Pressure readings (ATC/ATIS/METAR) and airplane instruments need to be location based and interchangeable between InHg and hPa/mbar

In the current state, the game gives ATC and METAR information in inches of mercury exclusively which is a legacy system used previously by FSX.
This, however needs to be changed, as only US, Canada and maybe a few other countries (I don’t know if there are more and which countries) that actually use inches as a pressure measurement. The rest of the world uses hPa/mbar (interchangeable). The game needs to take this into consideration and give ATC instructions, ATIS/METAR and other reports in the measurement that is used in that country/airspace.

Also, people are suggesting that some airplanes and the current state of their instruments/avionics do not allow both measurements (e.g. Garmin G3000), or make it hard to switch between the two (vaing to go into the menu and find measurements option which is not user friendly to change and customize before each flight depending on the location).
Also, I’ve noticed personally that the tooltips for the altimeter setting can be confusing. Example: Flying Cessna 172 which has an instruments that shows both pressure values, but the tooltip being wrong for the location I’m currently flying in.

Suggestion: Since MSFS already uses real-time data from Meteoblue, why not just use the raw measurement that the services provide?
I doubt that Meteoblue feeds MSFS with inches data for Europe. I would instead assume there is some legacy global conversion that has been carried over from FSX that needs to be removed or overridden.

For the plane instruments, would it be possible to make a simple switch in some of the toolbar sections on top of the screen to just have a quick toggle between InHg or hPa? This would change the reading for glass cockpit screens, change the scale for analog altimeters if they’re not already supporting both and change the tooltips as well.

In the c172 and the 208b there isnt any option to switch between inches and qnh. This is needed for vatsim in europe.

I assume you mean the ability to switch between inches and hectopascal.

I have not tried this myself but according to the docs for the G1000, you can do the following:

Change Altimeter Barometric Pressure Setting Units

  1. Press the PFD Softkey to display the second-level softkeys.
  2. Press the ALT UNIT Softkey.
  3. Press the IN Softkey to display the barometric pressure setting in inches of mercury (in Hg).
    Or:
Press the HPA Softkey to display the barometric pressure setting in hectopascals.
  4. Press the BACK Softkey to return to the top-level softkeys.

Have you tried this? If that doesn’t work, you can always use the good ol’ conversion table from the POH:
inHg-HectoP Conversion

The alt switch in the pdf submenu isn’t there. Only shows Wind, DME, BG!, HSI FRNT, BRG2, Back and Alerts.

Well, report to Zendesk and in the meantime, I guess you can use the conversion table.

There are still no kilograms and hectopascals in the release version?

Yeah I couldn’t find the setting anywhere to change it. Bit surprising.

Some of the airplanes have the capability to display hPa. Changed in-cockpit through the actual avionics menus. I know this isn’t a solution, but wanted to mention that until a more wide range solution is implemented.

hello,

I miss the function to switch to kilograms in the weight and balance window. And on most smaller planes who use the G1000 or similar is no way to switch from inHg to hPa (hectopascal).

Would be great if you could add this functions, thanks.

Yes, we need KG in the Sim!

Yes, I don’t know what Lbs and Gal meas as well :■■■■:

Been looking for this through the menus all night… Obviously not the only one, hahaha…

dont worry i looked for this for hours its no where to be found

As my colleague said - we should get used to ‘Freedom units’. Honestly though, I was banging my head against the wall doing conversions from metric to load up my plane.

It’s hard to fly on VATSIM, when guy says: “QNH 1024” and you’ve got only mysterious “29.23”

pretty please…

This should be implented soon.

Hello There, are you guy have noticed that is not available to choose HPA as a altimeter adjustment instead of inHg? I’ve tried in C172, A320 and Cessna Logitude and I did not find a way to do that.

Thanks

In the A320 at least it’s possible. In the FCU (upper “autopilot” panel on the glareshield) there’s a second outer ring around the altimeter knob that says “inhg/hPa” on the top you can click that to switch between the settings.

For the Garmin planes we’ll just have to wait for a patch I guess.
