DETAIL
M’M have been slow to improve, in my opinion, but they seem committed to keeping their products up-to-date, with this latest scenery already having been updated twice since release.
The detail is really nice, with their texture work now showing real signs of improvement… in places. Some of the textures are still a little below par but it’s generally of a fairly high standard here, with the more bland examples mostly being confined to the terminal interior (which is decent, though nothing spectacular).
The terminal’s exterior looks great, particularly at night. The custom jetways look good, too, and there’s some nice fixed clutter in their immediate vicinity. Mobile clutter (i.e. GSE) on the ramp is a bit lacking, and what there is is mostly comprised of default assets. It’s nowhere near a deal-breaker but I’d like to see a bit more, even if it were just Asobo stuff.
The landside is the most impressive I’ve yet seen from M’M, featuring a LOT of custom detail that extends quite a way back from the airport proper — and rather pleasingly, it’s mostly been done to the same standard as what’s airside. I think this is the first M’M scenery in which I’ve seen high-quality custom vehicles, but you don’t have to move far into the peripheries to spot a few default examples. Still, quality where it matters most. While I’m on the subject of M’M firsts and vehicles, we now get animated apron traffic, and while it’s not as good as that from the likes of Pyreegue and Jo Erlend Sund, it’s nonetheless great to see.
They’ve used some quite decent custom vegetation around the landside areas, but the LOD’ing makes a lot of it look worse from distance than up close. It’s a bit repetitive and spindly when viewed from afar. Speaking of LOD, it seems needlessly aggressive across the entire airfield, when you consider that this isn’t a large or particularly demanding scenery.
Moving back airside, ground textures are good but nothing that’ll blow you away. They’re average; in fact, slightly blurry in places. There’s really not a lot of wear-and-tear or weathering, but it somehow all looks okay. The grassy airside areas are much better — I suspect they’ve subtly used a custom ortho as I doubt it’s something REX AccuSeason is doing. What I will praise is the airfield signage, which is about as good as you can get.
PERFORMANCE
This has typically been an area in which M’M have rarely excelled, so perhaps the overly-aggressive LOD mentioned above is their way of lightening the load on our machines. Regardless of whether or not it’s the LOD, performance for me is fantastic — but I would expect that to be the case at a small, regional airport.
VERDICT
It’s taken a long time for M’M to shine but they’re starting to produce stuff that demonstrates some talent. Overall, the airport and its surroundings look fantastic; as do the numerous custom animations across the airport. The landside is of particular note, not only being their best so far but also holding its own against some of the very best in 2024. If I HAD to pick fault with the landside, I’d say it could probably benefit from a little more life (people, a few more cars at the terminal entrance, etc.) but it’s certainly a big improvement over what they were doing 12 months ago.
Texture-wise, they’re not quite there yet but each release sees incremental improvements. The majority of the work here is more than acceptable, although you will find a few areas of mediocrity if you go looking. But certainly from the flighdeck of your airliner, things look very nice indeed!
In spite of the flaws, I thoroughly recommend M’M’s EDDG. On the whole it looks great, and they’ve modelled far, far more than just the airport and its terminal. It’s not in a PG area (yet), unfortunately, but it is only a very short hop from most German airports, including EDDF and EDDM. I’ve not had the scenery long but have really enjoyed flying the CRJ and 319/321 into here.
