Very nicely done. Congrats!!!
Thrustmaster Warthog, Saitek Panels and an old Dell Screen. (+ Logitech Rudder Pedals)
Integrated into a studio desk with some mods. Looks and works well but always room for improvement…
MSI MEG Infinite X 10TE-843AT
CPU Intel(R) Core™ i9-10900KF
32GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
2TB SSD
2TB HD
Nice and clean setup.
And you are right, there is always room for improvements.
I built my cockpit in 2013 and still update/modify at times. That’s why I call it a constant WIP, lol.
I am flying all types of aircraft from airliners to GA and helicopters- so a type specific Cockpit what some of our simmer fellows here present was not an option for me (despite I admire most of them). I had recently an hour in an A320 simulator which was a great experience but that environment would not work for a Super Cub or Extra.
WiP is the perfect expression what’s ahead of me ![]()
That is exactly why I call my sim pit a “Hybrid”, lol.
And I have programmed my switches/buttons and rotaries to suit whatever plane i want to fly .
Nice setup.
That is a well organized setup
I now have three sims going in my garage, the PA_28 (with a C172 mod that is a WIP) which I am flying from CA to ME in one and two hour hops. My driving sim which I’m racing in an A class for iRacing NASCAR and hopefully before the end of summer a Bell 47G for some sightseeing trips. I’m way to old to do any of these in RL though.
VR sim flying/racing is my way of being young again and enjoying the thrill and challenges the sims provide.
My Spitfire Cockpit has been a long time in the building. The instruments are based around the TRC USB connect instrument though where possible I have built or 3D printed units or fascias in keeping with the 1940’s design but using the TRC electronics. You can see an original WW2 P9 magnetic compass just behind the control column - it has a TRC unit underneath with a small Magnet attached to make the real compass track with the Sim’s heading. The Controls all connect through Leo Bodnar BU0836 I/O boards.
The external screens have three HD projectors spanning though 180 degrees. I have treated these as a single virtual display and have a single window spanning around them. This is not perfect and does suffer from the distortions and aberrations discussed elsewhere in this forum.
That is incredible.
I’m nearly speechless.
Dedication.
Respect.
Work in progress, but almost finished. Cabin with dual controls, seven monitors, Saitek peripherals, self-built pushbutton panels, and instruments made with Panel Builder. It also mounts the BFF Shaker from bffsimulation.com for the reproduction of shocks and vibrations.
WOW! Truly an incredible build. Great work!
How are you getting the different camera views for side monitors?
Just added wind to my motion rig, now when I fly an open cockpit (or open the cockpit on eg the spitfire) I can get full immersion with frostbite on my ears…. Will be great for the summer though!
Currently running it through FlyPT so it is automatically tied into canopy position and windspeed.
In the simplest way. I have extended the view of the window to the right and left.
What an excellent idea. I am tempted to copy it for my Spitfire setup but things are already a bit noisy fan wise, with three projectors overhead and a fairly beefy air cooled PC and its associated separately cooled graphics processors. The Sim room can get pretty hot in the summer so the thought of frostbite round the ears is more tempting than it probably should be!
I guess the counter point is that they only get noisy when the airflow is significant, and I doubt flying with an open canopy in the spitfire is particularly quiet!
Love your setup by the way - amazing stuff. Next you’ll need to mount the whole thing on a motion platform!
Obviously will depend on fans used, but after I designed those intakes the sound went down quite notably, to the point I don’t really notice it over the other sounds in my VR headset. Obviously different for you given you are going for the less virtual type of reality, but if you have authentically loud engine sounds or headphones then probably won’t be particularly noticeable.
I have to say now that the are affordable (relatively), a motion platform has definitely been on my mind. Unfortunately my current set up literally spans the whole room so its just a dream at present. As to an ‘authentically’ loud engine - its probably within the capabilities of my setup but I am currently on good terms with my neighbors and I think that were I to turn it up to ‘eleven’ that might push those bound just a little too far!
