Pop out instruments - Custom Resize (Change aspect ratio)

Hi there, I am currently building a G1000 around a 10" display and I was curious if it is possible (natively or with the use of some win utility) to change the aspect ratio of pop-out instrument.

The aspect ratio is a little more “square-ish” than I would like, and when I fullscreen on the 10" display I have an unused black bar on the sides, which makes the soft buttons not align perfectly.
(See the picture below)

Any suggestions/ideas?

I’m doing this with the app I’m working on and there are a number of limitations with the pop out windows when trying to manipulate them with software.

  1. The pop out windows have no title, and I’ve not found any way to differentiate one from the other.
  2. Each successive window is popped out as a sub-window of the first and needs to be manually separated from it.
  3. The windows can be resized and re-positioned but I’ve not found any way to adjust the aspect ratio.
  4. The pop out windows do not respond properly to touch screen presses.
I have not been able to solve any of these issues to this point and would dearly love to hear if any one has or ever does. I’m working round some of them with some pretty awefull kludges but would really like a much more elegant solution. Ideally Asobo should provide bitmaps on demand via SimConnect but I don’t hold my breath for this happening anytime soon…

Don’t resize the window after popping it out. Just move it to the new screen (even if it’s way too big for your g1000 monitor) then press alt-enter to have it go full screen. I have same screen/setup (FSM, right?) and it works just fine.

Weird behavior but it works, thanks. If I just move it and full screen it, then the aspect ratio fits.

Now (since SimUpdate 9 I believe) it is impossible to change the aspect ratio so the panels do not fit anymore. Too bad, since now the soft button labels on screen do not match the physical buttons on my hardware anymore. I get so frustrated with all the changes in the software that ruin the experience.

I am not to happy to find this post… GRRRRR

I realise this post is a bit old but, just in case others read this, I found a work-around as follows:

  • Pop out the display (Right-ALT + Enter)
  • While it is still in a window, resize the window so that the black bars no longer show (i.e. make the window narrower - the display will refresh so you can see once it’s all lined up)
  • Move the window to the destination display and press Left-ALT + Enter to make it full screen

The image should now fully fit the display.

Also, if you haven’t done so already, check out MSFS Popout Panel Manager to help automate this process.

(Note: This was done with the FlightSimBuilder G1000 (1024 x 768), Windows 11 Pro x64 v23H2 and MSFS 2020 v1.38.2.0)
