Performance drop 15-20% after World Update 3 (1.13.16.0)

some very inconsistent behavior here too…had it before this version but definitely happens more now.
Especially when going to a new airport, FPS drops to 20-30. Going to main menu and flying again will not improve the performance.
Once restarting the sim and going to the same airport, performance jumps to 40-50 FPS … looks like something is leaking there…

I have the same problem / I lost 30% to 50% of the FPS.

I am flying at 20 to 40 FPS on a Ryzen 9 3950x with an RTX 3090 with tons of ram (64gb)

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and nothing changed

This is very disappointing!

I experience the same (or even worse) performance issues after the recent update.
If it was only for London, I wouldn’t mind just avoiding that area until things get fixed.

I run the sim on a Ryzen 9 3900XT with 32 Gig of RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 TI, PCI 4.0 SSD. Before the update, I did get 35 - 40 FPS flying in my neighbourhood in Southern Bavaria. Now, with exactly the same settings (Ultra at 1440 resolution), I get 25 - 30. Exact same conditions. Same flight, same plane, same weather. Internet speed is always above 100 Mbps.

My GPU load used to be at a constant 98-99% before the update, now it averages between 55 - 70%. VRAM usage hasn’t changed siginificantly. I also experience intermittent drops to 10 - 15 FPS for up to a minute, then the sim recovers to about 25 FPS for the rest of the flight.

Flying over London is a disaster. Taking off at London City in a Cessna 172, FPS start at 25. When I get closer to the city, RAM usage goes berserk all the way up to 31,5 Gig and won’t go down even after leaving the urban area. FPS go down to below 10. Even my Logitech Yoke plugin gets kicked out and I lose control of the plane.

I have tried every single advice from this and other forums, but nothig helps.
This is extremely disappointing since things used to work MUCH better even during the early days after the release. I really hope this is a bug to be fixed soon and not something we have to get used to.
There’s definitely something WRONG with the sim now.

Don’t think that’s the case. Custom made models should be much less taxing than photogrammetry.

I’ve made the point before that NY’s photogrammetry appears to have been processed in a way that London’s hasn’t. That’s very clear in the visuals, and also explains the difference in performance.

I still think the most likely reason London isn’t performing well is that every man and his dog is currently flying over it and and its just putting a lot of strain on the sim data servers. Even before this update came out I always used to find the whole London area and Heathrow were busier with online players than any other city I ever used to regularly fly over. It makes sense that if everyone is flying over the same area its going to put strain on things.

PG does definitely vary in quality though regardless.

I’ve actually bumped my settings up from High-End to Ultra after the last update. Seems to work slightly more consistently smoothly than before. I do get below 30fps in some big cities especially, but serious stutters are mostly limited to problematic areas like Los Angeles that have huge data sets of scenery objects to load and discard as you fly. The V-Sync mode works better now when locked to 30fps as well (IMHO there’s not much point rendering the occasional frames above 30fps when my lower limit is below anyway)

Before this latest update the sim was buttery-smooth at around 40 fps at moderate to high-end settings. I was quite content with performance and was having a blast flying. And truthfully, this is by far the worst performance I’ve experienced with MSFS since shortly after public release way back in August. It really doesn’t make sense to me how performance can drop off so badly for some people, yet improve for others. So, right now I’m getting my kicks in XP, and believe it or not, what I miss most is the ATC from MSFS. X-Plane doesn’t have the eye candy either, but at least most of the airports look better and it follows a flight plan properly.

Opening the VFR map and moving it’s focus away from my location fixes this issue for me, and I’m someone experiencing these 20 or more FPS drops everywhere, not just London. I’m suddenly remembering there was a VFR map issue after an update back in the fall, as well. A bug that caused crashes when opening the map.

Mine also drops suddenly to only 30% and then back up to 100%… happens all 1-2 Minutes

I’ve noticed that it’s better if you look in front of the aircraft or to the right: NEVER EVER look through the left window. :alien:

The crazy thing is that it is true. I’ve just completed a Cessna 172 London tour at 1000 feet ASL, looking only in front of me or to the right, and I’ve had a smooth flight like my first ones with FS2020.

This lag problem simply ruins the game, well not completely; I hope they fix it.

Happening here as well but its not happening with every flight.Mine seems to happen with large photogrammetry areas.

I posted this in another thread:

An observation. While flying low and slow, I noticed that trees are both being generated via photogrammetry and as rendered trees. There are a ton of trees that don’t need to be rendered twice. Also parked cars are being rendered via photogrammetry also.

I have not seen this in other photogrammetry cities, so I am wondering with just a bit a clean up along the streets, if we would not start seeing a big performance boost.

Complaints about the awful blurry scenery textures all along…since Japan update…now they are much better if you guys notice…like they were in the release version…of course the framerates will drop. I noticed, but that’s the way it is with clear scenery. Check out the building textures now, can’t tell me they aren’t clearer.

I’ve taken quite a dive as well on a 3800X/6900XT. From the low 40s (e.g. 42 average) to low 30s (33 average) at 4k ultra.

Same guys on a 3090 rog strix , 10900k - 4.9ghz, 64gb 3600mhz corsair dominator RAM (5120x1440p Ultrawide) - alot of the time it’s fine and doesn’t do it either. Its been quite mad actually. Never had these sudden frame drops. Doesn’t seem to be doing it in photogrammetry areas either just randomly. I did a flight from Ahmedabad to cairo, 7 hours didn’t do it once. I guess it’s a rendering issue, something I can endure for now thanks to the amount of joy the sim gives me.

15 to 20%? I wish it was that small. This is the worst performance since release day. It’s usually fine when I start out, but after flying for about 10 minutes, my frame rate suddenly drops from near 60 fps, down into single digits! It’s an instantaneous change, and it stays in the single digits for 3 to 5 minutes before suddenly shooting back up to 50~60 fps again. 10 minutes later, same BS happens again, but sometimes the poor frame rate lasts longer than 5 minutes.

Tonight I was flying into KHMP, Hampton, GA and everything was going pretty good as I started my decent towards the airport, but as I was on final, just a few miles from the runway… BOOM… the frame rate took another giant ■■■■ and instantly dropped below 10 fps. IMPOSSIBLE to land like that, so I had to do a go-around. I circled the area for about 30 minutes, but the fps never recovered, staying around 10~12 fps, so I gave up and just quit the sim entirely.

Why is every update one step forward and three steps back??

It didn’t worked for me :frowning:

ive also got 10900k and 3080 and my stutters now become a second or two then freeze then BOOM crash to desktop

Thank you @moxiejeff and Chris blackwell. Don’t know if it’s the full screen optimization or one of the other things but my performance is back to what it used to be. I have GTX 1060 and getting steady 35fps in mid-air. The world map is moving smoothly again with no stutters. Thank you!

Same for me too.
It’s driving me crazy, absolutely gutted.

I have never had any issues with MSFS, running a top end PC with 35-55fps no matter where I fly on Ultra settings.

Since the UK update, I too have the exact same issues.
Flying normally and then a few minutes in, bang, drops suddenly to 15-18 but a stuttering unplayable mess.
