I see this too with a Varjo Aero.

If you enable eye tracking you will probably no longer see this box.

Eye tracking is enabled, you can see the box in different locations in the images. It’s a even more apparent artifact in the headset as peripheral vision is very sensitive to brightness variations.

When “inside” the clouds the sim seems to add an additional layer to help add to a fullness effect of being in the cloud. This is a flat texture that fills the screen. When this additional layer is used the inner and outer regions will show this brightness artifact.

Still seeing this effect in latest build. Only in certain conditions like flying through clouds…

Quest 3, I have this artifact as well. I commented on another thread where people had a box in dark locations, which I didnt have happen, but when flying in clouds I can easily see the darker box.

Never had this when i fly in clouds, how do you reproduce this exactly?

When flying through clouds, it depends on brightness. I see it mostly in dark rain clouds. Changing the view by moving the head slightly changes or eleminates the effect.

What could be a fact is that I use virtual desktop. Maybe the streaming codec is the culprit?

I have the same using a pimax crystal.

It’s hard to nail down exactly how to reproduce and things may be changing between builds. But it’s related to whatever part of the engine that handles clouds, mist, haze.

Indeed, difficult to spot because it’s only in specific cloud conditions. Attached it’s very clear (in v1.4.12.0) with Pimax Crystal.

Weird, does this appear outside of the windshield or only inside the plane through the glass?

Inside and outside

I have the same issue with HP Reverb G2.

I have the same, but it’s not actually limited to clouds - it seems to me to be a scene metering discrepancy and it can be seen to varying degrees in lots of conditions.

Particularly notable in cloud, overcast days and flying over open water where the water surface will have clearly different brightness.

Perhaps could be to do with the auto exposure MSFS is doing? It’s then basing the exposure off two very different scenes for the small and large view.

I wonder if this may be auto exposure related, as foveated area covers smaller area for which the exposure may be set differently.

You don’t even need to be in the clouds to see this problem. I had this problem the other day when the sky was pretty much filled with darkish clouds and I was flying below the cloud layer.
