Quest 3 and MSFS - please make reports here

similar settings, and it works a dream. It really is very very good!

Good to hear!

I’am using it on the quest 2. Installing it was a bit of reading and trying, but I ame very pleased with the results. Job well done mbucchia. Probably I get a quest 3 and will test it comparing it with quest 2

I have a Reverb G2 but I’m trying to see if my Quest 3 is better for MSFS2020.

I have two big problems:

#1 After I click “Ready to Fly” I get this black world rendered with some squiggly wireframes and I can see the location icons.

I’m using link cable and OpenXR toolkit.
I set Oculus as the OpenXR runtime.
I updated my graphics card driver and updated OpenXR tool kit

What am I missing?

FYI, the best quality at the moment is actually achieved via Virtual Desktop (WiFi only) with the beta version on the OpenXR version for it (VDXR) which is integrated in it.

I have tested Link (orig. Meta Link cable), Airlink and VD and can confirm it.

Virtual Desktop can be bought on the Quest store.

I have bought the 3 only specifically for MSFS.

Edit: 7800X3D, 64 GB DDR5 RAM, 4090, WiFi 6E

Well, not for me.
I get the best quality/performance over link cable, i think it’s very hardware dependent what works best for you.
I am on 13900k, rtx 3080 and a not so super duper router, still tweaking my settings, and may give Vd another try whit a better router.
But compared to my Quest 2 this is another world…

I’ll give that a try but I would still wonder why it’s not working over link cable.

I saw a message saying you should opt out of the PTC to use the link cable. Is that the case?

BanKhokklan I have similar specs as you and have the same results (better performance in link cable, more fps). Love vdxr but just not quite getting better results but still trying.

@MowTin ,
For using Link cable, you need to check settings with Oculus Debug Tool - check youtube videos for settings. Tell us what the settings are now. Also, make sure that the Link cable “dashboard” looks steady and the “laser beam” from your hand controller moves freely before trying to connect to MSFS.
“C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusDebugTool.exe”

Note: For best performance with Virtual Desktop (wireless), the additional router (maybe wifi6e ) is crucial. The best part is now you don’t have to use SteamVR anymore since the VD streamer has support for OpenXR (mbucchia developed the option)

I have not tried your settings yet, but I have a question about your Virtual Desktop Streamer settings. You indicate that you use the AV1 encoder, but you use an RTX 3080. Are you sure about this setting?

In the end he uses HEVC as AV1 is for 4000 series, I think…

You’re right. I chose AV1 not knowing that this requires a RTX4xxx but it automaticly uses HEVC.

Got it. Thanks.

You’re running your Quest 3 at 72 Hz and have SSW disabled. I assume you don’t hit a steady 72 fps. What is your framerate like?

I like to fly fairly low and the motion when looking down from the side has to be smooth. I can achieve that with 72 Hz and SSW enabled, but I have to settle for a fairly low resolution or use DLSS to consistently hit even 36 fps. Anyway, as soon as time allows, I’ll try (some of) your settings and see where I end up.

Last night I tried the new Reborn FSR 500 and suffered a big problem. I use the quest 3 through VD and steam VR. My setup is Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 3060ti and 32gb.

Every 10 minutes or so, the Quest 3 would completely lock up. Fixed view with screen door effect. I could see on my PC screen that FS2020 was still working in VR and was responding to my head movement. Nothing would affect the locked visuals in the headset except restarting the headset. After a restart and restarting VD, everything would work normally for another 10 minutes then repeat of above.

Happened about six times in the hour or so of flight.

I really dont know what to do next. Any suggestions?

Just to add, I have had several successful, complete flights with the identical setup as above and I was using a different aircraft. Just flight Piper Warrior and Cessna 152. Flights approx. one hour with no lockups or problems experienced. Is the new plane the issue? or is it because the FSR 500 is so demanding on the PC/headset?

Actually I fly most of the time VFR in Papua NG and get butter smooth 45-50 FPS with these settings. In dense sceneries like my homebase EDDF with AI traffic and stuff it can drop to 25 fps.

I removed everything from my community folder and restarted the PC and did a flight with the FSR500 and everything went perfectly.

I have over 95gb of stuff in community folder and now I have the painstaking job of re-introducing items to see if or when the problem returns. Doh!

Hi,
after trying out a G2 last year for a few weeks now I got a quest 3.
I‘m running on a RTX2060 super which results in pretty low details, the framerates between 20 and 35 are not the primary concerne.
Which RTX range is required for a decent FS experience?
Any hint will be appreciated

Thomas

Thomas, I made the jump from a 2080ti to 3080 a while back and the performance boost and quality was well worth the hit to my wallet. Problem is, after about a year or use, now I want a RTX 4000 series gpu and wish I had extended my price range to get something a little better.

After much reluctance, and after waiting for the official VDXR release, I finally did the work to set up my new Quest 3.

Totally shocked! I find this superior to the G2 in almost every way. The colors are a bit different and will take a little getting used to, and the sound is not as full and rich, but the focus and clarity, and even the framerate, are so much better! I found myself turning up the graphics sliders and switching to Ultra on almost everything. And no annoying cord!
Why did I wait so long?

I’m on a RTX 3080ti and a Ryzen 7800x3d cpu.
