Yup, voted and will also copy my post there.
100% agree.
(PC / Steam here, SU10b)
I have yolk and pedals but also use XBox controller for various other things. The white dot is a complete immersion destroyer.
The devs work so hard to get the sim looking beautiful. Scenery is amazing at times. And then in the middle of your screen a big White Dot appears, drawing all your attention away from the beautiful scenery. It is not even subtle.
I understand why it is there, some folks may want to be reminded, every time they move the view, what is the area of focus for controls.
However, many of us just don’t need it (or want it).
I am perfectly able to tell what is the focus area of my screen, for example, playing FPS I usually have crosshairs off.
Constantly having to reach down for the Down Arrow key or DPad direction button, to remove it is a real pain too. And once you have seen it, you get more and more aware of it and it gets more and more distracting.
Anyway there really is no argument here, it is simply a request for the option to remove it. It doesn’t have to be removed for everyone. Just give us the option. Please.
(You only have to search for “White Dot” in the forum to see how many users detest it and how long it has been an issue.)
Oh and don’t get me started on the massive thick white borders around panels…
I think we should give this issue a catchy name to distinguish itself. Something short, sweet, and to the point.
I vote for calling it the “White Dot of Distraction”. I’d love to hear your name suggestions.
These are book titles:
White Dot, the Reality Killer
Anti Immersion with White Dot and White Box
White Highlights, a self help book, for those who don’t know where the screen centre is
I’m actually working on a little a application that will press the down arrow key at regular intervals. But so far MSFS will not accept external automated key presses. I’ll get there though.
Meanwhile, I have a paperweight on my down arrow key.
I can think of many names for that dot, but none are the kind one should utter in civilized company…
I use a controller on PC. The white dot surely isn’t that difficult to turn off? It’s been too long, already. Please remove it.
I actually would like to remove the white dot on Xbox as well.
It’s only useful when using the controller as a pointer - but that gets activated explicity and it’s a white dot with a big circle around it. So I’m not sure why the white dot is there in the first place. It interferes with functionality, not just a visual distraction.
For example, if in a cockpit view, and the hidden white dot happens to be over a button, then pressing “A” on the controller to increase throttle instead activates the button. Whovever designed it never used it to fly in MSFS.
It’s a symptom of using a joypad controller, nothing to do with Xbox as such. It has that same behaviour on PC if using a controller sadly.
I have 1 or 2 planes that actually can’t be flown because the straight ahead position already has some function directly under the middle, so instead of adjusting throttle, I’m showing and hiding the gun sights or whatever. So annoying!
Hi, I see this has been a request for a long time. Dear MSFS / Asobo, please consider Sim Update 12 be dedicated to long-standing issues and requests.
Please add an option to disable the floating “white dot”, unless/until a moment when it is absolutely needed. On Xbox, it only interferres for me: if it is hidden but happens to be over a cockpit control when I press “A” for throttle on the controller, it activates whatever is under the hidden dot instead - extremely frustrating. It’s also visually distracting.
Thanks, that helped! Was going half mad as I couldn’t change throttle and things seemed “stuck”. This fixes that.
Don’t need the white dot though, it doesn’t have any useful purpose. To me.
I haven’t tried that but I wonder..if we don’t use an Xbox controller but a controller of a different brand does the dot still appears?
All I want for everyone PC/Xbox is a way to toggle off this white dot.
Don’t hide this in the millions of controller settings.
Everyone who wants it can keep it on, and the rest of us can toggle it off.
No need to explain why it’s good or what it good for, just give an option for EVERYONE to toggle it.
I know that you can toggle it off on an Xbox controller by hitting any of the D-pad buttons.
What is the equivalent key(s) on a PC?
It is not working anymore for me. I used to get rid of the dot this way but now i just can’t since the update… I can’t stand having this dot in the middle of the screen when i just look around. I’ve tried everything, it’s not working and i can’t get rid of it. A fix would be amazing
The same here… since update, the anoing white dot it’s always there.
I don’t get it, why did they think it was a good idea to have this dot in the middle of the screen ? Even on Xbox it is not needed. We can use the cursor mode when we need to click something and go out of this cursor mode when we don’t need it. This single dot isn’t helping us at all!
Basically on Xbox, you could get rid of this dot by clicking any direction on the Dpad. It would disappear and never come back. But with the new update it won’t go away.
GIVE US THE OPTION TO TOGGLE THIS DOT OFF PLEASE
I definitely cringe every time they release an update.
On this occasion, they force us to have the white dot lurching all over the screen, not like before, where the white point only appeared when you moved the mouse, then you changed views and it no longer appeared until you moved the mouse again .
Ok so guys, i might have a temporary workaround about this. It works on Xbox for me at least.
Sorry in advance if i’m not being clear, English is hard for me…
Press the left analog to trigger the cursor mode (with the big toolbar on the top of the screen), then press left Dpad to turn everything off, then press left analog again. this time it won’t trigger the cursor mode and the white dot won’t be back.
Do it everytime to need to get rid of the white dot. It’s a hassle but it works.
If what i said isn’t clear, please let me know and i’ll try to explain it better
It would be good to know what keys are assigned to try to do the same.
