Yes, I would prefer a rectrabale great, even if it’s ugly. But you can land everywhere.
I see no other way since we have no spawn points in the water. We need to be able to takeoff on solid ground until the sim supports spawing in the sea.
Looking very nice btw.
I would just keep it without gear for the first release. If it gets bad feedback and folks want it, it can come later. SOOOO EXCITED already!!!
But how would you takeoff if you can’t spawn in the water?
You are correct, Im not sure if Y and F4 works without developer mode. So it must be with retractable gears
It works. And you could spawn in the air of course. But I guess nobody wants to miss the usual takeoff. So we might need some wheels until we can spawn in the water.
You can slew. You can also just start at a sea airport. Maybe I just want it sooner but I think it would be fine without landing gear hahaha.
Do we already have sea airports in the sim? And of course you can slew. Maybe as a beta version it would be fine without any gear. Wanna try this beauty as well.
Yeah there’s many free seaports I’ve seen.
Its OK guys, I will make retracts on it. Thank you for opinions.
One simple option only uses a pair of main wheels and drags the float at the back, these wheels are on a levered axle to bring them up for water landing and provide just enough clearance on paved or flat grass strips. See Ultralight floats, ultralight aircraft floats with amphib gear, amphibious ultralight aircraft floats.
What do you mean ? You can land on the water and save a flight and whenever you reload that same flight you spawn on the water at the point you saved and can just take off.
Retractable gear and of course a retractable water rudder are still a good idea of course.
That view of water below is going to be so sweet!!! Looking wonderful friend!!!
@EdamllamaB
That’s actually a good idea. But i consider this a workaround. I’m talking about native solutions of course.
You are talking about free mods. Do they add spawn points in the water? If that’s the case that would be a possible workaround too.
I am not seeing a huge difference between selecting a departure airport in the world map or just selecting a saved flight seems to be the same amount of clicks/typing.
Unless your wanting the ability to randomly spawn on any random duckpond/bit-of-ocean you like the look of That is a different issue to wanting seabases. An interesting option that may be worth pursuing.
In terms of Asobo, it seems unlikely they are going to implement seabases without at least some capability for larger IFR/ILS equipped aircraft like float Kodiaks or float Twin Otters to include them in a flight plan (even though the default flight planner is pretty hopeless for anything other than VFR at present, hopefully working title will be able to do something there).
Of course we are talking an ultralight with no night or VFR capability here but still, implementing a limited version of seabases so people can occasionally fly an ultralight VFR for a “joy flight” is probably not a huge priority. I doubt we will get actual seabases until they can be integrated into a more sophisticated flight plan system.
I am not sure what Simbrief does about seaplane bases, I assume if they have ICAO codes they can be entered. Ironically though I doubt any of the aircraft that currently float can actually load a simbrief flight, the CRJ does of course but has a serious lack of floating ability But again, not relevant to ultralights, and you need to spawn first before uploading a Simbrief plan anyway.
I am pretty sure I read somewhere that LittleNavMap has a Seaplane database but that is also only of use for landing not spawning.
You would have to prepare those flights at least. Since I’m flying in different parts of the world everytime it wouldn’t make much sense to me. But if you got one area you visit more frequently that would be an option.
But you’re right my guess is it will take years until we see the first seabases integrated in MSFS.
It seems to me what you really need is not seabases, there are very few official ones anyway compared to runways, what would work best for your use case is the ability to click on a random spot of water and make it a departure point. Currently though we cannot even do that over land.
I think what is important for the Powersolo though is it gets both retractable wheels for land operations and a water rudder for steering while floating. The float Xcub mod has both so it can be done.
Guys, it is OK Im already working on retractable wheels. No need to argue Thank you for tips, I have some idea how to fit it in. Disadvantage is that airplane is very small in comparsion to Cessna or any aircraft, but wheels need to be almost the same size due to surface bumps (I want to be realistic as possible) Therefore my tires are big in comparsion to floats. These on pictures are 18cm (7") which I think is reasonable minimum
Agreed.
