I think our only hope in getting MSFS issues resolved is if the WT Dev team is working on them.
I’m not aware of them working on anything other than avionics, so I doubt they can assist with this particular problem. You never know, though.
This should have been solved a long time ago. Ridiculous that we have to wait weeks for a fix, if they solve it in the first place in a next update.
Same to me. Noticed higher CPU utilization and bad fps-.
No it is not. It may be all that you choose to do, but there are many more ways to garner attention to what is going on. In my opinion, those other methods should be employed too, but that is a choice to be made by each person.
If you are talking about the rolling cache… Yes I did. Rebuilt it. Didn’t help.
What are these other methods you suggest? I can’t think of anything better than open communication (i.e., forums) and voting.
I did a bit of investigating on my main issue, which seems to be a memory creep along with high main thread usage.
I dropped my terrain LOD down to 80-100 range, this was after a 2hr flight:
Memory usage is fine, single thread load is high. Framerates throughout the flight were pretty smooth.
I put LOD between 120-200 range. This was after about 10min of a flight, backtracking from where I had landed during my lower LOD flight.
CPU usage is still biased to a single thread, but the memory usage is creeping up. My framerate started dropping along with stuttering when terrain details were being loaded in.
It wasn’t to the point of a slide show, but I wasn’t trying to get to the point of having to force close the game.
Mid-flight I lowered LOD back down to 100:
Memory calms down, terrain loading smooths out and frame rates go back up and level off. Though main thread still was high.
Before this issue started, I was able to have LOD at 200 with steady 40-50fps. Main thread would never be this high and memory would be pretty steady.
So makes we wonder if there’s a combination of poor CPU utilization and also a memory leak?
Cheers.
Well lets see. Twitter, YouYube, Email, Discord, Reddit, Postal Mail…
I am saying that the forums are good, but is a limited audience. Just spread the word, or not, it is your choice.
Take off from N43. This is an airport well west of NYC and well enough north of Philadelphia. Fly south. After several minutes you will hit an FPS wall. Turn back north immediately, and it will smooth out again. I have tried every remedy and get the same.
To add: after the UK update, I was experience the best performance out of MSFS in this area - I was busy planning IRL jaunts and that has just come to a halt. Now just patiently waiting for a return back to post-UK update fix.
… and they’re happy with this.
I just took a flight from Santa Monica Airport to the mountains, and it’s like Montreal: Full of rocks that should be trees everywhere (right next to the airport there is plenty already), but there is probably hundred of thousands (if not more) of polygons to calculate for nothing. Rocks and spikes are everywhere in LA.
I understand why I have 24FPS for no apparent reason in some areas, this is ridiculous. I mean, look at this nightmare ![]()
Was it like this before? I mean, during Beta testing etc last year, was it THAT broken already?
I think what you’re seeing is the photogrammetry trees in a photogrammetry area. They’ve always been there for me. Usually the sim trees hide them, but sometimes they’re still visible.
Oh yeah that must be a photogrammetry issue but still, when you see how bad the sim runs, this shouldn’t exist in the first place.
I wouldn’t really call it an issue, it’s just how the photogrammetry is presented from Bing. All photogrammetry of terrain is going to include trees and other vegetation. I’ve worked on porting some photogrammetry into FS and I must say it is extremely difficult to cut vegetation out of a photogrammetry area. I’m not even sure if it can be done procedurally with much success.
Actually I’m going to assume the bigger trees we had in the sim right after launch was their way of trying to cover up the photogrammetry vegetation in those areas.
Everything is on Ultra on my screenshots, this is really bad (performance wise + bad looking).
i just realised that Austria is missing like 80% of what it really is and i am downloading stuff from https://www.flightsim.to/by-country/AT/last-released&page=2
It’s like 10giga for sure
Great work Asobo.I can’t even imagine what else is missing out there
Have had exactly that experience at Corris Corner as well, over two sets of flights through the Mach Loop. Second was on a group flight with my nephew and he hit it at exactly same point.
I also experienced it this weekend in bands along the North coast of Sicily between Barcelona Pozzo di Gotto and San Stefano di Camastra. Every few miles the frame rate would drop away and stuttering take over and then it would recover back to a smooth 40fps and then drop again. Happened four times between those two points.
Also at Syangboche Airstrip north of Lukla and Avon Lane airstrip between Bath and Bristol, UK. Both of those seem to have an approx three mile radius of disruption around them to add to the lists…
