Performance Loss with SU14

Did my first flight with SU14 today and had two times a freezing screen, the second one did not recover. The problem was MSFS filled up all of my 32 GB RAM, as I freeed some memory it was immediately filled up by MSFS again. Never had that issue before so it seems like we have some very greedy new threads within SU14 or there was a mem leak introduced?

Did not have any CTDs since months it was very stable and now first flight with SU14 this happens

Yup, performance issues since SU14. About 10-20% less frames, my system is not GPU-limited anymore but CPU-limited now (which shouldnā€™t be the case with my system specs). Before SU14, my GPU was constantly at 100% (so it was probably GPU limited), now itā€™s underutilizied (50-70%). Seems like there is a lot more CPU-usage right now, which bottles the performance.

Ryzen 5 5600X
GTX1060 6GB
16 GB RAM

Medium settings.

About 7 to 8 fps loss here. And during every flight it freezes for several seconds. I feared this update. Su13 was so stable and fine. Just frustrating as always. Only software i know of that makes me fear updates.

I too lost around 5-10 fps with this update on my 4090. I hope asobo acknowledges this issue quicklyā€¦ they should NOT put updates mandatory if we are flying solo and not online multiplayer.

Same here. I9 13900ks + 4090. And Iā€™m a resident of stuttertown againā€¦
I hope that theyā€™ve at least learned their lessons for 2024 by now ā€¦

Do you all have the problem of CPU/GPU limitis? Mine is totally bored while playing MSFS (CPU max. ~ 30% and GPU max. 50% utilized). As described I monitored the RAM to be the problem in this case.

Iā€™ve found the sim to usually perform a little worse in the days after a Sim Update but then come good again. It must be the server impact of SU 14 being downloaded by everyone. Might be worth waiting a bit and then reassessing.

performance issues were never a secret during beta

next SU betaā€¦when? :joy:

That maybe explanes PG looking really bad in some areas? Or are those different servers?

Iā€™m also using RTX 4090 along with 7950x3D if this helps, one of those ppl who lost about 10-13 FPS.

I highly doubt this will work, but I am completely deleting MSFS and re-installing itā€¦ Will let you know if it worked

Are these real FPS or frame generated FPS?

Have you disabled/removed all your mods and add-ons?

Yes

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

No

Brief description of the issue:

The sim freezes after a few hours, and at that point my ā€œShared GPU memoryā€ (Which is RAM available to the GPU) is full, which should never happen especially since i have 16GB VRAM, which was also almost full.

PC specs and/or peripheral set up:

Intel 11900K, 32GB RAM, RTX4080

Now i was just sitting in the main menu for about an hour, and it froze again. This time i got the graphics error popup with ā€œDXGI_ERROR_INVALID_CALL (0x887a0001)ā€.

The shared GPU memory was full again.

Itā€™s a major memory leak.

Here i just started the sim, in the main menu the GPU memory usage is already 6GB

This is after about 5 minutes in the main menu:

Now the Shared GPU memory is filling up after about 20 minutes. This is still in the main menu.

MSFS is now using 17GB of RAM:

The freeze comes as soon as the Shared GPU memory is full.
In a flight it seems to take much longer for this to happen. A couple of hours sometimes in my case.

This is a perfect explanation of the major memory error MSFS has had during more than 1 year. Everyone can now understand the problem easily. Memory was never released properly, nor during flight, nor after returning to main menu after a flight and thanks to your explanation itĀ“s clear also that nor even at main menu itself.

Cheers

I donā€™t think this was an issue with SU13! I have the same problem with SU14B and DX11!

Iā€™m using SU14 Beta, The PMDG 737ā€™s movement and sound are normal on long flights over 8 hours, but all instruments in the cockpit have stopped and cannot proceed

Iā€™ve had CTD symptoms since SU13, but I donā€™t know when these symptoms will disappear There is no sign of improvement at all

Hi @BragRaindrop933,

Nice to see run into you here again

Iā€™m using steam FPS counter, so thatā€™s always where Iā€™m checking, since the in game FPS counter canā€™t go above some limit as far as I now. Itā€™s with DX12 along with frame generation. To be honest I wouldnā€™t mind because even after some performance reduction my sim still runs quite well and often above 60 FPS, but whatā€™s affecting me slightly could affect the others severely. Thatā€™s why I think itā€™s worth to investigate what could have been the reason for the FPS drop which people are also experiencing.
