It seems like more and more devs are going marketplace only.
I don’t blame them for that. But Asobo needs to get off their high horse and decrypt ALL marketplace aircraft. The explanation that it’s to “prevent cheating” is prima facie ridiculous.
I think we all remember how long we had to wait for the first planes in 2020. I was so happy when AT-Sim released the Piaggio P.149… so happy in fact, I came oh-so-close to buying a real one (engine turned out to be shot… $70K rebuild, essentially the value of the plane at the time. I just couldn’t take that on).
Interesting we’re talking about another Piaggio here! lol!
Regarding encryption, it also has to do with Xbox security, and they’re also trying to alleviate piracy to an extent. Also, it seems many authors appreciate not having users modify their planes (don’t ask me why, please, it’s just a fact), or “steal their technology”. Many authors like the fact that they might have exclusive features, at least for a time. User modifications? Thin skins perhaps?
I’m not apologizing for them, I wish all planes were unencrypted. We’ve gotten some amazing updates to planes over the years that were just “crop” without the upgrades. Just stating some of the other reasons.
Okay, but don’t buy it on 2020 thinking you can just move it over.
In my experience with products released on 2020 after 2024 shipped (Top Mach T-7A Red Hawk and the KSC scenery):
- They do not appear in your content list under 2024. The Red Hawk has been available since late December and it doesn’t show up. The KSC scenery for over a month. Even if the product is MS24 compatible according to the dev, they have to go through a process at MS before they show up in your content list. And MS so far hasn’t processed any post-2024-release products that I’ve seen.
- Manually copying the files from FS2020 to the corresponding folder for FS2024 does not make the product available in your content list.
So even if it’s “a 2020 aircraft that’s 2024 compatible” and you buy it from the 2020 store, evidence so far is there’s no way to get it over to 2024 at this time.
Given it’s Marketplace only, this is, well… moot, right? I mean, I guess in 2020 it will download, but, being encrypted and all, I’m not sure copying it over to OneStore will work. Tis a black box at the moment.
Does copying aircraft from 2020 OneStore to 2024 Community work? I don’t imagine it would. Maybe OneStore to OneStore might work, perhaps you would need to edit it into the context.xml file. I don’t know how well the layout.json would translate?
And, yeah, I’m not a marketplace purchaser, unless it’s super unique and interesting to me. I have too many planes as it is. And the mess that the 2024 library is at the moment turns me off even more to purchasing more content, especially if I can’t control how it appears. I’m not interested in flying a Carenado C337. Much more interested in seeing a Cessna C337 in my library. I’m also turned of to FlightFX given the Vision jet is apparently a stripped version of the one they sold originally? So, I’m not all that interested in supporting them as they continue this.
I bought the FFX Honda Jet and Vision Jet for 2020 and both appear in 2024 along side their Asobo kin. They both fly quite well in 2024.
That’s not quite the same. The issue is timing. Asobo has to “allow” the addon in 2020 to be available in 2024. That could take days, weeks, or months.
I am surprised this is a topic of discussion lol. 2024 is a mess… 2020 is far superior, outside of the little bit of eye candy 2024 has over 2020. I un installed 2024 awhile ago. I hope they fix it, but this is fine to release into the tried and true. I am looking forward to it.
Works really well in FS2024. it is still an FS2020 release, but for those of you who wanted to know, I loaded it up tonight in the newer sim. And you get a little preview of Boris’ excellent ANR simulation.
How did you get it into 2024
I have access to the builds as a QA tester. Eventually it should be migrated when folks purchase it in 2020.
In advance of today’s release on the Marketplace. This is not an official video - something I just ginned up to help new users.
Keep in mind MS still hasn’t migrated 2020 purchases going back to December, as I mentioned above. So I wouldn’t buy it now expecting to fly it in the next week. Perhaps those dormant recent 2020 releases will be made available to 2024 users when Marketplace launches? But I definitely wouldn’t count on them before that given no other 2020 releases from the past couple of months have been migrated over yet.
SimBrief integration?
Yes, simbrief integration is available via de IDX menu in the FMS.
Finding that out now, unfortunately I was under the impression it would work in 2024 right away, my bad. Of course I find out now its up to Microsoft as to when they will add it. I hate being mislead. So, if anyone is expecting to fly this in 2024 I’d just wait.
Agree, I know this plane will be amazing, but going to wait until 2024 compatibility is available. Hoping for SU1 with the Marketplace at the latest.
Actually it should be available now as a Migrated product in FS2024 if you purchased it today in MSFS 2020. We confirmed it with the Marketplace Team.
Bought it today but haven’t had time to try it out yet. Open it in the public release or the beta? Of course, could just try it in 2020 first.
It shouldn’t matter I think. It should appear in both RTM (Retail Build) and Beta.
