I wonder what’s the point of implementing the option to skip the flying part of a mission in a flight simulator. I could understand it in a game where flying is secondary, but not in Flight Simulator, reducing everything to just takeoffs and landings. Of course, everyone is free to skip it or not, but I think there should be some sort of bonus for completing the full flight or a penalty for skipping it.
I’m going to be a pedant and say it isn’t actually a punishment for skipping, you are just rewarded for not skipping. I think that is a small but important distinction.
I mean, isn’t that exactly what it is.
Don’t skip and you are given a bonus
Skip and have the bonus reduced greatly (penalty)
No. That doesn’t count as a penalty. That counts as less of a gain. A penalty would be having your base wage reduced. Which is not what is happening. You are getting the same base wage whether you skip or not. You are getting additional money if you don’t skip.
Let’s look at it from a slightly different way.
When you fly a mission I give you a slice of pizza. You get the same size slice if you don’t use skip as if you do use skip. If you don’t use skip I give you a free drink too. Does that mean you are penalized for using skip? I didn’t take anything from you.
The very definition of a penalty implies the receiver did something wrong. You didn’t do anything wrong by skipping. It is allowed. You are just rewarded for not skipping.
Penalty
noun
- a punishment imposed for breaking a law, rule, or contract:
“the charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years’ imprisonment”
- a disadvantage or unpleasant experience suffered as the result of an action or circumstance:
“the cold never leaves my bones these days—one of the penalties of age”
- (in sports and games) a disadvantage or handicap imposed on a player or team, typically for infringement of rules.
- a kick or shot awarded to a team because of a serious infringement of the rules by an opponent:
“a penalty corner”
- bridge - points won by the defenders when a declarer fails to make the contract.
Another one who wants to make things worse for others… Just play your game and don’t look at others. This is not a multiplayer game.
There is currently a bug where skipping does affect your base mission payout. So you are punished atm. If and when they fix that, I would agree with you.
As to removing skipping, considering they have an internal bug ticket for removing sim rate in career, the logical expectation if they did this would be for everyone to fly every flight in real time. That is an absurd concept considering how long some flights are and how little time most people have to dedicate towards gaming, even a flight simulator. Most people have jobs, and/or a family, or other life obligations.
An important point, too, is that the base reward is agreed upon when you accept the flight. If it’s not worth it, don’t fly it. I don’t think there should be a penalty for skipping at all - at minimum you get what was agreed upon.
But I don’t mind a reasonable bonus for not skipping - there’s something to be said for doing pilot things during cruise, especially if there’s adverse weather. But the BIG thing missing in that regard is traffic. Start adding traffic and all the ATC stuff that goes with it and it changes the effect of skipping. I don’t see why folks who choose to engage in that manner, including whatever possible future state, shouldn’t get a bump. Just keep it optional.
I rarely skip so I want aware of that bug. The few times I have slipped, I didn’t see any loss of base pay. I dug through the bug reports and found the thread about the bug.
If anyone else is experiencing the bug then please vote on and report in the thread.
Oh please. That’s the only remedy, if only partial, for those who don’t want a career, don’t want to fly numbing, boring irritating missions in an aircraft they are not interested in, just to be able to fly missions.

Sorry but no. I fly a 23000 Cr mission. I fly full up to cruise and then i skip to descend, no point in looking at the screen for 8 hours in Autopilot. I receive less than 3000Cr.
If I suck it up and fly the whole 8 hours, i get 20000+. did not get the 23000because i missed a couple of ATC calls, during 8 Hours You will have to make WC Stops and eat and drink.
So, definately You get penaltys. And it sucks. And it is a game, no point in boring the player to death.
Nope, the number of credits you are promised for completing each mission is listed before each mission. Reducing pay by 90% because you skipped an hour of doing nothing is DEFINITELY a punishment. There are no two ways about it. Doing nothing for an hour shouldn’t result in a 90%+ pay hike. This makes the game too grindy. You can literally put the game on in the background while you go and do other stuff for that hour. It’s ridiculous that anyone, including you would even suggest that this is somehow a “reward”. It isn’t.
