[Polls] Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Sim Update 5 Feedback (PC/Xbox/PS5)

Honestly, I haven’t looked for one specifically. There are definitely threads where players report stuttering issues - especially since SU5, where there seem to be more related problems overall. But I’m not sure if there’s an actual bug report for the specific issue we were testing, which is stutter that occurs when panning the view from the OVHD to the MCDU.

If you decide to create a bug report thread for it, I’d gladly join in and share my findings, along with the workaround I’ve been using.

Maybe I’m dreaming, or maybe a hotfix got rolled out tonight, but I just finished a flight back to the way it was when all was great. I did a 4 hour mission that was smooth as silk and then loaded up in Fly Tampa’s recently updated KLAS. Perfection.

Things I did right before awesomeness occurred:

I dropped frame gen to “None”, disabled Asobo base trees, re-enabled my current favorite tree mod “Seasons Enhanced mod for MSFS 2024”, then re-enabled photogrammetry and dropped my LOD as low as it would go (which I tried before) and loaded into a mission. My fps didn’t drop a frame. I then pushed the LOD up to 100, perfection again, then 150. Smooth as silk. The only thing I don’t think I’ve played with yet was in dropping frame gen completely. I know I’ve tried the other two settings, but none works flawlessly for me.

I’ve NEVER disabled photogrammetry in 2024 until tonight. Maybe just doing that cleared things up. I doubt the dropping LOD and then back up again did it, but I did all the changes I mentioned in one go, not thinking it would help anything, but just wanting to get one more flight in before I snooze. Now it’s 1:30 am, 5:30am wake up and I’m uploading a quick craptastic video I did with my phone. No audio of the sim since I had headphones on, and since recording via the phone, stopped the video to land. I’ll give it a much tougher test tomorrow night and record with my screen recorder of choice, Action.

“disabled Asobo base trees” how to do it? Thanks

Not sure that was the culprit. I’m leaning more towards either the toggling off of photogrammetry, running the sim and then enabling it again, or other settings, like setting Frame Generation to none (at least in my case).

But to answer your question, Go to Marketplace > My Library > type “Tree” in the search on the top right and it’s something like “Asobo Trees”, and it’s in the “MSFS Base” package. Prior to that in an earlier flight, I disabled all of my tree addons. I had bought three from the marketplace and only then turned back on “Seasons Enhanced mod for MSFS 2024” which was a purchase from a few months ago.

So far, so good with SU5 for me still. Another flight from KELM to KDCA.

This time I moved up from the Vision Jet to the Honda Jet. And let’s just say, good thing that flight was not real life. lmbo! I need a bit more practice.

I was finally able to get my PC running again and jumped into a flight. I adjusted my graphics settings down to a mix of medium and high, from mostly high, and still had terrible stutters at KMIA in the Fenix. I went into settings and changed from TAA to FSR3 for anti-aliasing. This change bumped my FPS to the 60-80 range and made everything run smoother. Just had to deal with the slightly blurry avionics. For the first time in a week, I was able to fly about a two-hour flight with no issues.

After highly praising Asobo in my previous post in this thread I’m afraid I’m going to have to reduce my given scores: using the sim normally this morning but I found myself in a position where all my settings were reset to default. This happened after experiencing a DXGI error (for the first time ever) and after the resulting CTD I restarted the sim to find the dreaded first time install dialogs.

What disappoints me most is due to my very high end system specs plus a very clean Windows 11 install on a PC that is only ever used for MSFS2024. Genuinely - I don’t even browse on this PC. Not totally relevant but also I’ve a career of 40 years worth of PC software development so there’s not much about good PC configuration that I’ve not come across in my time. If Asobo’s software can’t be robust in these circumstances then it’s a very poor job especially after 5 SUs meant to be addressing sim stability.

9800x3D - RTX5090 - 64GB - 1gbps LAN connection (using CAT6) - 1TB nvme

It’s probably worth mentioning that thank goodness I didn’t lose my custom controller settings. In fact the whole app data folder structure was intact so I’m not sure why the sim thought it was a fresh install.

/rant over

Very smooth experience here, after removing Mamudesign add-ons.

Much like SU4 for me. Also have slight view stutter switching from pilot-overhead-FMC etc. Usually disappears after done it a few times.

3xFG, locked 40fps, steady 120fps. TloD 300-400, dynamic setting on.

5090, 7900x3d, 64gb, trackIr, 4k, hdr.

Strange it varies so much, as it is very smooth here.

Say, what do you have set for target FPS in Dynamic settings? Assuming you are using in-game Dynamic settings and not the external altitude driven software? Thanks!

Don’t remember all the names in setting…at work. But:

In msfs2024: lock fps to 40.

Dynamic setting ON (Not using the ‘other’ dynamic program. Caused all kind of issues for me).

Dlss,-dlaa in msfs.

In Nvidia app: 3xFG, preset M.

Got it. But Dynamic settings has a user selectable frame rate target. Are you also setting this to 40 FPS to match your frame rate limit of 40? Just wondering. I have a 60 FPS target for my 60 FPS frame rate limit (in the Nvidia app, not in-game) and am getting 60 FPS most of the time.

(Stand by. Shortly back home).

Not using any VSYNC, GSYNC etc. Have a 240hz monitor. No tearing whatsoever, so turned these off, even if fps might drop below 120 sometimes.

NVIDIA APP:

DLSS override model - super resolution: preset M.

DLSS Frame Gen - Fixed 3x.

DLSS Super res - 3d app.

IN GAME MSFS2024:

AA - DLSS.

DLSS - DLAA.

Max fame rate - ON, set to 40.

Dynamic setting - ON, set to 40.

TloD 300-400, rest is ULTRA/HIGH.

This gives steady 120fps in most situations. Fenix, payware airport, BATC/Vatsim etc. If it drops below 120 (typical pmdg737) it is still smooth with no tearing.

I can also run without FG, as I see some still do. But then GPU works much more, higher temps, noise, watts etc. With 3xFG locked 40fps it also gives the CPU more headroom - seemingly reducing stutters(?).

5090, 7900x3d, 5120x1440(almost 4k), 240hz, 64gb ram, PG ON, Chaseplane, FSR+, GFX, TrackIR, hdr.

MSFS 2024 – SU5 LOD/Streaming Bug Report (EHAM Freezes & False GPU Warning)

Issue Summary
Since SU5, MSFS 2024 shows reproducible instability when using higher Terrain LOD values (≥ 300), especially at large airports such as EHAM. The sim freezes during loading or mid‑flight, triggers a false crash detection, and displays the “Graphics settings too high” warning even at moderate settings.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Set Terrain LOD to 300 (Object LOD is capped at 200) .

  2. Spawn at EHAM (FlyTampa or default Asobo/Gaya — issue occurs on both ).

  3. Load into the airport or begin takeoff/cli mb.

  4. Observe:

    • Freeze during loading or

    • Black screen mid‑flight → “You crashed” popup → respawn in mid ‑air

    • Warning “Graphics settings too high” appears regardless of hardware load

Observed Behavior

  • Sim freezes at TLOD ≥ 300 on large hubs (EHAM, EGLL, KJFK, KLAX).

  • False crash detection after a black‑screen stall.

  • “Graphics settings too high” warning appears even at TLOD 2 00 with:

    • no addons

    • default airports

    • normal GPU/CPU usage

  • No bandwidth issues: no low‑bandwidth messages, no streamin g stalls.

Expected Behavior

  • High‑end hardware (RTX 4080 SUPER, 4K, FG ON) should handle TLOD 300–400 withou t freezes.

  • Crash detection should not trigger during a rende ring stall.

  • Warning should only appear when GPU/VRAM limits are actual ly exceeded.

Technical Notes

  • TLOD ≥ 300 appears to overload terrain/object strea ming threads.

  • Mainthread spikes and GPU‑queue stalls lead to render ing deadlocks.

  • Issue is independent of addons; reproducible on clean de fault airports.

  • OLOD is capped at 200 in MSFS 2024, so the issue is ti ed to TLOD only.

Temporary Workaround

  • Use TLOD 200 on large a irports (stable).

  • Higher TLOD values (300–400) only stable in cruise or at small airp orts.

Request

Please review LOD‑streaming behavior, GPU‑queue handling, and the false “graphics settings too high” warning introduced in SU5.
This appears to be a regression affecting stab ilit y on large hubs.

Rather reads like a wish list request towards the last paragraph?

I removed Mama Designs and it made no difference in the sim, 2020 or 2024. Still plagued with stutters and hesitations in the last 10 minutes of any flight, any destination, any duration.

Well i just had the Nvidea app optimize msfs and most of the stutters are gone! It looks a little bit less crispy in the cockpit, but no stuttering..

Optimization of the MSFS 2024 profile in the Nvidia app also enables traffic and can set it to Ultra even if you don’t actually need it. That’s why it’s better to make the changes manually in MSFS 2024 settings.

Very smooth experiences for me yesterday. KDTW > KSFO and KLGA > KBOS in the Citation X. i9-10k, 3080, 64gb ram, 2k.

Initially, I had an issue when I first installed SU5, but it turned out to be an issue with Windows Defender which was interrupting CPU. Fixed the issue via Powershell. and the sim runs great. I fly mostly business jets and GA.
