For me aswell huge degradation regarding performance!
From almost 58 fps with tbm down to 20-25 fps and a stuttery mess mostly on ground (taxiing, taking off). My system 10900K 3090, 32 gigs of RAM. UK Update was killing my fps and the latest patch/sim uodate destroyed it all now. Sry, but this is not acceptable @AsoboPM
With xplane 60 fps in all situations and really smooth experience on ground. Miss the smoothness on ground in MSFS torally and stable 50 fps (vsync custom settings slider is missing too)
Sorry to say, they failed momentarily with their 2 last updates, sorry to say. Hope they get it fixed soon / performance wise and not in 1 or 2 months. Cannot understand why they do not implement DX12 earlier than summer and DLSS 2.1. especially for the airliners coming, seriously. In this state no joy to use this sim.
A great sim in terms of visuals, but yeah performance wise- horrible and flight dynamics has to be also a bit much more improved.
Throwing my experience in - i7 9700K 4.9ghz 32GB DDR4 RAM RTX 2080 after the recent sim update my performance has been terrible - Iām about to load in with an empty community folder to see if that helps but by the sounds of it that wont work and we will need a fix from Asobo. Getting bit tired of new updates ruining the sim only for us to have to wait for a fix - this really should be a hotfix rather than it coming in the next update.
Anyway Iām going to try a few more things but after seeing everyone else here having the same issue and seeing some videos which looked the same as what Iām getting - I think thereās no point in trying fixes stated here.
Hope itās sorted soon.
Oh and yeah my performance before the recent update was fine, in fact Iāve had great performance ever since release but this has really ruined it, even the UK update was fine for me.
Under the in-game menu option for Data, scroll down. Delete the cache first and then some users have had limited success with turning it back on and increasing the size to say 32GB. That seems to temporarily fix the performance drop but some have seen it return to terrible performance after flying for a while. It fixed my performance drop right away, but I havenāt flown for more than maybe 1 hour after that to test it on longer flights or in new areas.
So far i tried quite a lot to reproduce this issuem, the only thing that reliably yielded results of dropping FPS was to increase the sim rate. Besides the random FPS drop, this could mean that the graphic streaming either in-engine or the content streaming via the network, canāt deliver the demand, so the CPU/GPU starts idling.
You are right, a PC is no Xbox nor PS. It usually isnāt compromised hardware chosen 2 years before product launch and squeezed into a shoebox where the components will overheat and choke on dust and the optical drive absolutely will die within 2 years. A PC is also not hamstrung by having to use the exact same hardware throughout its (4 or 5 year) product life with no option to upgrade.
Yes, this sim is āmainstreamā compared to the traditional sim experience, yes there are probably a few who are trying to get this to work on dated or budget tier hardware but there are many hardcore simmers here who know these limitations and are running high end kit and still experiencing massive performance issues and posting about it. (indeed these appear to the majority)
How many posting in this forum are complaining that this game does not run well on their Sandybridge or Celeron? (few if any) I donāt even think I have seen anybody on the Ivybridge architecture.
Most Intel users appear to be on Coffee Lake or newer.
This isnāt about people who a struggling with getitng their PC to turn on. Many of us posting have a lot of experience with flight/space sim and high end gaming and our rigs are working perfectly fine under all other workloads whether that be other games, cad design or video editing.
I have been building PCās, gaming and using them for high workload tasks for 30 years and this game is the first in literally years (more than 10 years) where I stripped a PC to optimize itās performance because I just couldnāt understand why the performance was degrading from one update to the next or why any settings tweaks did not make any difference. My present rig is not 100% cutting edge by any means but it handles any other task I throw at it without breaking sweat.
I mean Iām not glad of the stuttering but glad itās not just me - hard to create any videos for my YT channel with it being like this. Some locations Iāve found are actually okay but its mostly terrible.
The strange part is, that in some case as here, the stutter/slow down is not present right from the start of the sim but only happens reproducible at very specific coordinates/waypoints?
And in my case I noticed no memory bottlenecks at all, just CPU load increase and GPU load decrease at the trigger point.
This puzzle still gives no image.
To respond to your other post above.
I am also in the business for a while, building PC since mid nineties by myself, having dual cpu rigs running in 1997 and so on.
What we are used to know are more or less fixed games/software that runs locally on our enclaved computers. Nowadays, with more an more online activtiy we need to change our point of view. Things are constantly changing now. That gives us endless possibilities on this side but also a lot of new āproblemsā to deal with on the other. I took a while for me to understand that ecosystem paradigma. Its a whole new thing at the end, not comparable to an game running localized on an particular PC.
I enjoy this process. I often remember my first gaming experiences in the eighties when I sit with wide open eyes in front of my C64 and looked at the first good parallax side scrollers (name katakis for example) like a thing from another universe. Then came amigas, the first 486/DX50 with 8MB of memory (a 4.000$ monster these daysā¦), doom, heretic, decent, you know the story.
I am very optimistic for the future of gaming. MSFS 2020 is just the beginnig. No time to despair, we all can learn and benefit a lot. Crossing fingers
And i build my own PC also for years ⦠even worked at a store for dedicated flightsims computers ⦠started programming basic on a vic 20 in the 80ās ⦠and been playing flightsims since fs 2.0 and sub logic ATP
One disagree though ⦠a huge part ( majority ) are not ānerdsā like you and me ..lost of them just bought specs and PERHAPS not thinking on how a PC can be effected.
Perhaps someone has a 3090 ⦠but has malware using his GPU to mine bitcoins for someone else. They do not even know but shout that FPS is poor ( stupid example i know )
Thats why i try to explain.
Run a high end spec PC ⦠with Norton antivirus and a few dozen other programs in the background ( because heeee ā¦ā i have a great PC an lots of memory ā) and your FPS can be worse then people with clean lower end PCās
And I realy think al lot of people forget about that in the heat of the moment .
why is the RAM used in this example doubled while running half the fps? Same location (a very few kilometers into the flight) same settings, same plane same PC.
Worse with every update, never before have i purchased a game that get worse with every update. Even the ones in Early Access have devs that would rush and fix a mess like this, and here we have Microsoft and Asobo who cant be bothered.
Chiming in here, same issue. About 20 min into flight CPU usage goes to 86%-100% and FPS goes from 40-50 to 15-20 for about a minute and then is gone, happens every other minute. Running a 3090 Hybrid and a 8086k@5.3Ghz
Same issue here. I can start the game and get 14fps on the map. Restart it and get 178fps.
Same issue in game with sudden crazy drops.
3090, 5800x, Quest 2.
