PMDG Boeing 747 update

The majority of the 737’s are available and the release off the 777 comes in sight, so for me its the time to become hyped about the PMDG 747.
PMDG stated today that the development work is spooling up ( [17DEC23] Your Weekend PMDG News Update: Some small, some Big - PMDG Simulations) so I think its time to get our wishes, speculations and rumours out there.
What models do you think will be released (first) and what liveries will be available.
Me personally hoping for a KLM retro livery of the 747-400, my all-time favourite aircraft.

WAYYY too early for me to even think about hyping for the 747. However there’s only one version I want the 747-4F in Atlas or UPS livery. Then I call it a day.

Freighter wise, the Atlas is also on the top of my list together followed by the KLM and cargolux livery.

PMDG 747 for MSFS:
Development on the 747 product line started back in January, and is progressing apace. I mention this specifically because the 747 happens to be our traditional flagship- so we have some unexpected and very exciting things planned for this product line. Stay tuned here for some progressive updates on this project as we go forward. Mathijs and I are having a cultural clash internally as we try to balance his desire to “share what we are doing as we do it!” against my compulsive need to “stay quiet and get the work done, THEN show it.”

We shall see who wins.

Personally, images mean nothing to me. We know it will look great and just seeing images tells us nothing about when it will be released. Look at the FBW380. We have seen beautiful images for a few years now. I know there is a lot more that goes into an airplane than just a nice textured model.

Its PMDG and they don’t rush things (not bad as Fenix though) but my guess is quarter 4 2025 to quarter 1 2026 release would be a good guess. Don’t get too excited just yet.

The 777 topic started in jan 2021, so i think we are right on scedule with the 747  lol

. I’m hoping 2025 release

Me too but the 777-300ER will hold me off until then.

Latest update from PMDG forum

PMDG 747 for MSFS:
The 747 development process continues and is ongoing. We still have a few pieces of the 777 series to finish, but members of the team have been moving over to 747 and that fleet is now getting an increasing amount of attention from development operations. I am going to mention essentially this same bit of information over and over again for a number of months, which historically upsets one subset of the user base- but please know that I’m mentioning it so that it begins to become part of our normal update lexicon- since the 747 release is moving closer now!

I want this plane more than any other in the sim honestly. I am so excited to just see that it’s coming closer and closer!

I am looking forward to this one as well, but it’s going to be a while I’m sure. I wouldn’t expect it before next spring at the earliest, given the 777F still hadn’t entered internal beta testing as of last weekend, and then after that is the 777-200 lineup. If RSR’s past comments are still accurate, somewhere along the way the 737 MAX “might just show up on the Store” (paraphrasing). All that before the 747 comes along.

It will obviously come after the MSFS 2024 launch and will likely be offered for both 2020 and 2024.

It will be really interesting to see what does the SDK for 2024 bring to the devs. Hopefully, lessons from 2020 would’ve been learnt.

From the PMDG website:
[04OCT24] So What Is Going at PMDG? - PMDG Simulations

PMDG 747 for MSFS:
This project has been underway since January and is coming along just beautifully. With each product we have released for MSFS, we have found new ways to embrace even high levels of detail and quality and the 747 is going to continue that upward trend. We might see a first software build of this iconic airplane (and long-time-PMDG-Flagship!) before MSFS24 releases and that will be a huge milestone for us to then begin animating the flight deck, working through the software logic and getting her ready for internal testing.

This is the first project we have built with fully customized 3D scanning from inside and outside of the aircraft, along with high detail images taken of all of the aircraft’s exterior surfaces using drone technology. This is leading to incredibly well sculpted models that accurately capture even the really hard-to-model spots where compound curves can look different from all angles.

You can see how the detail scanning techniques capture the area around the exterior of the cockpit windows, and how we are even modeling the framework of the aircraft in order to ensure accuracy of the shape and in anticipation of some of the new gameplay features of MSFS24:

We do not currently have a projected release date for the 747, as it will be heavily impacted by how smoothly (or not) the transition to MSFS progresses. We will keep you posted as to progress, and we will be bringing you more in-development updates on this project than we traditionally have in the past, as those seem to be pretty popular with you all.

Someone has identified it as from a 747-100.

747-100???

I thought they were making 747-400

They might well be doing the -400, but the teaser image from last month for the “mystery project,” the one posted this weekend, are certainly not from the -400. And Rob did state specifically it is NOT from a -200.

Ugg. Personally no interest in the 100. Why not make and show off the queen of the skies -400. Why do devs pick less popular or smaller models
