Since the driver version seems to have an impact on performance and stability I would ask if it would make sense for MS/Asobo to make public what Version of the driver was used during the development.
Or does this not make sense?
I do not mean this in a way of recommendation, more like testet with version xyz
This could at least provide some form of baseline or fallback in case of any issues.
In VR, in the 3 planes I currently fly (C172, Vision Jet, HJet), I donāt āseeā the problem. Maybe if I looked at graphs I would see a spike, but I visually donāt see it.
I look up/down and no stutter. I have never noticed a stutter when looking up/down past the horizon.
No. The MCDU is just an example, not the core of the problem. The issue isnāt tied to any specific aircraft that uses an MCDU or even to what people casually call āairlinersā.
Thanks, that kind of statement already implies that stuttering is present, but youāre basically masking the issue by changing the settings. If that works for you, fine.
I assume youāre also playing in VR with DLSS, right? If so, did you replace the .dll files manually or are you using the NVIDIA app with DLSS override? How exactly are you configuring DLSS?
Thereās currently no solution. On high-end PCs, you can reduce (almost eliminate) the problem by setting the simās global rendering quality to very low or medium. This results in a very low LOD, and that, combined with other low settings, seems to āsolveā the problem. Unfortunately, this āsolutionā results in poor graphics quality, and you lose the beauty of MSFS2024ās modern graphics on a high-end PC. Itās also worth noting that the problem occurs even in ālightā situations, such as at default airports and with light aircraft. This is because the problem is there, and thereās little to be done about it. This, broadly speaking, is the situation. Asobo doesnāt intervene, so weāre left in the dark. It would be enough if at least it helped us understand whatās happening, if theyāre working on it, if theyāve figured out what could be causing it (I have my own idea and I think Iām not wrong⦠weāll seeā¦) and if they intend to do something or if we have to keep the sim with this serious problem, because, in fact, it is a serious problem.
Fair enough. Without knowledge of how VR works and its differences compared to 2D, its hard for me to comment. As long as youāre enjoying your flights, thatās the main thing.
I just installed the new Nvidia driver and selected custom installation to reset everything in Nvidia settings and left as is except for DLSS 4.5 set as recommended. Launched the sim put everything at ultra including AI traffic and TLOD at 400. Pmdg 777-300ER at EGLL. Initial performance smooth as buttermilk silk. Minor stutter when first initializing pan view but it remains smooth afterwards. Now Iām letting it sit at the gate for a bit to see if performance deteriorates. This is where usually even if I pan around several times it maintains stutter. Iāll update after it sat for a bit
Update: still extremely smooth after having it sit for about 20 minutes.
Next test to see how smooth it remains after few hours sitting at the gate
2nd Update: after sitting at the gate for almost one hour the sim remains extremely smooth.
On that note, is it only me or has any else noticed the apparent lack of input from any of the mods in many of these threads lately? It seems to me they were much more involved in giving guidance and/or edits.
Itās simple, they donāt publish because the problem exists and isnāt tied to a small group of users, itās not hardware-related, itās not Windows version-related, or anything else. Yes, some users may have it more or less severely, but generally speaking, the problem is there and you canāt get around it, except by reducing the global rendering settings to a minimum, making the sim graphically ugly. A user with a 5090 and a latest-generation processor should be able to enjoy the simulator at decent detail. Oh, and on YouTube and various social media, you have to be wary of those who patch the problem (Iāve already seen this), playing with the camera angles, and making it appear, through proper video editing, that the problem isnāt there. I understand them; itās not a good sight for those who make professional YouTube videos.
It just hit me that he canāt really force that stuttering in VR when changing view for a very simple reason.
He doesnāt whip his head around like we do with a mouse or by snapping the camera with keys. In VR he physically turns his head naturally, so thereās no sudden artificial āview switchingā that would cause that effect.
To actually force something like that in VR, heād basically have to jerk his head around like crazy⦠and at that point heād probably end up messing up his neck vertebrae LOL
In the Dev Q&A Seb talked about finding / fixing threading issues - I wonder if the stutters might be related to that (meaning, some change has inadvertantly introduced a threading issue).
Ok, Iāll take your word for it. It just seems to me everyone posting is using an aircraft that has an MCDU.
What do you mean my statement already implies I have stuttering? I have a 5080 with 16gb vram trying to run two 4k screens. Of course I have to turn down settings or I will get stutters. Who doesnāt tune their settings for smooth, stutter free flight? I donāt tune my settings so I have stutters. lol.
Sorry, not following the logic here. If you are implying I turned down my settings to get rid of this one specific stutter, that would be an incorrect assumption.
Maybe I should word it like this. I donāt feel like I have any āunusualā, outlier type stutters. If I mess with my tlod for example, and have it set to 300 at 1000 ft coming into 3rd party DC with 3rd party scenery I will start getting stutters because I run out of vram, but they wonāt be only when I look up/down. And they would almost always be followed by the gpu vram warning. Hopefully that makes more sense.
Yes, VR, DLSS 4.5 Performance, Preset M. Nvidia app only. No tweaks in the nvidia control panel. No FPS caps or targets. My tweaking is pretty vanilla. Sim vr settings, PiPlay settings, and Preset M in the Nvidia app.
Lol! And good point. There is no snapping of camera views and constant 360 spins in my VR world. I want realism.
For me, that is the entire point of VR. I want to be IN the world of msfs24, not watching it. That is not a dig, and there are certainly pros and cons, personal preferences, financial ability, physical ability to handle VR, etc.
But that begs the question, if we are supposed to be simulating being pilots, whether in VR or 2D, what irl pilot snaps there head around like a lunatic and can do fast, continuous, 360 degree rotations like they are in The Exorcist?
I donāt know what the cause or solution is. I certainly hope you all get a fix though!
The problem with stuttering is itās a very subjective thing, and Iād wager many people that claim they donāt have it simply arenāt aware of it, in much the same way that many people canāt detect 3:2 pulldown and incorrect playback speeds for video. It could also be anything from single dropped frames, to multi-second pauses, and will be different for everyone. Itās also compounded in VR by almost no-one running native frame rates, so thereās usually some kind of frame doubling/smoothing going on and that brings extra artifacts (eg ghosting) to the table too, although I canāt say Iāve ever noticed it hide the (thankfully minor) stuttering I experience. This new xbox mode really interests me, but Iām away from home this week so canāt try it until the weekend.
Sorry, Iām not sure if weāre talking about the same ghosting? You might be referring to the blurry speed/altitude tapes on the glass cockpits (?) whereas Iām referring to the VR headsets having to interpolate your movement and invent extra frames to make up the refresh rate shortfall, which almost always results in a double-vision effect thatās most noticeable if looking sideways.
I was getting stuttering on xbox series x once Su5 kicked in but now Iāve had to turn everything to low or off, PG off, traffic off, no Atc use, no efb use, several addons deleted, mostly scenery, car traffic, enhanced airport graphics, several 3rd party airports just so to have a smooth flight. Did a short haul earlier in the inibuilds a340 from mallorca to Lisbon and I never experienced one stutter. It s an extremely lonely existence at moment for console players
No, not the speed tape. That never bothered me. I am talking about actual ghosting of the whole plane when in external view, or the pillars when in cockpit view.
All I can say is that I am extremely happy with my VR experience. I went from an Index with 14PPD and fresnel lenses with god rays and glare to a PCL with 35PPD and glass aspheric lenses with no glare, no god rays, and an overall much clearer optic.
