installed it since purchased day 1 on Drive D as it is a 6 Teras one

That’s why I don’t understand why the installer tries to install in C

Thanks

Hi
Noted
It starts but as in safe mode requeing to istall an update, when I click on it, it crashes every single time
It can’t install it but I do see all the stuff in D drive

Thanks

check the user config file. the very last line is the install path. make sure it matches up to the correct drive (C or D).

Hi thank you for your concern
It is not windows starting on safe mode but the game. Despite I click on it and it starts downloading the update it crashes

Right from the application I click uninstall and veridy the folder is C is gone
They I delete everything is D drive just to have it clean again.
The initiall instalation on 2020 was really strange a part in C and in D only the community folder and the official one and everything seems to have been installed with links

Completely, and had updated easily with just a click every single time since Aug 18 2020 until Sept 6 2021

Indeed, because once it opens it sends the message to istall the stardard mandatory update but then crashes after a while installing, It is the same behaviour every time

I understand, unfortunatly I haven’t done any security save so not sure if it will be too wise and if a D drive would be included

I actually had the game installed and updated even the WU6 but when I puted back all third party content I realized it wan not reading detecting that community folder . That was when I saw the game was installed as new in C, and all the old stuff remained the same in D
So I unintalled and deleted every trace to install a clean version but since then I have not been able to install it

I’ve done everything in those pages with no success

But I am suspecting of Microsoft Store due to this behaviour

Here is my account where I purchase the game, you see my picture, I’m looged in. and the product is complete.

If you click on it ( as the instruction says you need to be looged in MS account) it takes me here

If you click on the bottom it takes me here:

As you can see it yet says I’m MS but my picture is no longer displayed
And it says the game is installed!!!
How can it be installed if I am at this very moment installing it for the 5th time?

But this is the worst thing, If I click on Install on my divices where the three dots are it takes me here, stating that there is no device linked

If I click on get more info it takes me here:

You see my picture is back. If I click on that and hit againg Microsoft account it desplays a message that there is no device associated.

So I think there might be a problem with MS because I do have the computer linked

I hope I can figured this out at some point
BUT thank you very much for having taken the time to try to help and for your concern

Cheers
Carlos

Yes it is fine
What I canot see is the content.xml that is usually here

I was able to install the game ONLY if I choose drive C

So I have content on drive D and C
But the strange thing is that the space in drive C was not reduced after the install
How can that be?

So much confusion.

FS2020 always install itself to the C:\ (or boot) drive.
1.06 GB or whatever. Small install.

FS2020 then asks you where you want FS2020 tom be installed.
You can tell it any drive and folder that you want (that you have).
270GB or whatever.

FS2020 always must reside on your C: (or boot) drive
for it to run…

Thank you
Now the turn for the third party add-ons :confounded:

Cheers

This is only true for MS-Store version. The Steam version of course gets always installed into the steam library folder, regardless on which drive it sits (in my case on G)
Only some configuration stuff resides in “C:…\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator”. Only about 150 MB. The remaining ~200GB (with all mods) are located in the steam library under “…\steamapps\common”

The steam version seems to be alot more relexed when it comes to install/update specific topics. The MS-Store stuff seems to be very buggy …

Thanks, I’ll remember to exclude Steam in the future.

Yeap
That I understand
The thing is that the packages I wanted them to be installed on D
On that drive there were only the community and official folders

But now it installed the packages in C

So this is my route from users to the packages content

You see there are a lot of arrows (links) to somewhere
If you go to Local cache then you find the packages folder there

If you click on it you get the community and oficial

And inside the official all the content

But I yet have those two folders in D

Before this update the oficial folder in C was empty and the one in D full

Now the one in C is full and I wonder if I have to delete the files in D as the sim is not “reading” the content within this drive now

I prefer to install the packages in D due to size, I have a 6 teras disc while C is just 2 teras

But I’m a bit worried on how to proceed with the data on D

Cheers

Hi this happened because you didn’t pay attention to the path where the update got installed… :grimacing: So if you didn’t point to your D: drive, it installed by default so on C: :smirk:

(Check your User Cfg.opt file in your C drive: see what path it points to)

Hi
Yes I noticed that
But every single time I changed it to D it failed to install.

I uninstalled and reinstalled 6 times until I gave up and then agreed and accepted the C drive and then it finally installed.

But since day 1 had the community and ofical foldes in D drive. After this update it was impossible for the installer to accept drive D

Only when I chose C it managed to end.

I am currently instaling previous world updates and they are indeed consuming space in C drive which I don’t want, so this installation must be removed and try again the split one but I’m tired of that.
6 times already

I wonder if I should format D drive before trying again because there are some folders that can’t be erased at all

folders

Thanks

See where your UserCfg.opt file says your Installed Packages is stored.

  1. If it says C:\ something,
go to D: and delete everything associated with FS2020.
Note: Only if it says C:\
  2. Go Win 10, Settings, Apps and scroll down to MS Flight Simulator
    Click “Move”
  3. Tell it where you want it on the D: drive.
It is a little strange. Initially iit will only accept the drive, D:.
It will then ask for a directory (can’t remember exactly)

NOTE: I have MS Store
Your WpSystem folder is FS2020. Delete it.
You have Addons Linker. I don’t use it and do not know if it affects
my instructions. I don’t use it.

Hi
Thanks, yes I am 100% sure it is pointing to Drive C

Proceeding

Will revert shortly

Cheers

@MSFSRonS
Yes MSFSRonS but remember the problem that may occur with the access path too long… :smirk:

@Acuario9383
Yes, you should have Format as there may be bad registry keys or corrupted hidden files, so yes that’s better. :smirk:
