Performance Degradation with 1.14.5.0. Upgrade

Idem for me, above sea or desert, FPS down (with and without any mods)

1.13.17.0 → 26 FPS in VR Limited by mainthread, yellow graph
1.14.5.0 → 19 FPS in VR Limited by mainthread, red graph

Something definitely happened, wish we could revert…

I also want to add that it is related to some map coordinates. I have identified a patch of grass around San Diego where it happens 100% of the time, no matter the aircraft or high/low settings. It somehow has to do with where you are. Notice that this patch of grass has near ZERO complexity/photometry. I tried lowering my LOD to near zero and still happens. All settings to LOW and still happens… I will fly at 80 fps even and drops to 40 fps but unflyable as it is stuttery even at such high FPS count…

I am flying Nanwalek in Alaska which is a place I never see this yet… it is like traveling in time to the first releases of MSFS before they degraded it badly. Fly there guys and get some peaceful flying while this is fixed,

This needs fix NOW. It is breaking us all.

Running mostly on one Logical Processor is the problem! That is why people with powerful CPUs & GPUs also have problems.

This sim cannot run on a single Logical Processor. Prior to SIM3, the game was using mostly 4 Logical Processor, which was still a bottle neck. They need to modify their code to take advantage of all Logical Processor as best as possible.

There may still need to be a single thread orchestrating the entire process, but that thread needs to use all Logical processor to it’s advantage.

But only running mostly on one Logical Processor is what is bring the sim to it’s knees.

MS and Asobo have admitted that there are a few bugs and a possible Hotfix.

ok can anyone please test this aswell:
rolling cache at 25gb
start FS2020, fly until the FPS drops happen, or if it occures in the main menue allready, stay there, open up your network connection disable it for a few seconds and enable it again…

I did the same. Terrain down to 80 from 200. Used 200 since the release of the sim.

Big improvement to run at 80. At times the CPU usage spikes high and the GPU usage comes down but does not affect the FPS much.

Hoping for a hotfix.

I think the Terrain level of detail at 25 is equal to go back to FSX

I just made some test trying to find out when exactly the statteting appears.First and foremost it’s completely irrelevant with the settings and community folder status in any way.Maxed out or at minimums and community folder completely empty or full of mods/add-ons don’t change a thing.

It’s exactly the same at low altitudes as well as high up.
It’s irrelevant if you are in the cockpit, the external cam or the drone cam.
It’s also completely irrelevant what terrain type you fly over.No matter if it’s a complex one or just countryside. It’s the same everywhere.
It’s slightly present on the World Map too (during zoom-in & zoom-out) but not so prominent.
It don’t depends on how much time you are in a flight, however - and this is the most strange - is highly depends on WHERE you are over the terrain! It’s like there are certain ā€œareasā€ where the stattering starts.Entering that area and here it is,from 60FPS (limited by GPU) down to 15-20 (limited by Main Thread). Upon exiting the stattering area it goes away and everything returns to normal.Return back inside the same area and here it comes again. It’s like there’s some kind of boundaries all over the world where the problem arise while just outside that area nothing strange happens.
It seems there are at least 2 kinds of that ā€œstattering areasā€,the one producing the heavy ones where the sim becomes totally unplayable and another one without so prominent statters however if you look closely you can say it’s there compared with the smoothness of the 55-60 FPS.

Most likely there’s something on terrain messes up with our CPU otherwise there wouldn’t be the indication ā€œLimited By Main Threadā€ when it happens.

Same here. Performance is very bad when it used to be butter smooth before last update. I’m hoping for a quick fix

Just booted my pc and right of the bat 30fps in the menus of the sim??

Are you sure ? I will try as soon as possible. Thanks a lot

This is exactly it. It’s easily replicated. It’s over most airports but also randomly over baron auto-gen terrain. Frames usually get cut in half..then eventually as you fly out of the affected area, the sim will go back to ā€˜normal’. It’s a clear issue and I really hope we hear something soon. It’s a game breaker for me

I just tried turn off Multiplayer and Live air traffic data on Data page… reload the sim and whole flight was much much more smoother.

I have the same problem after the update.
Specs. I9 10900k and asus rtx3090 oc. 32gb 3600mhz.

After the last msfs update stutters at fixed positions. 1 is near the opa Loka airField Miami US.

Take off to the east. Turning right to the east (coastline) after a couple of minutes I get stutters (around 22 frames). Continued the flight and at some point (closer to the coast) frames recover to 40. Turning back to airfield and stutters are back at the same position. I did not have this issue before the update and have not changed a thing on the system. Only change is MSFS and windows update. Settings for flight; Real weather (a bit of high clouds) and the TBM as plane. I tried every thing (turning of online scenery etc) no solution. Also a reboot of the pc does not help. When starting sim after the reboot and start at the same position the issue is back at the same position.

Can someone clarify this position (opa Loka Miami) for stutters please. Just to make sure i’m not going nuts…

This is what’s been happening to me since WU3, so before SU3, the GPU drops and the CPU rises whilst I get long stutters & stalls which render the Sim unplayable (using VR).

  • This did not happen prior to WU3
  • My nVidia Drivers have not changed
  • There have been some minor Windows 10 Updates but this started happening before any of them

32gb DDR4 here same issues

I have same problem, dramatic drop in perfomance 60-80% CPU on 3 cores, and bad FPS on Core i9-10900K, 64gb RAM, and Gforce3090, on win 64bit 20H2:-(

Hoping soon to be taken back to that glorious afternoon after the UK update, when MSFS was running like a dream. It was too good to last.
