Please if there is any sort of developer reading this please take this guys advise it is so thru we really really need to get more manuals for the sim planes, I mean the ATR is a really good example of this, people are talking bad about this aircraft just because there is no proper guide on how to operate your aircraft and know these hidden feature mentioned in the video. It is sad seeing people acting like this just because of a lack of information.
I really suggest you watch this video if you are a developer or just a flyer! The Video
( I take no credit for bringing this up I think it is good to spread this information so there is a bigger chance that we get a change in this trend)
This should be more directed to Asobo / MS as they typically do not provide manuals for their Aircraft. Most (not all) but most, third party (reputable ones) do. Or, their aircraft are so closely in line with their real world counterpart that the POH’s and checklists, etc available online work without much issue or messing about.
As well, most, provide instructions on how to calibrate throttles, etc, if no full manual was released.
Again, not the case with Asobo planes (or even Asobo partnered planes) such as the ATR.
The CJ4 has a great one, because it was WorkingTitles before it became the default, so there are always exceptions, but it isn’t the rule in my experience.
that’s simply not true
while Boeing owns the IP on its documents instruction on how to use a piece of equipment is not exclusive. Otherwise no one could ever be instructed on it, nor could youtubers instruct or any of these simulators you can visit.
producing a document instructing how yo use your software product is NOT infringing as long as you dont use any of boeing material , so a company producers a replica of airplane with permission but cant teach others how to use it? this just feels like an excuse
While PMDG were apparently able to just supply the Boeing documentation in the past, nothing is preventing them from writing their own manual and providing it with their plane.
As shown, many developers include manuals, DC Designs does (2), PMDG does (2) one flight training and one setup manual.
You have joined the choir, every single person on this sim has begged for manuals on settings, setup, performance curves in depth, and asobo gives us nothing, why, they made deals with all the YouTube channels who would promote this sim and those folks make a bunch of money doing videos. That is why I fly in X-Plane more lately than here, manuals, about 117 pages of one, and XP can be installed on Linux, which I might go to because of the audio problems windows has increasing the volume on anything playing to 50% without warning, blowing out my ears every single time. I have searched for solution and not one thing suggested works. It’s got to be imbedded in the OS, and I have just about had it with MSFT for those. It’s not support is a money train.
Surely they shouldn’t be allowed to even make a sim version of a Boeing aircraft then? If they can make the plane you’d think they could make the manual. What’s the difference?
Again while recreating boeing information would be an infringement , to state in writing " to turn battery on press switch labelled battery" is NOT an infringement and can never be. PMDG haven’t even bothered to use the interactive checklist to help you locate switches and to operate them like other offering , oh and where’s the efb? But PMDG are just one of a few who don’t provide manuals or any documentation.
I don’t think you understand my statement, It is about operating procedures not really instructions definitely not anything with how to calibrate stuff. We need instructions on how to fly the planes correct.
Referencing the PMDG 737:
Wow, quite an emotional letter copied to here above (in my opinion at least). But I have to say, if that 800 lb gorilla knocked on my door and said jump, I’d ask how high. Is the prospect of years in court and what, a $50 million bill worth it at the end?
I’ve put the purchase of this on pause whilst I reflect on whether I’ll be able to learn how to fly it to the level it was built for. Gotta say though, on the other hand, there’s no way I’m reading 400+ highly detailed pages for fun.
Referring to the 737 again, out of genuine curiosity, how many of those who fly the PMDG version (and have learnt all the buttons/switches) would feel they had a good chance to be able to fly the real deal if they stepped into the cockpit?
Maybe therein lies Boeings reasoning to deny any reproduction of a thorough detailed flight manual. Perhaps history has shown how dangerous simulators can be.
You don’t get any documentation for the F35 etc either.
I heartily agree with opinions on other aircraft, anything bought on the marketplace has nothing (though much is googleable) and the likes of the Junkers F13 came without a single page, easy to figure out, but very annoying when you pay for the aircraft. Just bought Okavango Delta from the marketplace….nothing, then a couple of hours googling for the contents of the manual you get if you bought from Orbx. Annoying.
He does not really need to be making lazy excuses. My purchase of the MSFS 737-900 when it was recently released, came with pretty good documentation. That being the case, I’m not sure why he chimed in on this topic in the the way they did.
To the question of why Boeing shut down access to manuals… 737MAX.
Their billions of dollars of losses on that can be directly attributed to lack of documentation (well, and stupidity on the part of management, but, that’s hard to argue about in court).
