Project CrossKart and Juice Goose - which is your favourite?

Out of Project CrossKart and Juice Goose, which is your favourite vehicle addon? They are both priced the same, and I’m looking to buy one of them. Can’t tell which is the better choice for me. So share your experiences!

I’ve only used the Project Crosskart vehicle, so I can only speak for that. I bought it due to sheer frustration of not being able to fly any plane in 2024 as I had been used to in 2020. Since now 2024 is (for me) usable for flying planes, I didn’t drove the Crosskart much. There is nothing wrong with this addon itself, but there are some issues in general:

  • In a flight simulator you are used to cover lots of ground in decent time, with this vehicle it takes ages.
  • The terrain isn’t that beautiful anymore when you are so close, sometimes you fall through bridges, sometimes you are stuck for no obvious reason, so slew mode had been an often used tool.

On the other hand it is still fun driving around known areas and airports (uh, and altiports, so much fun to drive in the mountains!). So it is enjoyable, but do not expect too much, it is not a Flatout 2 or 1nsane  .

I bought the juice goose last week for a bit of fun. It travels across water as well.

Core Comparison

Controller Setup Optimized out-of-the-box for Forza-style gamepad mapping Tailored for responsive arcade-style ground driving in-sim

I have the Juice Goose and it’s pretty good fun with a gamepad. I’ve only really used the “Crawler” variant to cruise around, but even that can get a little speed to it and can be a handful. One thing to note, it is an electric vehicle, so all you get for engine sounds is the little hum of the batteries and electric motor. It’s detailed and thoughtfully done, but if you enjoy a good motor sound, you obviously won’t get it here. The included Goose Bowl scenery is good fun to rip around.

I don’t have Project Crosskart, but I am interested in it. Actual engine sounds are a plus, but I don’t particularly need the (I assume) extra speed - I’ve used the Juice Goose mostly for exploration. That said, either vehicle really needs handcrafted scenery. While the fidelity of base scenery takes a huge step forward in FS24, it’s still not quite there for ground vehicles. Too many broken roads or obstacles - areas with trees can be really difficult/impossible to traverse. That’s not a fault of anyone, of course. These vehicles are pushing the boundaries of what you can do in a flight sim after all. It’s just something you should definitely be aware of before spending your money.

Yes, I used an x-box controller to drive it around. Works ‘straight out of the box.’

When i use the crosskart it is great. My only concern now is they have added collision boxes to rocks I read in a thread.
This will restrict the off roading if they have. If I want to look at a POI without flying over it or trying to land somewhere, I just load in with the crosskart.
Also, some bridges have collision boxes or you sink through them, but hey, it’s all fun and discovery
Don’t have the other one.

Edit: tl;dr: What @ravenwings27 said! Custom scenery is the only way to not feel like you’ve just bought an idea rather than a usable product (as I mention below, not the fault of the addon devs!)

I like both of them, but I’ll say that FS2024 is so poorly optimized for ground vehicles due to insane amounts of rock piles being added to nearly every dirt road on the planet that I’ve given up and can’t really recommend any ground vehicle, not at any fault of either dev.

The most fun I ever had with either was either in 2020 or when using a custom scenery that had proper exclusions and terrain improvements. Stock scenery is just not very fun to explore with ground vehicles yet. Roads go sideways, bridges don’t work correctly most of the time, rocks everywhere, getting too close to trees will launch you into the air.

In a vacuum though, I find the Crosskart too touchy for my tastes, and the sound makes my ears bleed (probably the real thing would, too… but it’s awful to listen to) Thus, the Juice Goose is something I’d be more likely to drive for more than a few laps as an overlanding/exploration vehicle despite the tires not feeling as grippy (both are slippery/floaty due to sim limitations I assume, but the Juice Goose moreso.)

Mind if make a poll? (I’m going to do it and if you’d rather not just let me know  )

Favorite Off-Road Land Vehicle in MSFS
  • Project Crosskart (GotFriends)
  • Juice Goose (//42)
  • Something Else (you tell me!)

I would like to say that in MSFS24 the rocks no longer have collision and haven’t for a while, except the giant piles. The real issue is that the hit boxes on trees for collisions is massive and go way beyond the 3d model bounds. This is extra annoying because a lot of the small shrubs and bushes have those hit boxes as well.

Hmm, fairly certain it was added back in with SU5. Have had quite a few bush landings go wrong because of them.
