Please help! Can't get the autopilot to follow the EFB flight plan

I’ve tried everything. I don’t know if it’s a bug but I put in the flight plan to EFB and then file to ATC and then send to avionics and after taking off turn on the autopilot and it doesn’t follow the flight plan at all. I’ve tried pressing LNAV and then both VNAV as well and nothing. Once it followed the flight plan but now it doesn’t. It’s just frustrating.

What aircraft are you using?

I tried Airbus A320NEO, A321, A332, A333, Boeing 7378MAX, Boeing 747-8, and Boeing 787-10. What in the world am I doing wrong? Do I have to press execute on the FMC but I’ve tried that and nothing happens. It’s just very frustrating.

In the EFB, did you send the flight plan to aircraft avionics?

Yes I did. It’s so frustrating. I’ve tried everything I can think of. Any ideas?

There really is no difference in how the FMC works in any of these aircraft as compared to FS2020.
You are initializing them, adding departures and arrivals, and perf.
If you are familiar with all this, they should work just fine.
I just finished two flights in the A320 V2, and had no issues either time (aside from the fact they didn’t handle Rnav too well).

Doesn’t it just send it to the FMC after you file the flight plan on the EFB and you just turn on the autopilot?

At the very bottom of the flight plan section in the EFB, there are “send to ATC” and “send to avionics” or words to that effect.
You need to select the avionics one to get the info into the aircraft.
The ATC is if you want an ATC controlled flight.

OK, I did that. I send to ATC and send to avionics. Nothing happens after taking off and pressing the autopilot. Do I press execute on the FMC after sending to avionics? Do I press LNAV after activating the autopilot? What am I missing?

I really appreciate your help

You will need to add your departures and arrivals and fill out the preference sections, then executing those changes.
Yes LNav is what you would use once you have the FMC programmed properly, and the autopilot set up.

If you aren’t overly familiar with the aircraft, there are manuals available here:

I tried it using the Airbus A320NEO. It doesn’t work. I put in the departure and arrival in the EFB and send to ATC and then send to avionics. What do I need to do in the FMC? That’s where I’m lost. It sends the information but it doesn’t follow the flight plan when you put on the autopilot.

In MSFS 2020 you just create a plan and press autopilot and it just follows the plan. It’s not doing that in MSFS 2024. I don’t mess with the FMC because it’s too confusing for me. I just want to get in and fly.

Yeah, I don’t think you can do that in MSFS2024.
I’ve done the proper entering in the FMC and all works very well.
From what I have seen, I don’t believe the sim will if you don’t.

In MSFS2020 I used to create my flight plans in Skyvector, save them as .FPLs, convert them to .PLNs (there’s a readily downloadable applet to do that) then save them into a folder. Prior to starting a flight, I’d load the flight plan into the sim, and then when I loaded the airplane the flight plan would be in the system, ready to fly.

In FS2024 when flying an FS2020 airplane (in this case the Iris PC-21), I try to load up the flight plan into the EFB after going through the (tedious) weight and balance process, and it looks like it’s loaded correctly. I even send it to the avionics, and that looks like it works correctly. But the flight plan is not in the airplane when I start it up.

I’m calling this one a bug and will log it as such in the bug reporting area unless somebody here can explain to me why it’s not.

While we’re discussing questions about FS2024, maybe someone can answer this one: Will we always be required to do a full walk around on all 2024 aircraft before we can fly them, even in free flight? Right now it looks like we do. Do we, really?

Yes, there seems to be a problem when you send it to the avionics and it doesn’t follow the flight plan. I reported it as a bug. I mean it shouldn’t be that difficult as others want to get in the plane and fly just like in MSFS 2020. That’s what I do. I guess it’s going to be awhile for them to fix the bugs.

I can’t get it to work in any plane in MSFS 2024 at all. I send to avionics and it doesn’t follow the flight plan at all. It doesn’t show up.

It’s a mess. They never should have released it in this state. I guess another money grab.
