Does anyone out there in VR world have the Pixma Crystal Light? If so, how do you like it? Want to replace my HP G2.
I ordered mine back in Oct and received it right before Thanksgiving. Tried it out and the left lens was so blurry I could only read text by looking through the very bottom of the lens. The right lens has a blur for the outside 1/5 of the viewing area. Tried reseating the lenses just to be sure (at Pimaxās direction). No change.
Pimax is sending new lenses, but not a good start. Iāll update maybe in a month when I get my new lenses⦠their shipping is not fast.

I also had to replace my reverb g2. The crystal light display is very good and much clearer and brighter then the HP. The night and evening scenarios are much better black and good colors. (local dimming and bright lights with no godrayās). Works perfect with MSFS 2024 (and 2020) . For my 3080TI i have to downscale my resolution to medium (in Pimax Play). But still much better than with the reverb. My lenses had a slight distortion on the edges . I think that is normal (much less than the HP). The build quality of the unit is medium (HP is better). Also the sound in the HP is better (I have the standard speakers on the Crystal). I am still not used to the big size of the unit, but the weight is almost the same as the HP. Inside Out tracking is perfect in front of my monitors. Also other games (steam VR, Oculus) works mostly, and with Pimax play much simpler to use than with WMR. The controllers are also medium quality (HP is better), but within MSFS 2024 i donāt use them. So the crystal light has its pros and cons but i am happy with it and can finally read all the instruments in the cocpit
.
I didnāt like it because of barrel distortion and returned it. I am still using G2.
I had G2 now have PCL.
Wouldnāt go back and in MSFS2024 works very well.
I must have gotten lucky. Mine were received a couple of months ago and I canāt find any issues with mine. I use them quite often in 2024 there are currently some bugs that need addressing but the PCLās are still very usable.
I got mine a few weeks ago. Dead out of the box. Still trying to return it for a refund. Seems the quality control for Pimax is iffy. Got a Quest 3 and use it with Virtual Desktop and am very happy with it.
@Spirit539 watch this video about Pimax and their issues. The guy on the video gives you a clear way to get help through their horrible support process
I tried the quest 3 and the response was horrible, ended up returning it. Didnāt try the Virtual Desktop, i thinkā¦
I replaced my G2 with a PCL, and have been using it for about 2 months. I liked the G2, but for me the PCL is much sharper, has a much wider FOV, and better colors.
That said, for me with the PCL is it isnāt as comfortable to wear, though once I got the custom head strap kit, weights, and face gaskets, itās not bad. And to be fair I had comfort upgrades on my G2 also.
The default PCL speakers are also not that great, though they do have an upgrade you can buy for about $100 (if it ever comes back in stock).
I wouldnāt even consider going back to the G2, and in fact just gave mine away to a friend.
My G2 died about six months ago even though it was only a couple of years old so I replaced it with the PCL which I find as others have said is much clearer & more vibrant than the G2.
Also I used to have issues if I swapped in & out of VR with the G2 often leading to crashes or issues however my experience with the Pimax is itās far more stable in the sim.
I had an Reverb G2, but sold it for a Pimax Crystal Light replacement, and wow what a replacement, the name says it all Crystal Clear image.
I must say, at first I was pretty disappointed and thought something was wrong with my new headset! It was all a mess to use.
I had a very hard time configuring my IPD settings for my pimax crystal light. My IPD is 60 mm measured by my optician. When I set the headset to 60mm IPD I had a ādouble visionā and got to very stressed eyes.
But when i found out that i needed to adjust the horiontal IPD offset in Piplay to suit my eyes, and now it is crystal clear. The FOV, sweet spot all is just very good visuals.
Unfortunately I had to find out all this by myself, Pimax support wasen“t any help at all, and I mostly didn“t get a response at all from them.
The headset is big and a bit clynky to wear, but once you learn to wear it properly, is is quite nice to wear.
But if you can live with that, then the Pimax Crystal Light is major visual upgrade to the G2 in my opinion. But you need a beefy PC to run it.
I have this rig: 9800x3d, RTX4090, 64 GB. Less can do fine, but this Rig rocks in VR.
And yes, get the DMAS headphones, the default are not good sounding.

Just had another flight last night in The Granville Brothers Gee Bee over Southern Great Britain in MSFS2024 in VR, and wow i actually felt like I was there ![]()
Coming from a HP Reverb G2 to a Crystal Light I am struggling with it. I have 20/20 vision but man the amount of eye fatigue with the CL is becoming a show stopper for me. I could spend hours in the G2 and now after about 30 mins with the CL my eyes are watering. Yes the vision is clear but itās as if my eyes are constantly straining to focus on something that does not need focusing. Iāve tried IPD settings, thicker face gasket foam, you name it. Something is just off with the optics.
Had to return my PCL three times due to lense issues before I finally gave up and asked for a refund. Itās probably the best VR headset available now in that pricerange, but itās a lottery if you get a good one or not. Brace yourself for a lot of frustration if you decide to take the chanceš I got a Quest3 in the end and Iām very happy with it .
Have you tried adjusting the separate IPD settings in Pimax Play? A lot of people had issues like you describe and adjusting those settings fixed it for them.
The headset is uncomfortable for me. Not light. Very heavy. The software and resolution is good. FOV could be betterā¦
I donāt know what other headset could match it.
Maybe the quest 3ā¦
I have the original Crysta,l which I love, but I feel the eye strain. I believe itās because it has a one meter focal distance, not sure what the Light has. I wear contact lenses and as such have issues with closer focal distances. Supposedly prescription inserts will help.
Another thing on the original (I donāt know if it was addressed on the Light) is the fit of the facial interface. It can be so bad without customizing the facial interface that it can prevent your eyes from being anywhere near where the eyes need to be for clarity. I wonder if that could be why so many people report bad lenses.
How is it with glasses?
Thereās enough room in the facial interface for glasses on the Crystal.
I had cataract surgery, so canāt focus my eyes at the 1 metre virtual focus distance of my Crystal. I had my optometrist measure the dioptre needed to focus at that distance and then ordered a pair of reading glasses online with that correction. I made sure to have plastic frames, so as to not scratch the headsetās lenses.
Works fine.
I wonder why Pimax uses such a close range. The focal distance is such a common complaint. Anyone older or younger people with contacts could suffer.
Beats me, but itās annoying, as I can wear the Pico 4 and G2 without reading glasses.
