PICO 4 what do you think?

FYI VD has apparently now added a “godlike” mode for resolution higher than ultra on Pico . Wish I could find one in stock!

What it is FYI VD?

FYI = for your information

VD = Virtual Desktop

I imagine that’s a pig to run, and it’s not so much the resolution that’s a problem at ultra rather the compression artefacts. That said I’ll be sure to give godlike a go - has this updated now or is it something coming soon?

Out now according to discord, you may need to force update on headset app

thanks, give us report how it works in “godlike” mode..

I don’t think anything has changed - it’s the same resolution as it was before with ultra. I think the tiers and recommended GPUs have just been shuffled around a bit?

So any 4090+13900K with pico 4 users here?

If they can afford all that then probably they should get a Quest Pro imho, lol!

From now, nearly all tests of Quest Pro I saw seems to say that comfort is not really premium versus the Pico 4, including the weight. Also, the Quest Pro need the special interface sold 50$ to block all light, and this will be available only sometimes this month. The Pico 4 resolution is better (2160x2160 per eyes versus 1800x1920) and lighter. Pancake lenses seems nearly the same quality. For Quest Pro IPD need to be manually set inside headset so not easy as you have to remove the headset or slide a finger inside it when wearing it, versus the motorized IPD of Pico 4.
The only real advantages of Quest Pro IMHO is facial recognition, eye tracking (so foveting rendering, so more fps probably) and AR skills through color pass-through, but low resolution in this case, very low.
For long flying session Pico 4 seems better IMO.

If you actually tried the Quest Pro you may think differently mate. I’ve been using one for the last 6 days and I’m loving it, esp. with msfs. The clarity is fantastic and comfort is a lot better since I moded my with a top strap. Works surprisingly well without the included blockers. So good I cancelled my preordered full face interface. I’m sure 3rd parties will shortly come out with further battery and comfort mods.

As long as you are enjoying your Pico 4, that’s great mate. I may even pick one up to try if they ever start shipping to Australia. Cheers.

Good you enjoy it  My opinions is just made from few reviews for both headset, and obviously your mileage will vary

Now if I have to choose one or the other, pretty sure I’ll go for Pico 4. Anyway I only own an Oculus CV1, so the update for one or the other will be huge for me. And if price wasn’t an issue, both for sure!

I have Q2, Reverb G1 and P4. My quick review of using these headsets for MSFS.

Q2 via Virtual Desktop - heavier than the P4, audio is loud, IQ & FOV lower than P4
Reverb G1 via WMR - best IQ, FOV similar to Q2, clumsy controller because it its he largest amongst the 3
P4 - best in comfort, IQ is lower than Reverb but higher than Q2, audio is softer than Q2, best control handling

Loving my Quest Pro too, significant visual upgrade over my G2 and Vive Pro 2. I’m struggling a bit with performance in MSFS though, the CPU and GPU frame times are aound the same as with the G2, but I’m getting a lot of stutter flying over photogrammetry.

I haven’t used my Quest 2 for PCVR for almost two years so might be out of practice setting MSFS up for Quest headsets, I could really do with a guide.

That aside it’s an incredible headset.

Go to the Quest Pro thread and look at the YT vid I posted. It’s for a Q2 but pretty well all works well with my QP. The main changes for me is I run it at 80Hz with the res slider 1.2x (highest 1.2x notch). The rest of this including OpenXR work pretty good. You can fine-tune to suit yourself later.

So i hit the jackpot with the Pico 4. Here is my settings (5800x3d, 3080ti)

Pico 4 and Virtual desktop

  • everything maxed: GOD LIKE mode, h.264 codec in pc streamer settings
  • 72hz
  • SSW enabled (motion reprojection)

SteamVR

  • same resolution as GOD LIKE: 3120 x 3120

NCP

  • fps capped to 36, because i want that to be doubled with SSW 72fps with 72hz headset.

MSFS2020

  • DX12
  • DLSS: DLAA
  • Shadows off or low
  • others medium

OXR Toolkit

  • Forveated rendering: quality/wide

Airplane:

  • C195 businessliner. So good and fps friendly STOL aircraft. I did make propeller see through, maeby did gain one fps there.

So smooth and allmost good picture as G2. GPU utilization is 80%, so i have headroom to increase my visuals in MSFS2020. But never have GPU load over 90%, leave 10% headroom so you wont have stutters. Constant FPS with 80-90% GPU load is key to happiness.

Do you mean the virtual desktop SSW reprojection ?

Yes, with SSW.

I have no idea how you get 36fps on Godlike with DLSS DLAA - I tried it and got 22fps! 3090 10850k
