PMDG Boeing 747 update

There is a 742 which isn’t buried in Victorville called Air Force One, I would definitely be interested in having a study level version of this if PMDG are promising a Virtual Flight Engineer with it.

Hi,
Back in the 1980s Saudia used 747s (and L-1011s) between Jeddah OEJN and Riyadh OERK. Just over an hour flight time.

You enjoy being limited by the few remaining 747 routes, meanwhile the rest of us will have all of Pan Am/TWA/Braniff/British Airways and many other 747 historic networks to go at.

I can’t wait to fly the Kai Tak IGS in a Cathay Pacific 747.

Yes it’s much more fun to sit at my desk and watch a plane fly than diving into playing with and learning how to use everything in a vintage one…

I’ll probably end up getting the 400 too but the 100 is gonna be the QUEEN

Don’t know where I read it (maybe on their discord) but the aim was to have every 747 available, so can’t wait for the 74M’s.

SP should be pretty cool too if that’s covered. STOL(ish) vintage 747 is directly up my alley. IIRC it’s pretty clear they’ll be doing the 1, 2, 4, and 8. Unclear if ‘whole range’ is covered enough by that or if the SP and 3 will also be made

Im pretty sure that they will be doing the complete linup including the 300 and sp.
Im not a developer but I’m assuming that if they have built a 100, then all then series would just be almost transferable with regarding the cockpit and other things such as wing tips?

Here’s what RSR said back in December:

Well I am happy to see PMDG finally doing some classic as well as modern versions of the 747. Maybe they might continue the classic trend into the 737(100-500) as well as the 707/720 and 727.

I want to see them do the original tri-jet 747-300 design, and I will not be satisfied if it’s not covered..

I have a hair over 3K hrs in the PMDG 744 & 748 spread across various versions. They can release it later this year, or even early next year…you won’t hear any complaints from Me, as PMDG does absolutely top-tier work that is worth the time we spend waiting and the $ we spend on it (don’t ask how much I’ve spent lol just thinking about it makes My bank account hurt!!).

I’m really looking forward to the 741. I truly hope though, that they include a Pan Am livery with it, as they were the launch customer for The Queen. Not to mention, Pan Am’s 747SP Clipper Lindbergh went on to become SOFIA (guess some Queens truly are destined for greatness), so they - and American Airlines, as two of their Queens went on to become Shuttle Carriers - got pretty strong ties to this amazing plane.

Regardless of if they include a Pan Am - or even an American Airlines - livery or not, I’m excited for this.

So many classic liveries they (or someone) could do: PanAm, TWA, Northwest, Eastern .. and as for still-extant carriers, retro liveries for United, American, Air Canada, Lufthansa, British, et cetera … Can’t wait.

From the PMDG forum
[15FEB25] We forgot you on Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love you! So here is some news about 777-200ER, Ops Center 3, MSFS24 & 747-100! - PMDG Simulations

PMDG 747-400 and PMDG 747-100 The Classic Whale:
While everything else at PMDG has been in some state of fluxmate, work on the 747 fleet has been accelerating. (Flux + Stalemate. meaning: “things are changing but so slowly that it appears nothing is happening.” It Is my own word. I made it up. You may use it if you like! )

747-400 images will come later… She still isn’t quite ready to be seen, but like her older sister the -100, we are planning to give you glimpses into the progression of things as she works through development.

Most of the work over the past few weeks has been on the Classic Whale side of the hangar, with detailing of the flight deck panels beginning to move rapidly with labeling, back lighting and the beginning of the lengthy process of adding photo-realistic detailing and wear on the various panel surfaces. You can see in the two images below that we have added all of the labeling, including the backlit details, and while the texturing is pretty basic at this juncture, some small pieces of the panel are beginning to get increased detail which will grow throughout the entire flight deck as development progresses.

One other note on the images below: none of the cockpit “surround” (the areas not on the panel face itself) have been textured yet. they have a base texture color on them just to give them some basic color-but for the most part what you are seeing is extremely low resolution texture that will remain in place until the 3D geometry is completed and ready for high detail texturing.

Coding on the back-side of the panels is progressing, we are taking advantage of some of the slow periods on other projects to move developers on and off the 747 line to keep it moving forward at the best rate possible even with the other workload items on our agenda.

I dont, as a kiwi have any “nostalgia” with the 100…
Im definitely will be hitting that partners American express and dealing with the “consequences” later when the 200 and the 400 (air nz) hell… even the 300 would be cool.. SP and doing Cough Qantas flights to Wellington will be an absolute blast…
100… doesn’t quite have my name on it.. but certainly hope it gets a good patronage and financially fuels the next series…
I wonder what other branches PMDG can go from…
Airbus… Aprt from the four holers are well and truly done and dusted…
Maybe a DC8 and or a better rendition of the 07???
Maybe a metro or Dashie… Definitely feel like that commuter in “pmdg/JF” level is severly missing… even steal that slow progress of milviz 732… and do the entire range… that… and the classics series would be a great completion of a much loved classic

I really want someone to make a vintage big turbopropliner, like an l188. I feel like something like that could be pretty cool as a PMDG product

Someone asked about the 737 Classics (e.g., the “Jurassics” lol). RSR answered their post:

Here’s the whole (short) thread:

https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/346965-b737cl

I know that some company is doing a classic and started a thread when it first was announced… its good for small companies to have a go… but a full classic range of 737s would be fantastic…
Lots of potential options for many vacant planes… like someone above mentioned… A Electra L88? Now that would be cool..
Im partial with regards the max.. nice Aircraft thats relevant.. just feel like its… like the multiple 320s… just the same thing slightly different shell…
But definitely looking forward to the 200 and 400

This discussion just gave me a flashback to this from a long long time ago in a flight sim far far away. Watch to the very end to see the never released PMDG Dash-8 turboprop.

PMDG seemed to be going in the direction at the time of introducing turboprops. They had a Beachcraft 1900D, the JS-41, and previewed the Dash-8-100. However, for reasons never fully explained the turboprop line disappeared.

I really feel that, especially as a developer and how they mentioned themselves “737 fatigue…” a dashie would be a perfect break from the norm… much in the way I bet the 741 is now…
Pmdg would absolutely ace a dashie, 1900 or hell… a Metro would be right up that American ally in regards to forgotten classics…
I really do hope and would certainly support a metroliner or even a dc8 development from a ace developer that pmdg are…
Fingers crossed that those lines are… looked into once these main bread and butter lines are finished and wrapped up…
Exciting but kinda a shame they missed out on the 5/67s that bluebird are currently working on… just hope and feel they will be lovely products…
