Pilatus Porter: Swiss Army Knife of the Skies

Right!!
Imagine it be like driving car at speed with hand brake on!

I read about a Waco YMF that was totalled because it was landed with the parking brake on and nosed over. The pilot could walk away, but I believe he was a bit sore from the belt.

Seems like the Italy update accidentally fixed the crash problem, even though the hotfix hasn’t yet been rolled on the marketplace.

But anyway, any chance of this configuration being implemented:

When you think about it, 8 hour cruising endurance is simply too little for normal people. I also can’t actually fly my Antarctica skinned Porter into Antarctica.

And speaking of fuel, I noticed the current external tanks don’t seem to weight anything by themselves (unlike on at least the JF Hawk), is that something that’s planned to change?

8 hours of cruising in a Porter would be pretty uncomfortable for normal people. Still, a ferry tank option would be useful for those longer over water legs.

I think having native simulation of aerodynamic effects is more desirable than programmatic emulation of the same phenomena, even if done very well. I’ve been enjoying the updated prop physics on the FlyingIron Spitfire and GotGravel’s cubs, the planes just feel that bit more alive and like they are moving through actual air, so I really hope you guys will add those features to the PC-6. Even if it’s a subtle difference I think every little bit of fine-grained simulation like that adds significantly to the feel of the thing.

It is not our intention to make modifications to the flight profile, the interior configurations or to add any of the ā€œniftyā€ stuff that’s in the 310 (wear n tear, prop physics, circuit breakers etc).

We may revisit this at a later date but, for now, we’re quite happy with the way the PC-6 feels, flies and looks…

Hi, is there a way to lock/release the tailwheel via a button or key? My landings are still not as straight as they should be and until I change the camera position to the tailwheel lock and release it via a mouse click after touchdown I quite often end up somewhere off the runway.

There is a simconnect event you can use:

and its associated variable:

I created a PC6 profile for Stream Deck with Flightdeck and it works nicely

But I don’t know if you can directly bind a simconnect event to a keyboard key.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info! Will try to get it get it to work with that.

Cheers

There is TOGGLE TAIL WHEEL LOCK in the default control options. Works fine with the Porter.

OMG I should have looked at the obvious place first. Totally missed that, thanks!

Thanks to the now functioning tailwheel lock the supplies made it safely from Dunedin (NZDN) to Manapouri (NZMO) despite to the strong Nor’Wester.

Just a quick heads up for anyone waiting for the promised stage 2 for the Milviz P6. According to their discord the update will now likely be in Q3 rather than Q2.

That’s correct. We had to push it a bit.

Apologies.

That’s somewhat disappointing. May I ask what the holdup is? Isn’t the general airframe and simulation the same and ā€œjustā€ the instrumentation needs to be exchanged (probably still plenty of work)? if I remember correctly the initial release of the steam gauge version was slated for the end of 2021 and now it gets pushed back in blocks of 3 months at a time repeatedly.

I’m asking, because I’m not a big fan of glass cockpits and I purchased that version on the promise of the steam gauge version following soon after. But at this point ā€œsoonā€ isn’t really soon anymore. I’m not mad, but I start to wonder. Anyway … looking forward to it and please take the time it needs to make it great (but not ALL the time. ) . I enjoy the glass cockpit version more than I thought I would.

ā€œ6-8 weeks after releaseā€ from Sept 2021
ā€œhopefully within a monthā€ from the end of September 2021
ā€œend of October or early Novemberā€ from early October 2021
ā€œa few more monthsā€ from early November 2021
ā€œlate this month or early next monthā€ from early December 2021
ā€œin the new year, likely end of Q1ā€ from end of December 2021
ā€œsometime after January 3ā€ from December 2021

and so on and so on…

I know a lot of people bought the Porter and tolerated the out-of-place G1000 in the promise that they’d have steam gauges sooner than later. Yet another delay isn’t exactly surprising but it certainly is disappointing

The situation isn’t great for us either. 25 of our people are under fire in the Ukraine and we have to wait till they can do the model/paint fixes.

Thanks for the support on that end.

Hi, since the latest version my EFB is no longer working (display just stays dark). Is there anything I’m missing? Maybe some setting or required switch to have it powered or something (except for the small circular button at the bottom).

EDIT: Figured it out myself. I bound some of the switches of my Honeycomb Bravo to Instrument Lights which makes the instrument rotary unsuable and fixes the brightness to lowest. This also turns the tablet to lowest brightness.

Well, that is a very good reason. Didn’t know that. I wish everyone affected all the best. Stay safe!

Is it just me or can anyone take off in a significant crosswind from the left? I’m full right rudder and also have the rudder trimmed to the right but there seems to be no way to keep it straight. I’ve tried it with tailwheel locked and unlocked. The crosswind can be anywhere around 15ks. I was flying with live weather and simply can’t stay on the runway.
