Quality of Bing Ground imagery?

I changed from dlss to TAA and everything looked much better. I’m not using DLSS because of the ground looks worse. I’m not 100% sure this is what causes it for you here but it may be worth a try to test if it helps.

This has nothing to do with graphics settings. We’re not talking about building detail; we’re talking about straight up mush on the ground as if the scenery isn’t downloading at all. I also don’t use or need DLSS. I have a 3090.

I also believe it’s server related but also the LOD setting seems to be reducing texture quality.

yes it does, i really wish they seperated this option from Terrain Level of Detail.

I made a wishlist topic for this as well quite a while back :

we’ll at least get some quality data streamed without a huge performance cost like TLOD.

Yeah last year I probably was using 300 GB of data a month on MSFS and this last month I only used 25 despite playing way more this year.

At this point I’d be willing to pay a few bucks of month for better server access. I get that it’s expensive and the user base isn’t growing but all the cool data and visuals are there being unused.

Yesterday there was an issue with slow loading on the start screen. Perhaps there are some azure issues, maintenance or upgrades going on.

I’d actually not mind a subscription service for MSFS. I know that’s probably not a popular opinion. But I don’t know how all infrastructure going in to something like this can hold a profit for the prices we pay.

Fine. Then lets hope Asobo fix the textures then. I know it was an issue last year when everyone had bad quality in textures on ground. It were a server issue. When we zoomed in on world map the textures when fully zoomed in were low detail. Also while we were flying it was also bad. Maybe same kind of issue?

Not a fan of a subscription for scenery considering we already had a good solution.
We’ve already paid the money requested by Microsobo for scenery at the quality depicted in all their launch materials and right now they’re failing to deliver.

Whatever the reason for the degradation of scenery I’m sure we’ll have it fixed.

I’d be more interested in an actual response from Asobo as to the reasons behind scenery quality. I struggle to believe they’d simply just slice the quality in half just to say it’s fixed!

Has anyone tested the map replacement mod using Bing maps to see if it is a scenery quality issue or bugs with the simulator that’s causing low rendering quality?

Flying around a place watching it unfold isn’t realistic and a viable option for a modern day flight simulator - doesn’t happen with other sims, so why this one?

Not sure you have that right as I’ve never had more than 50Mbps (my limit) and almost never get any degradation or bandwidth warnings except if I’m live paused for any length of time. Also I’m pretty sure that the scenery data we download is not tailored to our settings server side but is streamed as complete packages at full LOD. IMO the only time more speed might be needed is for widescreen and multimonitor setups but even then I’m doubtful. I’ll just add that when I’m sightseeing it’s mostly at 4k TAA, all ultra, LOD400 (I avoid big airports etc).

Vancouver Has Lost Photogrammetry Too !!! …as well as So Many Other Areas,…WTH is Going on ??? Why does the Asobo TEAM Keep Breaking things, Like FJB !!!

I’m pretty sure Vancouver is PG, check your data settings.

This is probably a network issue between your internet service provider and Microsoft’s or Asobo’s content delivery network (CDN) for the data downloads. These problems are notoriously difficult to diagnose and are specific to the network topology involved, unfortunately; but note that other people may have perfect performance while you see problems, and vice versa.

I’m probably going to jinx it by saying this, but it seems to be much better today. Let’s see how it holds up…

Probably would help to know where people are physically located that are having these issues.

My guess is the issues are specific to regional data centers.

There’s one in TX very close to me. Being in close proximity to the data center isn’t helping.

Sadly it’s just not great looking. Never has been. I created a Photogrammetry bug in September 2020 and it’s in the top 3 bugs and hasn’t been resolved since.

Re: general terrain in the sim, it’s okay. Some areas are way better looking than majority.

Sadly I’m facing photogrammetry issues, seems like the cities are under zombie attacks or post apocalyptic. Hope that Asobo improves aerial images, even having a stable and reliable 500mb connection, sometimes I notice the sim needs a fine tune to handle a great connection

PG has always had a shorter draw distance, imho. Trees pop in, buildings “appear”. I prefer PG on as it’s clearly more realistic, particularly in regard to city skylines… but find myself flying with it off, due to the limited draw distance.
