[Polls] World Update XVIII: Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

Mismatch of terrains - yes I can relate to that. It’s as if patches of the map are sewn together using different coloured threads. It can be very distracting, I just ignore it.

The photogrammetry areas can be jarring, because they load in large blocks or compartments in the distance, and once that area runs out, the map is sewn together with the auto gen area - so brown (photogrammetry area) is abruptly sewn together with green (non-photogrammetry area). It’s really strange, but I hope it gets addressed at some point.

I think we should manage our expectations and take these photogrammetry updates with a grain of salt. They are gradually adding areas to new locations all the time, so it is still a work in progress and can look poor and unsettling at times, as if the map is sewn together abruptly into photogrammetry and non-photogrammetry areas - just fly over Chicago, Paris, or London to see what I mean.

In a product this huge, it can be complex to make things look consistent. I think best we can do is just wait for SU16 or perhaps a patch or hotfix to make the photogrammetry, LOD, and draw distances look more consistent. My biggest complaint right now are the draw distances on POIs, photogrammetry, and ground texture detail

i think to deinstall the free stuff from the last wu,to test if it fix it?
was not before,i fly most in this aeria…it ruins a lot places,i wonder this get released as is :grimacing:

After deleting and reinstalling the World Update the poi’s showed to be fine again.

To be honest, for a WU I expect at least some hand-crafted revisions to be included, why else call it WU and pack it in a separate download? If not, you could just roll it out via online services, no? But calling it WU, making a specific trailer that is obviously showing only the nice parts of it with completely different color filters resulting in something close to false advertising, suggest that the D-A-CH region was at least partially manually improved/modified/controlled. At least in Switzerland, this manual intervention is nowhere visible, the ground looks remarkably worse than what we had before and once again I wonder how something like this can pass QC. Not for the first time I wonder if the guys at Asobo really ever use the RC of their own sim before releasing an update to the public. It still does not seem so…

The main issue us that many of us who discover errors live in and are, thus, familiar with the area. So the expectations may be higher, than compared to areas like Japan, Brazil or Africa. I nean, it’s a fact that most som users are North American or European citizens. No criticism, its just what I came across, watching myself and concluding from what I read here. We’re hunan and that’s how we are.

Just go back five years and remember how many payware we needed to get what we now receive as free updates. I’m not even close to being perfect, which is why I really appreciate what the developers do for us.

Kind regards.

The annoying hill at ETSI has been removed finally. Thank you developers..

Noticeable downgrade. Just tried two flights with the H125 from Interlaken to Jungfrau and Brig to Zermatt. The area around Grindelwald used to be incredible, now it’s a mess of featureless dark green mountain slopes. Flying around the Matterhorn is sad, you could even see the downhill bike trails pre-update, now it’s all either dark green nothingness or brown dry grass. Why even doing an update when the result is worse than before and there’s no possibility to downgrade.

In my case this started BEFORE I installed WU18 yesterday, so what is causing it it must actually have been part of one of the last two mandatory start-up updates - I flew this area about two weeks ago and all still looking fine.

I tested the update for several days in several locations.
In my opinion, this is a very poorly done update. The photogrammetry areas and cities are of poor quality. The colors of the photogrammetry cities and areas are incorrect, dull and dark.

Several of you wrote about the decrease in visual quality, and in my opinion, the quality has really gotten worse.

Even though the quality has deteriorated, I have also experienced a drop in performance.

The airports are very well done, high quality. I can highlight this as a positive.

No its not, the new orthos are installed server side, you will get the new DEM and new orthos anyway - uninstalling the WU only has an effect on client side things like airports and POIs. The things people mostly complaining here are server side things (ortho streaming, PG streaming) - this you can’t influence unfortunatly

but on the other hand I see missing ortho photography in left-bottom corner → one thing fixed, another one regressed :man_facepalming: :unamused:

Well recognized. But this area is a Military part of the ETSI airbase. Manching, german
airforce.

Yes I know (I am not that far away in Upper Austria ), but the data is available, for example see google. Only Bing decided to blur it :man_shrugging:

Any official info? Perhaps some files were mixed up and we accidentally received old files?

Bing data is available. But most military areas are blurred or hidden by default.

easy to test…if this is also bad after deinstall then this is not right?

i notice from server,if you fly in buisy times, the server can not handle,it is a lot better when other have to work in my aeria
