Description of the issue: The terrain, and mountains around the aircraft in mountainous areas are very blurry, lack definition. Here is an example departing PANC.
Fly Southeast after departing 25L. The city was on the captain side, the mountains were blurry on the ground, and the city was a blob as I flew over it.

Hi @PILOTOWAWAWA
Could you please edit your post above & complete the bug report template. Unfortunately there is no way the test team can reproduce this or take any action with just the information you have provided so far.
Just open a new bug topic and copy the text into notepad, then close the new bug topic without saving. Then edit your original post above & paste the text into it & complete the appropriate sections.
I wonder if the quality of the textures does not also depend on the bandwidth available on the server side at the time the texture is downloaded. Maybe if the server is saturated or the connection on the client side is bad at a given moment, the flow is voluntarily reduced and the textures delivered in lower quality? It would be interesting if a developer could explain to us if this is the case or not…
Did you only experience this issue whilst in the SU3 Beta or beforehand?
I’m still on the main SU2 build and occasionally see some blurry terrain in the Drone camera view, however resetting the drone cam to its default position usually fixes this for me.
In SU2 I did see blurry textures. Not to this scope. Flying into KCLT last night, the terrain directly below me was blurry, with the exception of the tree groves mostly because of the terrain being covered. In PANC my original complaint place, you couldn’t tell there was a city there. Just a blob of white and grey.
What I’m noticing is that even with terrain at 300-400 LOD, Unless I’m flying directly over the scenery the terrain remains blurry, and if flying over it again long enough it will render, say if I pause, long enough it renders. If I’m moving at a higher speed (like on approach with an airliner) the terrain never develops the clarity it needs. In the distance with my field of view directly in front the terrain remains blurry. The odd thing las that the Pre-Cache setting is set to Ultra so it should have my immediate radius developed.
The only time I’ve seen clear textures is at high altitude say FL280 and higher. Which makes sense as your field of view of a given scenery tile of longer when you’re flying closer to the ground at 220-150 KTS.
Just to push additional results that are confusing to me. Simply moving the camera around causes the terrain to get blurry. Even when stationary. Here are two examples of the aircraft in the exact same spot, and notice what happens with the definition of the markers on the ground for the engine inlets.
Is this maybe the reason for the terrain definition loss? The camera view point is always moving since you are flying around and the system doesn’t allow definition of the view point?
I’ll certainly try frame generation off. AMD FSR gives me a lot of problems as I have an NVIDIA card, and it becomes a stutter fest. I have an Odyssey ark with a native 3480 * 2160. Anytime I’ve attempted a lower resolution, it always ends up with my screen being black. I’ll attempt again tho.
It may be that the Odyssey ark can only display at 3480 * 2160 (I don’t own one), in which case disregard that bullet point! You could try leaving at 3480 * 2160 but reduce the Render Scaling to, say, 65%.
I appreciate all the advice. So I tried a couple of things.
Frame Generation : Off = No difference in the blurry ground marking behaviors.
AMD FSR3 = No difference in behavior.
TAA @ 65% no noticeable loss in visual quality other than slightly loss of details, not perceivable, I can live with that, so I will be keeping this suggestion.
The behavior I discovered today really doesn’t change with any setting. The only thing that changes this behavior is the angle at which I am viewing objects. If I am looking straight down at an object, everything becomes blurry. If I am looking at it in an angle, it’s crystal clear. I am guessing this is an LOD technique perhaps?
Are you in Drone Mode when this occurs? If so could you try to see if resetting the drone camera helps fix the blurry issues for you with both airport ground textures as well as terrain?
Hello. No I am on the external camera just rotating around the aircraft. Furthermore, when I am flying in the cockpit the terrain outside blurs even with TLOD at 150-250.
The mountains also blur even at high LOD compared to 2020.
Some additional examples, departing KTPA on 01L. The runway was blurry. The terrain departing was all blurry. This was with 1.5.9.0 and terrain set at 175.
Description of the issue:
I’m currently experiencing a major issue with scenery rendering in MSFS 2024 Beta SU3. The problem is visible in the screenshots below and includes:
Detailed scenery is only rendered in a circular area around the aircraft** – this seems to match the current Terrain Level of Detail radius.
Outside of that circle, the terrain becomes blurry and looks like low-resolution placeholders** – no detailed textures or proper mesh.
Autogen objects like trees are missing in the distance**, even with all settings set to Ultra.
Bing streaming is enabled and working – data is being downloaded, internet connection is stable and fast.
No CPU/GPU bottleneck – the sim runs at 90+ FPS with headroom on both CPU and GPU.

REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

• no
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• you have a more capable system than mine (rtx4090/9800x3d/500mbps) but the stat in the fps window which is totally different to my experience is “MarkersFailed”. On my system this stays around 120. Yours is 10 times higher. I’m not exactly sure what this metric measures but I’m guessing it’s to do with the terrain engine. Not much help I’m afraid but it could be a smoking gun…
