PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

I meant $200 total. My estimate is it will be $50 per version. Maybe $60.

That would be very cheap yes but he already said we will be pleased with the pricing.

I doubt it will be that cheap … :crossed_fingers:

This was posted this morning by Robert. The 800 is indeed several months away. Looks like it may drop in July/August.

Evening Everybody!

A couple of folks have been debating the release order: You may recall that late last summer we announced the release order would be 700, 600 first because they are functionally very similar and that the 800 and 900 would need significant additional engineering that has to be done second because the 600/700 are the foundation of the engineering production process for Boeing and for the logical processes in the PMDG simulation.

We decided to do the 700 first since it was more popular in the real world than the 600. This also fits in the ability for us to give the team a chance to catch it’s breath as we phase in the 600, rather than going from heavy lift to heavy lift.

Just wanted to be certain it was clear that this information has been presented previously and does not represent a change!

Edit 'cuz I forgot to mention this part:
Another piece that is probably worth mentioning is that the amount of time it will take to complete the 800 series is about 10-12 weeks from when the 700 is released. It is substantially irrelevant if the 600 drops in-between the 700 and 800 because of the way workflow parses out between the code team and the modeling teams. We could cancel the 600 release entirely and it would not change the delivery date of the 800 relative to the 700.

I realize that some folks are always looking for a conspiracy theory, and this point doesn’t support that desperate desire to have something to be angry about- but I think it is important that the facts be made clear here, as they are relevant.

That´s also my guess. If you are eligible for store credit of 99,99, you could buy 2 variants and everyone would be happy. So 49,99 per variant seems to be the sweet spot and the most fair price to me.

And even then ppl will argue why they should pay another 50 bucks for the 800 if they already bought the 700 for 50 USD because it´s basically the same thing to some, just a bit change in code and model… :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, if I were in marketing, I would probably say 60 per variant. Because if you spent 60 on one variant you would have a store balance of 39,99 left. And ppl might think of paying another 20 bucks is better than “losing” your store credit of 40…? Why should it be my problem if ppl just can´t restrain themselves from buying something different than they actually want, just because it is released earlier…? :grinning:

However, I doubt it will be much higher than that. If some folks love conspiracy theories or have a generally bad picture of PMDG, then just don´t buy it.

I am happy to support these guys´ work. Without their first 737 for FSX I would never have gotten that deep into civil simulations nor learnt all those interesting stuff about civil aviation, procedures, charts, navigation,…so, if they deliver a high quality product I am willing to compensate them accordingly.

Exactly. You can’t complain about the marketing if it’s only 50 USD and 200 USD for them all. I will just buy all of them even if i won’t be flying the 600 much, just to support good in-depth products.

There are so much B-aircraft on the market already for way too much money. We should support the good products and steer the market towards high quality products.

I will buy 1 pmdg 737.
Interpret that as you wish.
I’ve worked long enough in marketing to recognize this for what it is.

This is what happens when there is no real comptetition.

If the new products combined cost less than the P3D products combined it’s still cheaper, doesn’t matter how they market it.

They have said the products will be cheaper now because the market is so much bigger now. Randazzo said we will be pleasantly surprised. So i will wait with complaining until they release pricing information.

And if it’s cheap why would i care about how they market it? I just want to fly planes. If i can fly planes for cheap, and they can optimise their income stream as a company, everyone is happy.
They can continue to develop even more and better planes so i can fly them.

Or i can be mad and don’t fly and have less fun.

The amount of money I’d personally spend would be determined by how much I think I’m going to enjoy using the product. It’s also determined by the developer, they will charge what they think is fair, and people will vote with their wallets.

I am assuming this will be priced similarly to the DC-6. Which, as I know I’m going to enjoy the 737 immensely, I’m willing to pay. Others won’t. People’s perception of value is different, and that’s great.

I think the amount of effort, time and expertise that goes into something like this should be reflected in the price. I think if anyone has an issue with the cost, then there’s a very affordable version of the 737 already on the marketplace.*

*which I would not touch, even when it’s on sale.

My guess is PMDG will do something similar to what happens with the Arrow/Turbo Arrow/Warrior and the CRJ with a fairly high initial price and significant discounts for purchasing additional planes/bundles later. I wouldn’t be surprised to see $80-$100 for the first one and then something like $40 for each additional variant. That would make a total purchase price of around $200 for all four for those that want them all.

The DC-6 is a much less complex plane and is priced at $60. I expect the 737 to be higher than that, at least for the first variant bought.

They said that there will be no discounts for additional variants, except the one from P3D.

I will happily pick up the 700 when its out.Southwest has so many of them that has plenty of flight routes

Westjet in Canada has a fleet of about 70 of the 700’s as well.

Randazzo said almost nothing is missing, should we expect wheater radar on this first release?

It would be a pleasant surprise if this 737 had weather radar, but since all developers have problems with this, let’s not get our hopes up. Let’s keep in mind that it won’t have a weather radar on release… so we can be surprised if it have it and we won’t be disappointed if it haven’t.

Back when PMDG were talking about a “showstopper” issue and everyone was speculating what it might be, Robert said explicitly on the PMDG forum he did not consider weather radar as a must have for launch. So don’t hold your breath.

Didn’t they say weather radar API was coming with SU9?

Per the feedback snapshot, from SU10 onwards. We can only hope that this is full access to the data necessary so devs can render it accurately (such as requested here Implement weather and terrain API’s for aircraft developers to implement accurate radar, predictive windshear, EGPWS, and METAR/wind uplink ) and not just feeding the existing stock radar images to WASM developers. We’ve gotten no details so far as far as I know.

FINALLY!!!
So there is no blockade anymore to finally bring fully fleshed-out airliners without any missing features?

I really hope so.

And that :index_pointing_up:t2: is my fear.

Worth noting that in the feedback snapshot as of around Jan of this year that’s exactly what it said. “Exposing the same bitmaps as JS to WASM” or something along those lines. Not sure if they meant that as an initial implementation with more to follow.

That language isn’t there anymore in the current snapshot but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a what they do, at first at least. Keeping my expectations low.
