You have to manually edit the cfg file, change your file permissions, etc. it’s detailed in this overall thread above. Too much work for me. Lol
If you’re on Steam usercfg.opt is in
\Users<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\
Look for this with a text editor
{Graphics
Version 1.1.0
Preset Custom
{Texture
MaxAnisotropy 16
Quality 1
}
{SuperSampling
SuperSampling 4
}
{Terrain
LoDFactor 2.000000
}
{ObjectsLoD
LoDFactor 1.500000
}
2.0 is 200 in the UI. Some people say you need to set the file to read only otherwise the game changes it back. (Maybe in the windows version, I never had that problem). It might change back when you go into graphics settings again or after an update.
That’s exactly what mine looks like in all major cities and it looks like that 50% in small cities . Even see it happen on trees in small towns and weird rock-melted-legos on major highways . What’s goin on here ? How come the previews from Msfs2020 before release didnt show this ?
They need to have more sliders to allow users to adjust to settings that work for their PC setup and connectivity.
Adding a slider isn’t going to help. Adding sliders requires having things to change. There’s not anything to change at the moment.
They need to have examples from many people of different setups, and then they need to rework the logic to help those people, without affecting the people who have it good.
They need to figure out what’s going on before they add “sliders”.
Hello, since WU3 (UK) I noticed that scenery looks more like FSX, than FS2020.
Here are two screenshots to compare.
Shots are from different angle, but you can see the difference. Just look at that island, one is flat surfface, another shot is nice 3D moddels of trees. Also look at the park across river, before it looks it is in real life, now it looks just flat grassfield with some walkpaths.
Just to know, I didn’t change any settings, everything is like it was before. But I wasn’t shure because from WU3 I didn’t fly around Belgrade so I can compare. But even other regions of the world looks like this, more FSX than FS2020.
Anyone else having this issue?
On the last 10 march Q@A, they told, Bing will improve the 400 city Photogrammetry in MSFS end of this year, not sure what they will do and how.
You clearly have Bing data off or photogrammetry off – that looks way worse (your 2nd screenshot) – double check to make sure those didn’t get turned off.
In yesterday’s Q&A it was said they couldn’t tell any difference between pre-alpha, launch or current versions. Wasn’t clear if they looked at LOD distance or just the modelling up close.
they should have gone to specsavers then as
Think this was about the photogrammetry as some said it is more pyramid shaped in degraded in the distance when zooming in ![]()
You were right, Bing data was turned off. I don’t know why, I didn’t change nothing, must be something gone wrong in update. Thank you.
If you loose the server connection, you’ll get a notification about it, and that setting may (or will?) be switched to Off. For some reason, but not necessarily a good one, it isn’t set back to On when the connection is up again.
Not saying that’s what happened in your case, but not everybody is aware of this.
Because of my sh*tty provider I did get that notification, but when connection is up again, Bing data continue to load. And in settings that option stayed turned on. Maybe after WU3 that was changed.
Never mind, it is important that I know what was the problem.
So, if I go full crazy and try to change the CFG to 6.0, can I expect more crash to desktop, stuttering and significant loss of FPS but draw distance will improve, is that right?
If you’ll notice, there’s always a ton of complaints right after a major update, all assuming that the developers have broken something when in fact, it’s highly likely that all of us pile on to MSFS at once to see the changes putting a huge load on the servers delivering the Bing data. If you wait a week after those big releases, things are always much more stabilized. It doesn’t matter if your internet connection is a 100gb connection and you have a $20,000 gaming rig if the source server is struggling.
Depends on how fast your Internet is, how much system ram and how much vram you have, you will need a lot for smooth LOD of 6.0
I have no problems with that though, so yes if great sys then go for it…
Around 200MB download Speed
5900X, GTX 1660, 32GB ram.
I get from 17 FPS on dense areas to 30 airborne… (Tho lots of weather clouds make it go very very down). However approach on KLAX made me get a crash and EDDF and LFPG very very low fps, even with LOD of 130.
In your expertise… worth trying? I’m kinda “insecure” on changing this LVL of “programing” and making stuff worse.
Cuz there’s this point that @Azphilosopher brought up:
Servers might be f*cked up too.
Thanks.
This could not be more well said.
not sure your GTX 1660 would cope? LOD 6.0 does use a huge amount of vram in places
