PMDG Douglas DC-6

Yea agree under 30 starts to feel bad and I definitely want it locked to 30 on my current hardware. But I was just saying that 45 is plenty but as you rightly say everyone has different tolerances and priorities. That’s why we have settings lol

Cheers Baracus250. Agreed :+1:

Yes, many settings on PC.

On Xbox, are there also settings or is everything fixed because everyone has the same hardware?

For track-ir too. Anything below 45 will give me major eyestrain and headace.

Does the DC6 have a retrofitted modern radio
/Navunit to make it compatible to a modern airspace?

Yes, it has the option for a GNS430.

Still love the DC-6. I took a break from her over the last year but decided to add her back to my OnAir company now operating in South America. It’s so nice to have the performance back without messing around with dev mode. She still flies like a dream and in my mind is still one of the best quality addons for MSFS.

Here she is heading towards the Andes from Santiago, onward to Buenos Aires.

Nothing like manual power management and proper old school procedures like DME arcs and NDB approaches!

Has anyone found a fix for the PMDG DC-6 constantly needle hunting? For a lot of people, when gyropilot is on localizer mode, it will capture the frequency then turn towards the localizer PERFECTLY.

Then, it will bank too far left, overcorrect right, then overcorrect left, then overcorrect right, then overcorrect left, then overcorrect right, then overcorrect left —etc etc etc - it makes flying the correct outbound course on a VOR very tedious and it makes GPS flying inefficient because your plane is constantly banking rather than flying wings level.

I found a thread on the PMDG forum that links to 2 other threads where other people have had the same problem.

If anyone has a fix, please post here!! Complete MSFS and DC6 uninstall/reinstall doesnt seem to work. Deleting packages folder doesnt work. Removing everything from the community folder doesnt work.

It’s concerning. I have the same issue and I read in Rob’s last post that they (PMDG) have not been able to replicate the issue in-house.

It’s pretty weird right? I have no idea what could be causing it to occur for some people but not others. You’d think PMDG would just install a bunch of mods and other aircraft on one of their in house computers to see what happens

Hmmm don´t worry the community folder content has nothing to do with a specific installed third party aircraft.
Mods do not interfere with a specific airplane flight model and autopilot behaviour, but are in 99% liveries of random aircraft, and one or two default aircraft overhauls.
These folders don´t have one line of script code in common with the DC-6, but if you feel better you can try and empty the community folder (only to have the same bug again).

it is 100% happening to me every single time i fly the plane. i can throw the gyropilot on and it will hold a heading rock steady. the moment i select localizer mode the plane oscillates back and forth (albeit gently) until i turn it off.

i had opened a ticket with pmdg a while back and the rep who i corresponded with admitted that he experienced the issue “once” during some testing he did and that he would raise the issue with the develeopment team.

that was months ago and i never heard anything back.

MSFS20 is updating constantly, not so on the third part airplanes like the PMDG DC-6. It requires ages for a bug to be fixed. The same was for the DC-6 P3d version. Thank you PMDG.

That is a very good point. While product maintenance may appear to be of secondary importance to new product development, its impact upon customer satisfaction cannot be overlooked. In the 1990’s, Cessna expanded the Citation service center network all over the United States. The goal was to have a regional service center nearby for all US Citation operators. They firmly believed that good product support meant customers would stay with the Cessna product line when they looked for a new aircraft. By the end of the decade, they had seven different Citation models in production in Wichita.

The great developers that we have making products for us are committed to going through the pain of trying to keep their modules functional in a sim that is constantly evolving and changing. It is not easy but many of us that have been here since the beginning can clearly see who they are and will readily buy their next model simply because they have proven themselves to us during this time of constant challenges. The ones that offer a good product out of the gate, and then let it languish as they move on to other projects, I suppose that they are noticed as well. They certainly are by me and I base my current and future purchase decisions accordingly.

I was extremely impressed by the DC-6 early on but as the learning curve has plateaued, the shortcomings now make themselves more apparent. I hope it sees some love soon, to keep the module on par with the iconic aircraft that it represents.

To be honest I don’t mind the lacking localizer gyropilot. It has forced me to become better at chasing the radials and anticipating the turns based on speed, altitude and how many degrees the turn is. It’s so rewarding when everything works out as planned.

This is wrong, different mods can absolutely interfere with one another.

Hmmm I never had any mod interfering with specific cockpit instruments. If something happened it was only liveries disappearing
