Performance with RTX 4070 Ti Super and 5800X3D

Thanks for the reply, the videos from above posts say exactly that. Also, buildings also seem to have a massive impact on the CPU.

From the video I posted. Buildings are Medium. Major performance hit on Ultra.

I have the same GPU/CPU setup. The most significant advantage of the 4070 Ti Super is the extra VRAM. My 3080 10GB was hitting its limit at most third-party airports, but now I have plenty of VRAM to spare. Another major advantage is FG, which makes the MSFS much more fluid.

One thing you have to be aware of is CPU-bound settings like TLOD, which can cause stuttering. I usually keep my settings at 150, which works the best. Anything over 200, and I experience stutters.

The GPU is here! The screenshot is with default settings, I was surprised to see only ~30% GPU usage. It’s tweaking time!

I have the 5800X3D with a RTX3080 and am very interested in your experience with the 4070Ti Super. Please also share the load under more heavy circumstances like a major airport with AI traffic and cloud coverage. I am using the RTX3080 with 3x 65" tv’s each set at 3840 × 2160 resolution.

Here you go. Flying around LAX, with the weather set to overcast and max AI traffic settings.

I’m simply not able to hit the FPS from the original video I posted. In the video, it’s around 140 FPS, and I am getting ~70 with identical settings. Seems like my GPU is under-utilized for some reason, the usage is only ~40%.

Are you using frame gen? I see it’s off in the last pic.
And 1440P is more CPU limited. Not as much as 1080P, but less than 4K.
A 4K monitor running the sim in 4K would definitely increase your GPU usage.

The reason I ask is because, with frame gen on, Dev mode → Debug → Display FPS would show 70 FPS, and another display like ‘nVidia Performance Overlay’ would show 140 FPS (your frame doubled rate.)

You probably already know that, so forgive me if I’m being redundant.

Yeah I forgot to mention, I did enable frame gen (after enabling hardware accelerated scheduling in Windows). And I also used nvidia’s overlay as my FPS counter. But the FPS count just doesn’t match the video (the 1440p section at 6:26).
I then fired up CS2 and GPU usage was at a constant 90%, so I don’t think it’s a GPU related issue. I’ll do some tests with Cyberpunk now.
And you’re not being redundant!

Alright, I managed to improve things with the following settings:
Resolution: 3840x2160 (2K monitor)
AA: DLSS
DLSS SUPER RESOLUTION: Quality
V-Sync and frame generation: Off
Global rendering: I’ve first set it to Ultra, and then I lowered TLOD and OLOD to 100 and set Buildings to High
Now I am getting 60 FPS with GPU usage at 70%

Definitely looking better!

Excellent latency number. I’m usually right at 12 ms. Best I’ve seen is 11 ms.

Yeah, it’s not bad. I have yet to test some less demanding areas, this was around Manhattan (spawned in the air). I’ve also decided not to enable frame gen, as it looks weird in the video. Straight lines appear to be jagged, and that’s a no-no for me.

EDIT: tested when flying above a desert. I’m pretty sure I’m done with experimenting, as I’m very satisfied with the results. The GPU is finally being utilised to its full potential, 98% usage!

For some reason the Render Latency metric got changed to Average PC Latency, but I can still check Render Latency in the overlay

I also did some regular flights (less demanding 3D cities and airports), and under those conditions I get ~80 FPS.

Thanks for the extra info. The RTX4070 Ti Super is tempting. Let’s see if I manage to hold myself off until MSFS2024 is released…

No worries! Personally, the only reason why I upgraded is becasue I had a 2060 Super. It served me more than well, but it was the only piece that I didn’t upgrade since I first assembled my rig. The 4070 Ti Super is really something else, and I don’t regret a single cent!

I just got my 4070ti super a week ago and I was very pleased with the results. I had a 3070 ti before and the 4070ti super blows it away…

i still think you can squeeze more FPS out of that card! have you tried turning up the render scaling to put more load on your GPU? and try TAA … i am getting right now in cruise in the Fenix A320 mid 60’s FPS with almost max GPU usage and i only still have a 3080 tuf gaming 10GB card paired with the 5800x3D

That wouldn’t increase frame rates. Putting more load on GPU necessarily means the frame rate it can spit out will be reduced. In CPU limited situations, it’s suggested to reduce the CPU load or up the GPU load to become GPU limited and reduce stutters and have a smoother experience, not to increase frame rates.

I just put mine in, on the first flight it was amazing! You will be more than happy. Dlss on performance. I will have to do a few adjustments, but 70 fps to start with, Ii am sure there will be more. Running maxed out. Probobly could dial it back a little. Everything is really crisp. I run 3 screens at 1080(cause Im to cheap to go up) Have Fun!!!

Hi, what processor are you using? I only seem to be able to get 20-30 fps on the ground (I also have the 4070ti Super) so wonder what you’re doing differently. Also, what settings are you using for Terrain / Object Level of detail? Any guidance appreciated!

Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Quest 3 VR with Virtual Desktop XR, TAA, TLOD 100 OLOD 150, most MSFS parameters HIGH some Ultra
