Hi, just replaced my reverb g2 with Quest 3.
Everybody is advising to use Virtual Desktop.
But were do I need to buy it - Meta store or Steam?
My msfs2024 is bought in Steam if it matters.
Also, if someone can refer me to a setup guide or something on how set the Virtual Desktop for MSFS2024 that would be greatly appreciated.
Virtual Desktop is always a good option if you have the recommended wireless PCVR setup (1gig router ethernet wired to your PC with dedicated 5Ghz wifi close by to your router, preferably in same room). Air Link can also work very well with this wireless setup.
I still get a bit better results (better distance clarity and lower latency) using an official meta link cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 gen2 type-c port at 650mbps ecoding bitrate. Like everything PCVR, your results will depend a lot on your PC specs and settings.
I did an overview of my Link (and Air Link) settings earlier this year and these continue to work well with msfs2020 and msfs2024. Personally, if you don’t already have either msfs version, I’d suggest just buying msfs2020 for now since it’s a lot more stable, and it’s on sale on Steam right now.
Depending on your specific home setup, a dedicated router might not be necessary. I have a single Wifi 6E router that serves the whole house, yet it sits about 5ft from my head and my Q3 is the only device that uses the 6GHz connection.
Maybe take a look at the Virtual Desktop Discord Channel, as there are some really helpful people on there, who I’m sure will be happy to help with any technical questions you might have.
I am tied to sky router hence nervous . Link speed shows 866/866 . Which looks good to me but have heard sky mesh tech do no play well. Do not want to purchase VD unless it works. Have a good quality link cable to try first with a dedicated USB C socket . Then will try with airlink . Suspect it will not work . Receiving quest 3 friday .Could I use a wi-fi USB 6e dongle and create a hotspot . Any recommendations .
Check out the VD discord, as those two questions, namely the pros and cons of mesh networks and dongles are frequently asked questions. You would be getting the answer from the horse’s mouth as it were.
I have question running Q3 and Virtual Desktop I7 32g ram and RTX 3090.
What settings would you guys recommend for smooth performance I tried ultra but looked really bad so now I thinking about starting VD in high or medium.
I recommend you start off with your Link cable. It’s pretty easy to setup and I get great results using it with both my Q3 and QPro. Your 866 link speed indicates that your router is an older wifi5. Newer wifi6 (not necessarily 6e) tend to perform better. I changed out my old wifi5 router +1 years ago and it made a big difference with both Air Link and Virtual Desktop.
For Link settings I suggest you refer to the settings I posted earlier this year and maybe mod these to suit your PC specs (always a good idea to include this btw). Like everything VR, setup and settings make a big difference. Good luck mate and cheers.
ok so maybe start low on PC game settings then low on VR Settings then VD is confusing because it says 3090 ultra is recommended resolution would you recommend medium, high for Virtual Desktop Streaming Resolution?
