PMS50 GNS530 mod

Scorpion, Thank you very much for your MOD, attention and useful tips! I will use them in my flights. It is pleasure to fly with your 530 MOD.

Another one. Freeware, not getting paid, not hired by MS and does a better job than developers. Thank you, you’re a hero.

“if your flight plan has the same airport for Departure and Arrival, GPS is not able to calculate RNAV Approach at all”

I tested KCLM ZEGET ORCUS WATTR KCLM

No problem at all the rnav approach was ok. Did you set KCLM as both departure and destination into the GPS ?

Quite a long flight. If you are able to reproduce that on a shortest flight it would help me.

Now it may be come from the sim itself. Did you try to reproduce with another aircraft (ex TBM930) ?

Thank you very much @ScorpionFilm422 for your quick answer and your fast work!
I’ll will try that tonight if I can and this time, I will record the flight and provide a video. I will also try it with a new plane after.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

In my flightplan was only KCLM to KCLM. No any fix in between. Then I added RNAV Approach. And you was absolutely right - at the video my MOD version was 1.0.3!!!

Tested KCLM KCLM with no other WP. Flying to the North HDG mode for 5 minutes, then load Approach RNAV 26 transition WATTR, then activate approach and switch to NAV mode.
All Ok for me.
What is your issue exactly ?

@ ScorpionFilm422

Great Job with your GNS530 Mods. There is no way I can thank you enough.

I see a few others are doing Mods for the GNS530, do various levels.

I am going to assume that adding these Mods into the Mix, with yours will potentially cause things to break down, so not a good idea to do.
So, are you keeping an eye on some of these other Mods, and if they have done something missing in yours, considered (How do I put this
) learning from their Example.

I am still not that familiar with the Real GNS530, but have downloaded the official Garmin Documentation, so I can become more informed.

One thing that struck me – On the Real Garmin when it is first turned on, it tells you the current Database info.
Is it worth considering adding that to the Sim GNS530, to make clear what database the GNS530 is actually using
ie the default MSFS database, or some updated database.

Does this make sense, or am I talking Crazy ?? I don’t know enough about this to know !!!

I am sure was some mistakes from my side. But now with v1.0.5 RNAV and ILS Approaches perfect!

Hi @ScorpionFilm422,

I just did a quick flight again, and loved the new fixes ! Now the numbers and letters are not overlapping anymore.

Another thing I noticed during my last flight is that it is not possible when pushing the PROC button in flight to select a procedure for another airport except for the destination airport of your flight plan.
Here is a quick video to show you what I mean:

Is it a Microsoft limitation or is it something that could be implemented ?

Many thanks !

It is completely normal to me. Why do you want to select an approach/arrival to another airport then your destination? It doens’t make sense to me. So I think it is also in the real world GNS530 like this

If you have to divert for weather purposes you change your flightplan, including a new arrival and approach

Typically you would switch to Heading mode, enter direct to your alternate, then load or activate your approach, then back to Nav mode.

Completely agree.
It would be a non-sense to select an approach for another airport than the destination one. So First change your destination airport by a Direct To and then you can select an approach for it.

Generally, when you change something in your flight plan while in NAV mode, you have to be very careful about what you do. The best is to synchronize HDG, then turn on HDG mode, then change your flight plan and, if all is correct, go back to the NAV mode.

Hi,

Well on the contrary ! This can be actually VERY useful in case of an unplanned ENROUTE diversion as opposed to an ALTERNATE diversion.

“So First change your destination airport by a Direct To and then you can select an approach for it” Yes, this works, you are right. But it is just adding one extra steps and workload to the pilot. And believe me, when you have to divert midflight and throw all you log and flight plan to the bin, there is already a lot to think about. And especially if the weather comes into play.

And also agree with the HDG mode first.

In real world, this function is implemented by Garmin in the GNS. And I think there is a good reason for it

I am just trying to contribute to your project with my feedback and little experience.

Best,

Should I be able to load a new FP into the SIM’s GNS530, when I am flying ?

Can the RL unit save & recall FPs ? It would seem that the SIM one cannot.

Maybe I am missing it ??

What I would like to be able to do is to (maybe Cheat), and at any time, load a FP, typically generated by an App like “Little NavMap”

I realize that is not REALISTIC, but manually entering a complex FP into the Sim’s GNS530 is equally NON-Realistic, using MOUSE to move the controls. Real PITA

What I would like to see added to the SIM version, is a CHEAT “Load FP” option

Out of interest, can the RL GNS530, store and recall Multiple FPs ???

If so, the above idea of generating FP outside of the GNS530 (in the sim), is not so unreasonable

Ok that’s true but in any case I think the MSFS kernel will not be able to do that.

Now it’s easy to change the destination airport and then to load your approach.

Yes, the RL 530 can store and recall FPs. The problem with the sim is MSs implementation of flight plans, I don’t think there is a way to hook into it yet

In the X-Plane version the plans are stored external to the sim when you save. I used that as a way of getting them in to. Export them from Littlenavmap, copy them to the right folder, then use the 530 in the sim to load it in. It worked a treat, and it would be nice to replicate that here, if possible.

Writing that in my todo list but probably not possible today if Asobo doesn’t provide the necessary fonctions.
Will check that when I have time.
