[Polls] Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) Sim Update 16 Feedback

I am afraid that nothing will be done about these texture blurry problems, I mean we are not new on msfs and we know when they introduce problems in sim updates most likely we always keep them. Also some time ago I heard that su16 is the last sim update for msfs2020. Sorry for the negativity but I don’t expect msfs Asobo to listen to us. Maybe they even read our comments, but they won’t change the way things are

I honestly don’t understand how SU16 was released in this state. Runway markings, taxiway lines, and signage are all extremely blurry and only become sharp when you get very close, creating an awful pop-in effect. The same applies to terrain textures when flying everything looks downgraded and smeared until you’re almost on top of it.

How did the devs think this was acceptable? Trading visual quality for performance at this scale is just embarrassing. Flying like this kills immersion completely, it’s a huge step backwards. A flight simulator should never regress in visuals like this you should be ashamed to ship the sim in this condition. My feedback is simple, restore proper texture LOD and clarity on both Xbox and pc. Don’t sacrifice visuals just to make performance look good on paper. A flight simulator that looks this blurry undercuts the whole purpose of realism.

Funny this has actually happened with a Vizio 4K TV of mine. Latest firmware update is incompatible with Youtube 2K/4K resolution codecs. So now it’s limited to 1080P mode in the Youtube App. We tossed the TV in the trash. Never again!

Here’s my 2 cents, for what it’s worth - very little today!

I think if you check it, you’ll find that despite the FPS gains of DLSS, etc. if sharp instruments is your goal, you are much better off using TAA.

As far as Depth of Field goes, turn it off. In photography, this parameter determines what distances from the camera lens will be in focus. Different aperture (lens openings) settings will affect the focus range of the lens, e.g. wide open = small depth of field, closed down = larger depth of field. If you want to maximize sharpness everywhere in MSFS, then it stands to reason that you wouldn’t want to introduce ANY of these depth of field special effects…thus turn it off. If you intentionally want to experiment with these effects to create more realistic photos, videos, etc. then leave it on.

Bottom-line: Anti-aliasing: TAA; Depth of Field: off

Agree on DoF off. For anyone interested, I am seeing acceptably sharp instruments with DLSS/Quality on 310.3.0 with preset K and recent NVIDIA drivers (PC parts in my profile).

How? Ive tried all the presets and DLAA with DLSS etc and my eyes just seeing out of focus/blurriness or LOD is super super short to the point I cant even see what the FMCs are saying unless I really zoom in.

I just use dx12 with TAA and FG. Wish DLSS was like TAA where you dont have ghosting and the cockpit is sharp and readable from head view to fmc.

I would love to use DLSS but dont think my stubborn brain will be able to adjust to ghosting, blurriness and cant read or see what the fmcs are saying unless you zoom really in on them

How I got DLSS 310.3.0 with preset K to work in SU16 was by using DLSS Swapper. There are other threads discussing that so I will just say here that with DLSS/Quality on my PC there is minimal smear and ghosting is nearly eliminated with recent NVIDIA drivers. Could be worth a try, or not.

Ill look into it but im taking a break from flight simming since su16 dropped. Its totally taken away the enjoyment because im consistently trying to find a way to make it better. I went back to 2024 SU2 and I cant fly on 2024 due to the bloom and some kinda of Brightness filter on it where it looks like there is a brighht film in front of it even with the EV setting turned way down.

If you decide to give it a try, I’m using the same settings in 2024, along with Dynamic settings. Cheers!

Agreed.

If you want to hear something funny, last night I was doing a Salt Lake City to LAX sunset flight. I live on the east coast but enjoy flying in the west. The sunset was looking pretty gorgeous outside the cockpit window with Vegas just north on my right side. I went back and forth between cockpit and exterior for views and thought it looked better from inside because the exterior views had the lens flare. So, I decided to turn off the lens flare and went back to the exterior view and thought to myself, why haven’t I turned this off a long time ago? haha. I mean I had always left it on because, well yeah it’s a pretty cool effect but honestly, it looks so much better without it. I don’t think 2024 even has it. But I hate how the sun looks like a star instead of a sun in 24. Sunsets just aren’t the same in 24.

That has happened to me a few times, but not specifically after this update.

Find the Rolling Cache folder and delete that one file inside it manually. Then launch the sim and set its value - ideally 8 GB.

  1. The Bing Map data on the World Map is still terrible as you zoom all the way in. That zooming-in is crucial whilst making a flight plan through the valleys in a mountainous region.
  2. While flying, I haven’t seen any difference in the mountain texture. The DEM is crooked where it was crooked before - even in the latest World Update areas.

Please specify the areas where you have been flying.

I have experienced poor texture in the Caribbean, Australia and Brazil. Amazon forest is devoid of trees except for a few thickets here and there.

The difference is without calling anyone out and meaning this in general is difference in critical viewings. There’s some people who are critical and can notice a change instantly, then there are people who need a few weeks to notice it, then yiu have people who are completely fine with it and it not on the top of their list, then you have people who dont want to make anyone mad and cant seen anything wrong. Thats where this thread has gone here and there.

I for one noticed it right away and same with many others.

The best solution is put in a ZLOD slider from 15-23 and let us users optimize the levels ourselves on all ..this can go for both sims too

That’s not the problem. I’m using an “average” system, with an HD screen but not 4K, the settings are on “high” with some adjustments on my part (I had lowered the TLOD to 150 but since this SU16 I’m able to increase them again), and I don’t have blurrier textures than before (it happens that they are a little, it depends a lot on the servers, it seems, but in any case not as blurry as what I see on some screenshots), no or very little “poppin’”, no CTD and a fluidity that is now incomparable. So I wonder: What is the common point in the settings of those who have problems and do I have specific settings? (I don’t use DLSS, for example, I don’t know…)

The reason for this is the monitor size they are using. I use a 65in 4k TV so of course I’m gonna notice it. However, I might not notice it if I was playing on a 15in laptop or monitor.

I’ve been resorting to turning AMD sharpness setting up to 200 and even adding more sharpness on my TV to get some resemblance of what it used to be. Crazy huh?

We shouldn’t have to take these measures…

I find that SU16 has significantly degraded the quality of aerial images and broken a product that gave me complete satisfaction. I fly mainly in Europe with 1440p resolution on PC. Now the images are blurry and the colors unrealistic with a kind of green filter. Roads and rocks turn green. It’s really ugly. There is no longer any consistency between the resolution of the ground and that of the planes. I have the impression of flying on blurry photography. This situation is not acceptable because no one asked for this major change in FS2020. I demand a return to SU15 aerial imagery with the high resolution as it was before.
