The Esterel massif in southeastern France is ochre in color regardless of the daylight. This is the nature of the terrain. You can verify this by searching for the word Esterel on the internet or on Wikipedia.
Well, for what itâs worth - another unidentified update came in today.
Hello @TallestParsley2,
Todayâs update is not unidentified. It is the regular monthly Navdata update, and we announced it on the forums here:
Thanks,
MSFS Team
Ok. Thank you.
Thatâs about every month. ![]()
Itâs been two months now, and I still canât understand why a beautiful game was deliberately downgraded by its publisher.
The ground textures have become ugly and unrealistic. Now the tiles are images converted to grayscale and brightened (Hue Saturation Lightness technique), then artificially recolored using gamma correction using random green or magenta. The result is colors that are too bright and unrealistic. Furthermore, the tree textures, which fit perfectly in the SU15, are now too dark, and there is too much contrast. Here are some screenshots from France. The loss of quality (and beauty) is undeniable.

I am 72 years old and have been a Flight Simulator user since the beginning (1983). I am extremely shocked by this new strategy.
For me, also using SamScene NY City Times, the tall building at the UN Headquarters is gone too.
When comparing scenery in SU15 and SU16 use the same time of the day.
An hour later, it will not change anything in the color and quality of the textures. I think.
When i compare i always use the exact same conditions.
Same place, distance, altitude, weather, time of day, etc.
Thatâs the only way to compare.
2months in SU16 that no1 wanted to be launched from beta and scenery still popping in and breaking all immersion.
I am 87 and even more saddened by the deterioration of scenery.
The difference is so obvious that you donât need to pinpoint the exact time of the day, give and take a few hours or shift from clear skies to partially cloudy wonât change the result: SU16 is the biggest degradation and downgrade MSFS20 has ever gone thru so far.
Low altitude resolution set low, LOD broken and popping issues must be solved by the developers but it seems like they still choose to remain silent over our issues after months.
The difference between SU15 and SU16 is like night and day, in particular in non-TIN areas which is most of the world.
However, replying to myself and keeping it just and fair, I must confess the new tiles look awesome from high altitude, hereby Iâm just dropping an example of high altitude ground looks, on cruise in between Aksum and Gondar, Ethiopia :
and one from the UK
I have posted this a bunch but Iâll repeat it here. I have a very good, not state-of-the-art, AMD system running 1440P and have no degradation or popping scenery issues since SU16. Therefore, it not not broken or degraded for everybody. It is obviously a big issue since there are so many complaints here, but itâs not as simple as âSU16 is brokenâ.
Try flying in the broken places that are well documented throughout this thread, not just the places that you say work for you. A video showing you flying through the documented broken places with no issues would be a big boost to your claim.
I also have an AMD setup from the processor to the video card. So far, I have not had any problems. Makes you wonder. However, I have not specifacly flown in most of the places talked about here. Which makes me wonder again, why in just some places?
I have submitted my questions on this topic. We need as many as possible to do the same.
I think itâs where you fly, this is over middle of Germany @ 24000ft, & those tiles in the middle-distance are all over the place colour-wise - or the tiles in the foreground are too green?
My pc setup is similar to Roadspiderâs- fairly high-end AMD cpu & gpu)
The TLOD is 400 so not much pop-up, but itâs the colours, which I thought would be the same for everyone?
Some areas have better baseline quality than others. I expect that those saying they donât see any degradation are flying in areas with a higher baseline imagery or just arenât as optically aware of the ground scenery when flying.
The difference between what existed before and what we have now is a stark downgrade and a real slap in the face to customers who have trusted Asobo/MS over the past few years. Many of us have invested a lot of time, money and energy in our at home simulators. It is more to us than just a regular game, but a passionate hobby. To have this happen in the way it has without any explanation or justification is particularly heartbreaking.
I do hope this is at least commented on in the developer stream next week, even if the news is basically âwe didnât want to have to degrade it, but we had to for XYZ reasonâ would be more than adequate.
